MAC Peacocky: Kissable Lipcolour Review, Photos, Swatches, Part 3

MAC Kissable Lipcolour ($18.00 for 0.17 oz.) are a new, medium-coverage lip product that is designed to give you the “comfort of a lipstick” with the “shiny finish of a lipgloss.” It’s supposed to be a lightweight, highly emollient formula with creamy color. It is also touted as being feather-resistant and wearing “for hours.” This includes these four: Super (muted neutral brown), Temper Tantra (mid-tone reddish brown), Vanity Fair (mid-tone blue pink), and Woo Me (light pinky nude).

  • Super is a medium beige nude with opaque color coverage. It is slightly lighter than Korres #30. It is pinker than Freckletone lipstick, darker than Cherish lipstick.
  • Temper Tantra is a red-tinged beige brown with nearly opaque color coverage. It is a little less coral than Korres #25. It seems like a more orange Cosmo.
  • Vanity Fair is a cool-toned, blue-based pink. It is similar to Viva Glam Gaga lipstick (less so the gloss), Saint Germain, Snob, Pink Friday, etc. I found it rather streaky on lips (the worst of the bunch) and difficult to apply evenly.
  • Woo Me is a pale peach with very subtle micro-shimmer. Like the other shades in the launch, it does suffer from streakiness, but it applies more evenly than Vanity Fair. It is nearly opaque. It is lighter than Cherish lipstick, peachier than Hue.

Kissable Lipcolour is vanilla-scented and comes in a long, skinny tube (they are the same as the Dare to Wear Lipglasses), but they have a good amount of product in them (0.17 oz.). It has a thin-to-medium, non-sticky consistency that feels creamy, lightweight, and a lot like a liquid lipstick. I didn’t experience any feathering after wearing one of the darker shades for the past five hours, though I am not prone to lip color bleeding.

I’ve been wearing Scandelicious since noon (five now), and it’s still hanging on–and I’ve had lunch and a drink since. There was some color transfer on my cup, but it seemed less than a normal lipstick. Some of the shininess has disappeared, but it doesn’t read flat, matte, or dry–rather it transitions to a satin finish. I would say it started at 90% opaque color and five hours later is at 75% (again, with eating and drinking!). My lips do not feel parched at all–they actually feel quite comfortable! It feels and wears more like a lipstick than a gloss, especially after an hour or so.

I have found that the lighter shades tend to gather in lip lines or show some streaking, but the medium to darker shades seem to apply better and smoother. These reminded me of Korres’ Liquid Lipstick, though these seem like a thinner, less watery formula (Kissable Lipcolour almost seems gel-like). They are also thinner and have a creamier finish as compared to Chanel Rouge Allure Laques (which also have more shimmer), but they are a good alternative that is more affordable.

I am disappointed to see such a high price tag, as it just seems to be yet one more sign that MAC prices will soon be in line with other high-end brands. Unlike the Mega Metal Eyeshadows, you do not get more product than you would in a regular lipgloss (e.g. Lipglass). Though in the interest of providing a fuller picture, the quantity and price are in-line with comparable brands like Benefit, Stila, and Urban Decay; not exactly comforting, I’m sure!

MAC Peacocky launches on January 6th, 2011 in-stores across North America, January 2011 for international. The approximate launch date for online is January 4th but may not be exact. It features 15 Mega Metal Eyeshadows ($19.50 each) and 12 Kissable Lipcolours ($18.00 each). All products are limited edition.

  • Product: 27/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

FINAL THOUGHTS: I think the medium to darker shades are very nice, but the lighter shades a little less so (think 26/30). So far, the wear seems to be true to their “hours” claim (my average is three hours or so for gloss, four hours for lipstick). The colors definitely are on the opaque side with none really on the sheer side.

I’m very much liking Temper Tantra on you. I can see now that Vanity Fair or Woo Me would be so wrong on me – thank you for helping me save my money towards the eyeshadows.

I have no idea why MAC loves these horrible pale blue-based pinks that make everyone look awful 😛 I’ve never seen that color look flattering on anyone.

Jennifer Avatar

I’m an NW15 (with extreme blue undertones), blue eyed and blonde so those pale blue-based pinks are actually quite flattering on me:) I know they are hard to wear for a lot of people but it’s just as hard for someone with my colouring to wear nudes like Super-I just look like I’m ill! I’ll definitely be getting Vanity Fair as well as Scandelicious and Flaunting It! Thanks for the swatches, Christine. Happy New Year!

Heli Avatar

I’m NC15, blue-eyed and a redhead so I should be all over warm shades but my undertones and pigmented lip color make pale blue-based pinks, blue-based reds, purples and such look very flattering on me.

I love Vanity Fair, Scandelicious and Flaunting It too! Will try Woo Me and see if it can cover my natural lip shade.

