YSL Holiday 2017 Rouge Pur Couture Mini Lipstick Set Review, Photos, Swatches
Holiday 2017
YSL Holiday 2017 Rouge Pur Couture Mini Lipstick Set ($50.00 for 0.12 oz.) contains four shades of bright, bold lipsticks. The set is–you guessed it!–sold out online from what I can tell, but each shade is available individually, so hopefully, there’s still value to the review and swatches!
The formula is supposed to have “rich color with intense hydration … in just one stroke.” The thing to know about this formula is that it is quite emollient and has a lot of slip; the formula almost applies itself as it glides quickly across the lips, though I sometimes found it too emollient and too slippery. That extra slip meant that some shades weren’t as pigmented as anticipated or that color gathered in my lip lines. The wear ranged from four to six hours on average. I found the formula was usually on the hydrating side. They have a sweet, fruity scent that I’d describe as subtle but noticeable.
Value
A full-sized Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick retails for $37.00 and contains 0.13 oz. or costs $284.62/oz. The set contains $34.15 worth of product, so it is a poor value from a quantity standpoint, though some may prefer getting 0.03 oz. in quantity but getting four shades. I think if the set contained 0.05 oz. per shade or was priced at $38 or $42, it would be more worthwhile.

Fuchsia (19)
Fuchsia (19) is a rich, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a natural sheen. It had good pigmentation, though it wasn’t quite opaque, that applied evenly without streaking. It was very emollient and glided across the lips easily. There was a small amount of product that gathered in my deeper lip lines, but the richness of the color and shine of the finish made it unnoticeable from a normal viewing distance. This shade wore well for five and a half hours, left a stain behind, and was lightly moisturizing.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.13 oz. - $292.31 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "rich color with intense hydration ... in just one stroke." The lipstick has moderate slip--some shades are fairly emollient and can feel slippery during wear, while many are creamy but adhere well enough.
I've found that more mid-tone and deeper shades have better applications with smoother, more forgiving color that was semi-opaque or higher in coverage. Some of the lighter and the very deepest shades were more prone to settling into lip lines or yielding more medium to semi-opaque coverage.
The wear ranged from four to six hours on average. I found the formula was usually on the hydrating side. There was a sweet, floral scent with a very subtle taste, though I felt like it sometimes gave me a taste and other times, I didn't notice anything.

Le Orange (13)
Le Orange (13) is a vibrant, medium orange with warm undertones and a cream finish. The color payoff was good, though it never built up to full coverage as the texture was rather emollient and had noticeable slip, so it just didn’t layer that well for greater coverage. The lipstick applied evenly and smoothly across the lips with only a slight amount of product settling into my lip lines. It lasted for five hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Le Orange (13)
PiPPermanent in Palette. $38.00.
Le Rouge (1)
Le Rouge (1) is a medium red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied evenly across the lips and never tugged. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and not too slippery–definitely less emollient compared to the other shades in the set–which helped it apply evenly and last longer (six hours). The formula felt moisturizing while worn.

Le Rouge (1)
PiPPermanent in Palette. $38.00.
Rouge Rose (52)
Rouge Rose (52) is a bright, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a cream finish. The color payoff was intense–this was the most opaque shade in the set–and the texture felt creamier, slightly thicker compared to the other shades as well. It applied without tugging but had slight streaks along the edges of my lips, though it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The color stayed on well for four and a half hours but was moisturizing to wear.

This is a perfect brights lipstick wardrobe.
Finally a lipstick set where I can wear all of the shades (this is not often the case). Even Le Orange (L’Orange?) is a red that I think I could carry off.
These lipstick shades would be found in most people’s lippie bag, so to have them all in one set is very Christmas friendly. Having a mini set is very handy.
I like the color selection!
