Urban Decay Retrograde 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner
Urban Decay Retrograde 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.07) is a blackened purple with lighter purple, pink, and blue shimmer. It had semi-opaque coverage in one stroke, which was buildable to opaque coverage if I applied a second layer after the first one had dried down. (Trying to improve coverage while it is drying just moves the product around and creates an uneven, streaky result!) Once dry, the eyeliner stayed in place for the ten hours I wore it for. Zoeva Mr. Marvelous (P, $7.50) is less shimmery (95% similar). Stila Purple Tang (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Tarina Tarantino Cute Robot (DC, $15.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Smashbox Nymph (P, $18.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Galactic 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.07) is a light-medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a fine, metallic shimmer-sheen finish. The consistency was fairly watery, which resulted in needing to shake the tube for half of a minute in order to mix everything together well enough to get semi-opaque coverage. It felt a bit clingy after it dried down, but it didn’t budge over a ten hour period. Sephora Strawberry Macaroon (DC, $10.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Feminine Edge (DC, $16.00) is darker (90% similar). ColourPop Raindrops (LE, $7.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). About Face Leave Me Breathless (P, $13.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (80% similar). ColourPop Crochet (LE, $7.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar). Urban Decay Street 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.07) is a deep, blackened teal with a satin sheen. It was nicely pigmented with opaque coverage in a single stroke. The consistency was thin, but it wasn’t as watery as other shades, so it was easier to work with and had better color payoff. This shade lasted for ten hours on me. Urban Decay Invasion (DC, $22.00)(95% similar). MAC Black Ivy (DC, $16.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). ColourPop Fast Lane (P, $7.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). ColourPop Fast Lane (P, $7.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Blacquer Emerald (P, $25.00) is lighter, warmer, less glossy (85% similar). Urban Decay Zodiac 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.07) is a medium-dark greenish-brown; it had a strong, dark brown base with lighter emerald green, olive green, and gold shimmer. The texture of the eyeliner was watery and thin, which resulted in streakier, sheerer coverage. I would recommend waiting for the initial layer to dry down, and then applying a second layer for better opacity. The eyeliner lasted for ten hours, though. Urban Decay Zodiac (LE, $22.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Chanel Khaki Intense (951) (LE, $34.00) is less shimmery, lighter, less glossy (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Nepturnt (LE, $20.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Swamped (P, $17.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). NARS Night Porter (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Stash (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). Sephora Go For a Ride (DC, $10.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). NARS Rue de Rivoli (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Mildew (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Devotion (P, $20.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA OVERVIEW | Urban Decay 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a water-resistant, long-wearing, “intensely pigmented” liquid liner with an ultra-precise (thin) applicator. There are cream shades and metallic shades; the cream ones have a shiny finish (so none dry matte), while the metallic ones have a more pearly sheen. They require 20-30 seconds worth of shaking, or else you’ll end up with a more watery, sheerer consistency that is hard to work with. If shaken for long enough, everything mixes and most shades are semi-opaque to opaque and thin without feeling watered down, but it is a very wet, thin formula that takes 15-30 seconds to dry down (depends on the shade–metallics dried faster for me, on the whole). Once it dries down, it does seem to shrink slightly and I can feel it cling to my skin a bit. The applicator is thin and flexible enough to maneuver around the curve of the lid. Something that was somewhat frustrating is that the formula is so thin and wet that I do get some splattering when I open shades as well as when I apply (like a dot or two randomly on face).
These remove pretty easily with just water and a light rub, but they don’t come off just rubbing with a dry fingertip at all, so removing those spots requires real makeup remover or a dampened brush/cotton swab. During removal, the eyeliner flakes off in small chunks. If I just sprayed the eyeliner with water and lightly dab or blot (or even just let the water evaporate), they didn’t smudge, fade, or run. I didn’t have any issues with the wear of them–they all went for a full 10-hours before I removed.

I don’t use liquid eyeliner, but I have to say that Street is STUNNING!
It is a bold shade!
Do you have any idea what, in the composition, would make Zodiac so inferior to Street? Is it the black versus ?clear? base? It is easy to conceptualize that any given product has the same base, and varies by pigment. Clearly, that’s not the case.
The formula is all over the place – some are more watery, some are less, some have more pigment, but I imagine the shimmer has something to do with it.
Street and Retrograde are gorgeous!
They are!
