YSL Pink Bass & Gold Track Rouge Volupte Rock'N Shine Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Pink Bass (10)
YSL Pink Bass (10) Rouge Volupte Rock’N Shine Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) is muted, medium-dark pink with moderate, warm undertones and a luminous sheen with a very faint amount of pearl. The texture was smooth, balm-like–emollient but thin and lightweight–that glided easily across my lips but didn’t settle into my lip lines, thankfully.
It had medium to semi-opaque, buildable coverage that stayed on well for three and a half hours. It was lightly hydrating, but I definitely would have liked to have it lived up to its “deeply hydrating” claim as it had a shorter wear time.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.12 oz. - $316.67 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "intense colour" paired with a "high-shine effect" that is hydrating.
The formula is supposed to have "medium coverage" with a "lipstick-meets-balm" that is "deeply hydrating" and offers a "glossy" finish. They offer medium to semi-opaque coverage--slightly buildable at times--with a glossy, luminous finish that made my lips look smoother and plumper. The impressive part is that despite the texture being emollient and balm-like, most shades didn't settle into my lip lines noticeably and applied evenly.
It had a "melting" feel when applied, so I recommend being more conscious of how much one's applying to avoid over-applying. The formula felt lightweight and was lightly hydrating (but not "deeply hydrating") with shorter wear times; three hours for lighter shades and four to five hours for deeper shades.
They had a sweet, fruity scent but no discernible taste.

Pink Bass (10)
LELimited Edition. $38.00.
Gold Track (15)
YSL Gold Track (15) Rouge Volupte Rock’N Shine Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light-medium gold with moderate, warm undertones and flecks of finer pearl and larger micro-sparkle throughout. It seemed to have a more translucent base, so the effect was semi-sheer at best, and though it seemed translucent, it darkened my natural lip color and made it appear warmer overall.
The impact would be minimized for someone with more natural pigmentation in their lips, though. The lipstick had an emollient, balm-like feel that glided comfortably across my lips, but it wasn’t too slippery and smoothed out some of my lip lines. It wore well for two and a half hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

OK, Pink Bass is actually really, really pretty. I still love the little stars in the center. I’m not in a position to splurge, though.
Rachel, I “splurged” to treat myself and bought one of the YSL lipstick in oil lipsticks after seeing it here at Temptalia and falling in love with the colour (there were several that I really liked from a colour POV). It was a really spendy splurge and, to be honest, totally NOT worth it. The Sephora Rouge Lacquer lipsticks are very similar and cost a fraction of the YSL ones. I also find the YSL packaging more than a bit gaudy for my personal taste.
Thanks for letting me know, Mariella. I’m sorry your splurge wasn’t worth it. I hope you can still enjoy the product.
Oh, it’s a nice enough product (for the short time it lasts on my lips); it’s just that there are so many similar products at much better price points. Have you tried the Sephora Rouge Lacquer lipsticks? They’re very nice. I recently bought one of the “Lip Stories” as well – again, a nice product for a “sane” price.
Yes, I have three of the Rouge Lacquers, and I LOVE them. I like the Lip Stories line, too.
Pink Bass is one I’m looking at for Sephora Rouge sale in April. It is a beauty! Definitely getting it at some point.
Gold Track is interesting…I love the warming effect it has. Might make me look more alive!
I think YSL is getting too fancy for itself – the stars embossed in the lipsticks don’t really add to the shade. The colours are the same, it is just a gimmick to justify the price. The gold shade was a flop.
I agree, Genevieve!
Pretty and pricy.
I was really hoping that very shimmery looking star in the center would actually add some shimmer to the lipstick. Disappointed.
