Nude Pulse (404)

YSL Nude Pulse (404) Vinyl Cream Lip Stain ($36.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a medium, peachy coral with warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had medium coverage, which wasn’t buildable, and the color applied horrifically. It might have been one of the worst applications I’ve seen on myself in a long time, and the swatch shows my third attempt (because it was so bad that I felt like maybe I did not follow directions, that I needed to let it set, etc.). The product settled into every lip line, did not spread evenly, and the underlying stain was a deeper, more coral-red that, while pretty on its own, made the unevenness of the much lighter product color more noticeable. The lighter color and glossiness lasted for four to five hours before it was mostly the stain left behind, which stayed on well for another two hours or so. It was neither drying nor hydrating while worn.

Formula Overview

$36.00/0.18 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "full-coverage color" with "vinyl shine" in "just one stroke" and lasts for "10 hours." I bought seven shades to try, and I struggled applying all but two of those shades (Carmin Session and Rouge Vinyle) as they applied unevenly with noticeable streaking, which was only worsened if I tried to press my lips together to blend the product back out. I reapplied every single trouble-making shade three different times, trying less and more product as we ll as waiting 10 minutes for it to set/self-level (newsflash: they didn't).

The formula had semi-opaque to opaque coverage, but the color just did not seem to go on evenly for most shades I tried. The consistency felt more water-like when initially applied, as it was thin with a lot of movement, but it hugged lips more within 30 seconds of application and had a moderate shine and some tackiness. They were longer-wearing (six to eight hours, plus a very strong stain) and were comfortable to wear (non-drying to lightly hydrating). The formula had a sweet, floral scent but no discernible taste.

Carmin Session (407)

YSL Carmin Session (407) Vinyl Cream Lip Stain ($36.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a medium plum with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had good color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips while also smoothing out my lip lines. The texture felt more watery initially but then seemed to thicken slightly and hug my lips (but not in an uncomfortable way). It wore well for six and a half hours but left a moderate stain that lingered and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Ye gads, Nude Pulse has to be one of worst lipsticks /glosses/ whatever that I’ve ever seen! That’s saying a lot, considering I’ve been wearing makeup for over 4 decades. How this made it past R&D is unfathomable.

As for Carmin Session, I’m thinking I will get PMG Beautiful Creature instead. I mean, this does look quite pretty, but I think PMG has a nicer formula.

Oh yes!! About Nude Pulse! I bought this shade in Sephora a few weeks ago, & it was terrible, And, also gummy on me. The worst lip product I have tried so far. I promptly returned it. I love the way the 2nd one looks on you. Very pretty.

These look kinda like those Revlon Colorstay Moisture lip stains (in the rectangular tubes)?
Those were goopy and uneven. But I always got them to work by blotting them down a bunch. I actually quite liked them, but it seems like everyone always tried to apply them straight on, all gloopy!