Street looks like a winner! Sad about Zodiac, would’ve looked amazing if they could get the formula right. What’s funny is that UD just came out with the Liquid Moondust Shadows – I stumbled across them at Sephora @ JCPenny yesterday, they were on the counter, not even on display yet. They are super metallic and glittery, kind of like the Armani Eye Tints but on steroids. I swatched 5 of them, and the pigmentation was really good and opaque, except for 1. I was thinking they were going to look way OTT on the lids, but would make a great eyeliner. It has a foam applicator, but I wonder if I can just use an eyeliner brush, dip it in there, and use it as an eyeliner. Hmmmm…….
Zodiac could look good over Street, LOL!
I like Gallactic, and also Fireball that was reviewed earlier. It is impressive to me too that UD has spotted rare shades; each of these have only one current dupe. The formula daunts me but I am going to check it out, as I like both colors so much.
They did a nice job picking colors, at least!
I wish these were more opaque, but the colors are so pretty, I could live with doing two layers. Galactic is so light, though, that I’m not sure about it.
I hear ya – wish they were richer in pigment overall!
Rachel, I suggest holding off on these UD Razor Sharp liners. They just launched the UD Moondust shadows in Liquid form, and I swatched 5 of them in Sephora yesterday, and 4 of them were pigmented and opaque. Not sure, but I think they can probably double as eye liners if you use an eyeliner brush. I did some googling, and the 8 shades are silver white, bronze gold, pastel pink, pinky red orange, purple, brown, bright teal, and green (Zodiac!) I heard they will sell for $22, same price as these razor sharp liners.
Thank you, Katherine! I’ll probably need to go to Sephora and check everything out and see which looks more promising. And read more reviews on both products.
I’m a little disappointed in the thin formula, except for Street, that looks amazing. Such a shame for the other colours because I love the colours!
I totally agree! 🙁
Zodiac is such a cool color; it’s too bad that one doesn’t perform well 🙁
Agreed!
I’m really liking these. I bought Street when they first released and I find myself reaching for it often. Can’t wait to pick up some additional colors!
Nice!
I’m sad that Zodiac performed poorly. It’s such a beautiful and unique colour, especially for an eyeliner!
I know! I wish it was better!
I really like the look of Street but, in all honesty, I can’t seem myself actually getting much use out of a product like this.
Street seems to be the fave from this batch!
They are lovely colours and if you are into precision eye liners, they would look great. The teal colour would be my favourite.
Street is a richer shade!
Street is up my alley, shade wise and the formula for this particular shade looks like it was done extremely well. Too bad that almost the entire shade range of these liners falls short of this one’s performance.
The formula is definitely better than many others in the range as far as pigmentation goes!
Street looks great! After discovering the MAC Lion Babe Liquidlast Liner I am just dying to get my hands on more colorful/metallic liquid liners.
Hopefully you can find some!
OMG, Retrograde and Street are gorgeous! I’m in love! Did you use any of these for a makeup look, Christine? Would love to see them “in action”.
No, I just tested these without eye makeup, sorry!
These all look really good. The one called Street is right up my alley!
I purchased Zodiac last week and have been loving it. It is thin and watery but I shake it and then hold it exposed to air for about 30 seconds and then apply and no trouble. I have only used on lower lash line and I am pretty pale so maybe showing up on me? Have received many complements. I love several of the colors and plan to pick up a few more. Maybe being wet they won’t dry out to fast!
All winners other than poor Zodiac!
Zodiac really “tickles my fancy.” Too bad it looks like a total pain to work with. Anything duochrome I want all over my face. ALL THE TIME.
That Street with my BiTE Kale is a must collaboration!
I love Street! Such a pity they seem to be all over the place with these liners. I really like the more unexpected colours a lot. I might get Retrograde as it looks amazing and then try to be patient waithng for it to dry completely befor applying a second layer. I must have Street, it’s stunning. I love the idea of Zodiac, but I’d be frustrated trying to use it and it would probably result in a frantic “take it all off!” moment for me, it’s an actual thing that happens, not often, but it’s very annoying when it does.
I’m kinda shocked UD let a product with such wildly divergent quality be released. Just my thinking, I’m probably wrong but there’s so many palettes gathering dust at a fraction of the original price I would think now would be the time to show up with their A game. Although they’ve released a lot of good stuff too, the highlighters make me swoon! I guess I just know the company is capable of better than watery liners that are a pain to use. Sure they will sell at first bc they are unique but I can’t imagine getting ready on the daily and wanting to mess with them. That’s probably just me being lazy though 😉
