Urban Decay Shortcut On the Run Mini Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Shortcut
Urban Decay Shortcut On the Run Mini Eyeshadow Palette ($25.00 for 0.16 oz.) includes eight eyeshadows in a more pink/rose-themed color combination. Four of the shades are repromotes, while four are new; one shade, Zone, shares a name of another shade released in the past but is a totally different color. The matte shades were more powdery, sometimes to the point where they sheered out (when I wasn’t going for that). Those who typically use eyeshadow primer, don’t mind more powdery, sheerer shades (or having to build color up), and like the color scheme may find this worth considering.

Sin
Sin is a pale champagne with warmer undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good color coverage with a fairly soft, blendable texture–it had a little more slip but wasn’t dense or cream-like, still a little powdery in the pan. This shade applied evenly to my lid and blended out without issue. It wore well for eight hours on me before it started to show signs of wear.

The formula is typically described as "high-pigment" that "stays on your lids" and goes on "seamlessly." Their permanent range has a lot of fantastic shades in it, and many of them are pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Some of their matte are real workhorse kind of shades with soft, smooth, silky, and blendable textures, while their shimmers and pearly shades are very rich in payoff and apply beautifully to the lid. They wear between seven and nine hours on me, depending on the shade and finish.

Laced
Laced is a pale mauve with subtle, warmer rosy undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation paired with a soft, powdery texture that needed to be used with a light touch to avoid a ton of kick up in the pan. The powder blended out fairly well on my skin, but there was a tendency for it to sheer out so it couldn’t be built up. It lasted well for seven hours before I noticed some fading.

Shortcut
Shortcut is a medium pink with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had medium pigmentation that was only buildable over a primer, as it was more powdery and prone to fallout and sheering out when I used it on bare skin. The eyeshadow was blendable and worked well to diffuse and help transition crease shades toward the brow bone as-is. It stayed on well for seven hours before fading noticeably on my skin.

Afterhours is a deep gray with cool undertones and a metallic sheen. It had rich color coverage that adhered evenly to my lid and blended out easily along the edges. Rendezvous
Rendezvous is a deep burgundy with warm, brown undertones and a matte finish, though there were random flecks of micro-glitter buried in it. It was richly pigmented, but the texture was quite powdery, which made it prone to fallout and sheering out when applied. What I noticed was that it looked much deeper in the pan than Back Alley but proved to look almost the same when applied next to it, so I struggled getting the depth I anticipated out of this shade in practice. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me before fading a bit.

Gash is a muted, medium-dark red with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The pigmentation was opaque in a single pass, which adhered fairly well to bare skin, though it seemed to look a bit more faded after a few minutes. Zone (Shortcut)
Zone (Shortcut) is a medium-dark copper with warm, rosy undertones and flecks of lighter pink sparkle. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly, but it had a drier, more loosely-pressed consistency and larger chunks of sparkle, so it applied significantly better with fingertips or using a dampened brush. This shade lasted well for seven and a half hours but had some fallout over time.

I think this is a round up of the most popular shades going at the moment. I liked the inclusion of Afterhours, a very dark grey/blackish shimmer as it adds an extra dimension to the palette and would look pretty as a contrast to the pinks.
I am telling myself I don’t need this, as I have most of these shades (either by UD or a close enough dupe), but I do like having them all in one small palette!
This one really did tempt me for a hot second. Had the quality been better, I could have used the small size of it as something to *literally* use on on the run. Then again, I do have Viseart Tryst. I suppose that’s close enough, huh?
What Gen said. Additionally, can we move on? I realize that many new users may not have these shades, but find this selection pretty redundant, for those with older/larger stashes. One thing I find very valuable in looking at new palette swatches, is the ability to refresh my memory of where a shade lives, e.g. which Vice palette has my existing dupe for shade x. The more you look at dupes, the more fixed in your mind the location in your stash the shade becomes. Looking at dupes is far more than just ruling in or out a purchase.
Unlike Nancy T, this didn’t tempt me at all – the colours (geez, I sound like a broken record) are just too red and pink for me and would make me look like I have an eye infection.
Amen! I’m getting tired of this color story :/
Me, too!
This one is my favorite of the 3 in terms of color, and is what I wanted Naked Cherry to be closer to. I personally can’t get enough red/burgundy shadows, and am so happy none of these pull too “orange”, which is quite common. I have very dark, nearly black eyes, and find most deeper shadows tend to be too overwhelming, but reds/burgundies give that “darkness” while still being vibrant. I haven’t actually tried this one on my eyes, yet, but plan to tomorrow.
I like the regular sized/formula Laced. That was the one that you rated as A+ in your April 2013 review. Looking at UD website, the ingredient list for the regular formula Laced is different from the one in this Shortcut palette. I think UD should rename any reformulated shades so the one in this Shortcut palette should be called something else. There may be some people that prefer that similar/close shades be called the same name from palette to palette but I think that if the performance of the shade is different, and especially when the ingredients have changed, then renaming is more honest and transparent.
I really like this palette, and I’m thinking of getting it instead of the pricier Cherry one. Thanks for the swatches!
I do like this — I like the compact size, and I’m into the pinks these days. But this runs a little dark for my fair tones, and I do have Viseart Nuance and Tryst as well as MAC Ruddy so I’m good for pinks and reds.
A year ago I would’ve been all over this. Now that everyone and her sister has put out one or more red/pink palettes, I’m not tempted at all. I can only wear so much pink around my eyes without looking ill (i.e., very little) and red is a definite no.
I really like the color story but have it in other incarnations. Sin has become the new Midnight Cowboy and Half Baked…why??
Pretty but I think I’ll pass due to the poor quality of a couple of the shades.
If the texture of the shades are of the same quality as those of the born to run palette, which I was very disappointed of, because on my opinion there was no sheer at all on the lids, I would skip. Many times eyeshadows do not behave on the lids as they do when you swatch them, so sometimes its risky to rely on reviews!
My reviews are based on wearing every shade on my lid/eye, not how they swatch, FYI.
