Relish

Urban Decay Relish Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a dark red with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff paired with a smooth, velvety consistency that was very blendable and easy to work with. It seemed a touch thinner than some of Urban Decay’s best matte eyeshadows, but it did not sheer out too easily, so it did not cause any problems for me. This shade started to fade after eight hours of wear.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.05 oz. - $380.00 Per Ounce

The formula is typically described as "high-pigment" that "stays on your lids" and goes on "seamlessly." Their permanent range has a lot of fantastic shades in it, and many of them are pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Some of their matte are real workhorse kind of shades with soft, smooth, silky, and blendable textures, while their shimmers and pearly shades are very rich in payoff and apply beautifully to the lid. They wear between seven and nine hours on me, depending on the shade and finish.

Spike

Urban Decay Spike Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a dark orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had intense pigmentation with a very smooth, velvety texture that wasn’t too soft or too firm in the pan. I had no issues with fallout, but the eyeshadow was still perfectly blendable on the skin along the edges. It applied evenly and adhered for a solid eight hours to bare skin.

Punk

Urban Decay Punk Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a subdued, plummy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had decent pigmentation, though it took two to three layers for opaque coverage. The consistency was finely-milled, thinner, and somewhat dusty to work with, which resulted in some fallout during application. It blended out without too much work, and it wore well for eight hours on me. This shade is exclusive to Urban Decay’s website, and it is a repromote.

Serious

Urban Decay Serious Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a dark gray with neutral undertones and a subtle, satin shimmer. The texture was rather dusty, which made the eyeshadow prone to sheering out and applying unevenly to bare skin. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage. I had the best luck using it to soften the edges of an even darker eyeshadow (like a black eyeshadow) than on its own, as it needed primer to go on evenly. This shade started to fade after seven hours on me. This shade is exclusive to Urban Decay’s website, and it is a repromote.

Narcotic

Urban Decay Narcotic Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a soft, light-medium blue with a matte finish. While it had a soft, silky texture that felt finely-milled, there was a lot of powderiness and excess product kicked up in the pan. It did not apply well to bare lids or even over the brand’s own eyeshadow primer: it was patchy, uneven, and looked almost dry on. The color started to fade after six and a hours on me. This shade is exclusive to Urban Decay’s website, and it is a repromote.

Chaos

Urban Decay Chaos Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark cobalt blue with cool undertones and a barely-there satin shimmer. The finish looked and performed like a matte eyeshadow, as the shimmer really wasn’t noticeable in practice. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage, while the texture seemed to be soft, thin, and a bit dusty (I dumped all the broken pieces out and used what remained intact in the pan–poor Chaos arrived in pieces!). The eyeshadow was fairly blendable, but be prepared for a little extra work to buff and blend it out. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably. This shade is exclusive to Urban Decay’s website, and it is a repromote.

Love the eye look Christine.. do you which one is better , the sugarpill ‘s matte red and orange eyeshadow or urban decay’s relish and spike…?? UD is costlier than sugarpill , that’s why I ask.

Katherine T. Avatar

As soon as Ulta sent me the 20% coupon that was good for 1 day only, I pounced on Relish, should be coming next week, so thanks so much for the sneak peek!! I didn’t even wait for the review, the swatch said it all 🙂

Bonnie Avatar

I’m so p.o.’d at myself for not grabbing Relish and Spike when I had that 1 day Ulta 20% off code. I was so close to adding them but I’ve been burned so many times by products that swatch beautifully, I jump the gun and buy whatever only for it to be a surprise poor rater. If you rate it bad I know I won’t like it because it’s rare for me to disagree with you. This was a UD heavy order too. I know I ordered Fireball and Lounge because I gave mine to my little sister. She deserves it, she’s pretty awesome! I also ordered Fireball lipstick from the nocturnal collection and after watching Phyrra’s video on nude lipstick for pale girls I finally added on Violate. OH and I reupped on lipliners in Manic, rush, and Liar. That was JUST THE UD PORTION of the haul lol I’ve been so good but I went HAM with that code! Oh well, as my bloated monster of a collection can attest there will always be another sale!

Katherine T. Avatar

Will be lot of stuff to report at FHFF when your order comes in 🙂 Good thing Relish is permanent, so yes, there’s always another sale !

V Avatar

Hi Christine, did you happen to pick up the Colourpop pressed shadows? I’m curious how Stay Golden in their line would compare to UD Relish before I decide on either of them! Also did you pick up Shellshock in the new UD releases?

Christine Avatar

Hi V,

I posted a sneak peek of the ColourPop Pressed Shadows a week or two ago. All the dupes I could think of are posted above — if you click “view all dupes,” you’ll see the full list, which shows Stay Golden at the end of the list.

Sorry, I don’t have Shellshock!

xamyx Avatar

FINALLY a matte red from Urban Decay! It took, what, only 20+ years, LOL! Oddly enough, it was my search for a matte red eyeshadow that lead me to check out UD in the first place… I will definitely be picking up Relish (although I have the MUFE, KvD, & tarte dupes-I can appreciate the subtle differences), Spike, & Thunderbird.

Brenda Peterson Avatar

Totally picking up Relish. That’s really unfortunate what happened to Chaos – I love using that color with the chaos eyeliner. Makes my blue green eyes look very blue. ?

AB Avatar

Spike is a definite for me, and Relish is a maybe. I’m also happy to see that in general, some of these performed pretty well given UD’s inconsistencies and misses over last months, which have been hard to watch.

tamara Avatar

even with a C level rating i thnk i will end up going for Narcotic that’s such beautiful shade with very little dupeability(how is that a word)

La Doshis Avatar

Hello! Pbi, these new UD eye shadows are WAYYYYY easier to depot than the old UD eye shadows (those are damn near impossible)
Since they have made them easier to pop out for the DIY UD palette, you push them out really quickly; then I use wire cutters to break away the plastic part around the pan and use a paring knife w rubbing alcohol to loosen the glue. There’s not a lot of glue on these so they pop up fairy easily 🙂
The old ones have A LOT of tough glue and are ridiculously hard to get out ??? even with the flat iron heat method I felt that the glue was never going to melt!

We try to approve comments within 24 hours (and reply to them within 72 hours) but can sometimes get behind and appreciate your patience! 🙂 If you have general feedback, product review requests, off-topic questions, or need technical support, please contact us directly. Thank you for your patience!
