Wild Greens

Urban Decay Wild Greens Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.492 oz.) is a new eyeshadow palette that includes a mix of green, brown, and coral. It contained six matte eyeshadows, five shimmer eyeshadows, and one satin eyeshadow. It was not the worst of Urban Decay, which is an odd compliment to give; the palette was usable, and with primer, workable. The shimmers tended to be drier and stiffer, while the mattes were somewhat powdery but often pigmented or buildable and blendable.

Chill

Chill is a light, yellowy peach with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had a soft, lightly powdery texture with semi-opaque coverage that applied evenly to bare skin. It lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.06 oz. - $316.67 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "high-pigment" with "ultra-smooth color payoff with maximum blendability" while being long-wearing. The brand is confusing, as they claim "up to 12 hours."

The majority of the shades I tested were pigmented--semi-opaque to opaque--with the matte finish having the most variance. The lighter matte shades tended to be thinner, more powdery, and sheerer as a result of those texture differences. The more satin-to-pearl shimmer shades tended to be thinner, too, and they sometimes applied more unevenly or had to be built up. The higher-sheen shimmer shades tended to be pigmented, lightly creamy, and blendable with good adhesion.

They wore between eight and nine hours on average, which is solid wear time but similar to a lot of other powder eyeshadows for me, so it wasn't extra long-wearing in context.

In comparison to the last iteration of the brand's eyeshadow formula, it did not feel vastly different. The mattes seemed a little thinner and a touch more powdery, while the shimmers were a touch thicker on average with some of the more pearl-like finishes having weaker coverage and felt too firmly-pressed into the pan and looked thinner on, so they weren't as flattering to wear.

Lo-fi

Lo-fi is a medium-dark peachy coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was moderately powdery, thin, and prone to fallout, though I didn’t have too much of a struggle getting opaque pigmentation out of it. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Kickback

Kickback is a medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It seemed to have a grayer or ashy base as it looked somewhat gray when applied and blended out. The texture was moderately powdery and prone to fallout, though it had opaque coverage. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Fuzz

Fuzz is a medium copper base with flecks of green-to-gold shifting sparkle. The texture was more loosely-pressed, so there was light fallout when I worked with it. I’d recommend using a fingertip or a dampened brush to get more even, opaque coverage from this shade. It lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Oh my word – I just despair about UD – the heroes of the palette were meant to be the green shades, but they were the worst performing and what the brand has done to Stash – a genuinely good olive shade that was in Vice 2 is now awful.
It probably isn’ the worst that UD has put out lately, but it isn’t great either. Far too many bland orangey shades for me.

Nancy T Avatar

If *only* Prickly and Twist had been better, I would be over the moon happy and feeling better about the course that Urban Decay seems to be determined to stay on! I honestly don’t know how Tara from Tarababyz got such a gorgeous look from those two iffy looking shades, but somehow, she did? I’m guessing it could be the CoverGirl concealer that she uses has just enough stickiness to it, I don’t know?
I do have Huda Emerald, CP The Child, and Viseart Absinthe, so… 🤔

Christina D. Avatar

Who would have ever guessed that a B rating is an improvement for recent UD releases? An half compliment indeed, akin to “you look good for your age”.

AJ Avatar

So in a “green” palette that barely has any actual green shades, the two worst performing shades are two of the greenish ones?

What even was the point of making this palette? Most of the colors are pretty dupable and the color scheme isn’t exciting and there’s not nearly enough green. I’m still mad.

Mariella Avatar

Even if this had an A+ rating, it wouldn’t be for me….all those unflattering (for me) orange tones in a palette that really should be replete with breathtaking GREEN shades. But I just feel an overall sadness about how UD really seems to have lost its way!

If you want greens, hit up Sydney Grace. And while you’re there, pick up Christine’s palettes. You will be beyond all set. It’s only nostalgia that makes me read about UD. I’m no longer even rooting for them to make a comeback.