Brittany Avatar

I agree. I’m an NW15 as well with brown hair and green eyes. Pink Friday looks great on me (I’m always getting compliments when I wear it). I’ll definitely be looking forward to Vanity Fair.

Sophie Avatar

Wow, I’m also a green-eyed brunette who looks good in blue pinks! I’m very interested in Vanity Fair, I might actually get that one! 🙂

Adelita Avatar

Ditto!!!

I’m eyeing on Super & Love Peck, but now I think I’m gonna pick Temper Tantra instead. I think Love Peck is too sheer (I’m afraid it’ll gave me uneven lip color) and Super probably gonna washed me out.

Thanks for your effort Christine, I can save my money for something else, you’re a big help! 🙂

Thank you for all your lovely work, Christine! Though I am disappointed to read that:

“Though in the interest of providing a fuller picture, the quantity and price are in-line with comparable brands like Benefit, Stila, and Urban Decay[.]”

Especially when I’ve just discovered MAC products! Guess I should stock up on the permanent shades I like while they’re still priced reasonably.

Its funny, mac is so much more expensive in Europe. A lipstick is 17.50E which equates to about $23. Urban decay and benefit are about the same price as MAC here. I think our prices will go up as well though, keeping the same price differential.

Polly Avatar

Same here! a Mac lippie is 750 THB = 25 USD and will be higher

Some brand even double the price.

Drugstore lipstick is 10+ USD

*sad story* T^T

Anyway, I got some fav out of the bunch, they’re So Vain, Super, Temper Tantra, and Flaunting It. I may check out just one of them…

Thank you for reviewing, Christine! :]

I cannot believe you are “working” on New Year’s Eve! Even though this may be a hobby for you, I know it still takes alot of time to produce these reviews for your blog. Thank you for all your hard work!

arianne Avatar

OMG this is bad news for my wallet!! I’m very excited about this Kissable collection since I found most of my MAC lipsticks drying, even the lustres. Loving Strut your Stuff and Super and can’t wait to see how Love Peck translates to lips!

Natalie Avatar

I’m liking flaunt it so far……I never can REALLY tell until I try each of them on in the store.

Christine you have the most supple, beautiful lips I have EVER seen!!!
You need to share with me your secret…..

Christine Avatar

Thanks Christine for all your hard work swatching these for us! It really makes a difference when you can see the colours on someone as opposed to just in the pan or tube. Love mnay of the shadows, more then I expected now that I have seen them swatched, on the flip side I saw lip colours that I loved i the tube but once I saw them on lips, not so much. It helps that we have similar colouring and the same colour eyes it makes it very easy for me to decide what would be worth buing and what isnt so much. Thanks again for your awesome site!!

RiZZiE aka Lip Gloss Lover Avatar

Lovely post!

I like being on the safe side by not wearing dark, opaque shades of lip gloss, but these sound fine! Also, the shades aren’t all that unique, it would be very easy to find dupes instead of purchasing these for $18! Not as excited about these as I was about the Superglass range. And I sure hope MAC does not elevate its product prices any further, or they’ll soon be known as a high-end brand, which does NOT go with the company’s image!

Thanks for such a wonderful, informative post! I’ll be waiting for your dupes post! 🙂

RiZZiE xoxo

I think this lasts longer on you. I have been testing Temper Tantra and I’ll barely get 2 hours wear time on me. I’ll have to think twice about picking up another shade. I do like the way it feels on me.

Niki Avatar

I’ll definitely be grabbing enchantee and woo me.. they look like they’ll be the perfect compliment to snob to replace my viva glam VI SE lipglass that is coming dangerously close to empty.

Shawndra Avatar

I’m always reaching 4 da pink ones?! Will b trying Vanity Fair. Thnks, Christine 4 ur hard work. BTW, can u tell me what ur wearing on ur eyes. They look awesome.

Shannyn Avatar

So disappointed in Vanity Fair. It look so pretty in the tube but the colour it swatches as would look really bad on me 🙁 None of these are calling to me, except maybe exxhibitionist…

Heli Avatar

Do you think Vanity Fair is close to Tickle Me Pink ccb?

It does look a little darker and cooler on you but I wonder if I could tell the difference on my pigmented lips. Usually all the pinks turn a little cooler on my lips. So sad about the streakiness of Vanity Fair. You didn’t have any difficulties with Tickle Me Pink, did you?

Liz Avatar

Hi Christine!
I was wondering if you knew whether these kissable lipcolours will be permanent? I realize these colors wont be but will they continue to release this type of gloss? I own about 4 of these am seriously in love. I’d hate to see them go!

Christina Avatar

The colours on this page are super wearable, but as you say – they look super streaky too!! Hmmm..
thank you for all the work, Christine!

ak Avatar

I was almost going to buy Super but after the three Yash lipsticks I bought I thout that maybe I should leave it alone, I dunno LOL But I forgot all about Temper Tantra so I fort to try it on, darn! I may go back just to look at it!
