Fireball

Urban Decay Fireball Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a soft, tangerine orange with iridescent pink pearl. It’s listed as a “Metallized” finish, but it seemed more like a Sheer Shimmer to me. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque, buildable coverage with a lightweight, thinner texture that had noticeable slip. The color gravitated towards my lip lines, as it seemed thinner and lacked some of the gel-like quality of other shades in the range to keep the color from settling. Of course, it’s a pretty shade on as it has a subtle pink-to-peach shift in person, but it might be better layered over other shades or used with a lip primer. This shade lasted for three hours and was hydrating.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is available in six finishes, which are primarily distinguished by level of sheen, shimmer content, and coverage. I didn't notice any scent or taste. Mega Mattes are the thinnest and have the most “cling” as they are drier and more matte (but most are semi-matte and not a totally flat matte) and can be drying, though they are longer-wearing.

Comfort Mattes are creamier, a little denser, with richer color payoff on average (they are the most pigmented out of the finishes), and have a satin finish that is fairly comfortable to wear, usually lightly hydrating, and longer-wearing.

Creams are usually softer and creamier, though not too soft (they don’t mush or break from the base easily), with some being tackier and stiffer in the tube until they warm up against the lips; they have good color payoff, are hydrating, and are comfortable to wear but have more typical wear (four to six hours–six hours for deeper/richer shades like a red).

Sheers and Sheer Shimmers have a more balm-like consistency that feels a little thinner but is wetter/more emollient than Mega Mattes, so ultimately, they feel quite different applied; they have sheerer coverage, though more semi-sheer to semi-opaque than very sheer, and have the shortest wear time at two to fours with light hydration.

Metallized is the most shimmery of the finishes, though some of the other finishes have shades that are actually as shimmery (to me), but the Metallized formula has a thinner, more emollient base that isn’t as dense or as cream-like as the Creams; they feel more like the Sheers but a bit heavier and more pigmented (but seem to run semi-opaque to opaque, not always fully opaque) with average wear (four to five hours), light hydration.

Lawbreaker

Urban Decay Lawbreaker Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a muted, plummy brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a natural sheen. It had semi-sheer, buildable coverage–which was in sync with its Sheer finish descriptor–that applied evenly and smoothly. The lipstick had a lightly creamy, balm-like texture that was easy to apply to the lips and comforable to wear over the four hours it lasted. The formula felt hydrating on my lips.

Backstab

Urban Decay Backstab Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a rich, reddish-berry with cool, pink tones and violet and ruby red pearl. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a creamy, moderately emollient texture that glided across the lips without skipping but does feel more slippery while worn. If you’re someone who has issues with products feathering, this might be a shade to wear with a lip primer or lip liner, though I did not personally experience feathering. There was a smidgen of color that sat in my lip lines, but it did not appear as noticeable due to the glossier finish. This shade wore well for five hours, was hydrating, and left a subtle stain behind.

Nonsense

Urban Decay Nonsense Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a deep rose with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff with a creamy, smooth consistency that was a little thinner and less creamy compared to the majority of shades in the Comfort Matte formula. It felt more like a cross between their Mega Matte and Comfort Matte finishes (it just lacked some of the density/body of the Comfort Matte formula–not nearly as velvety). The color applied evenly, and it lasted for six hours and was a touch hydrating overall. This shade left behind a subtle, pinkish stain.

The sheerness of Fireball makes it a tangerine that I might actually be able to wear 🙂

Like Lawbreaker.

Love Backstab. Want Backstab. It’s different from the dupes I have 😉

Like Nonsense. But not more than the dupes I have (Crisis and Vivien).

Katie Avatar

Wow, they are all gorgeous! I want them all (not good, not good!), even Fireball, which is a first for a soft orange colour for me.

Christine you look stunning them all!

Betty Avatar

What a shame Fireball had such a low score, I loved the color on your big picture (in the lip close up it looks too close to your natural lip color, but in the distance the color had a beautiful metallic vibe). I’m glad Lawbreaker got a good grade, that one’s pretty too.

Christine Avatar

Yeah, I feel like UD needs to rethink the Metallized finish or figure out a better distinction between Sheer Shimmer and Metallized. Fireball has some application issues, but the sheerness didn’t have to cause a dip in the rating – if it had been labeled a Sheer Shimmer!

Christine the eye look is gorgeous and matches perfectly all those lip shades. Congratulates!
Fireball looks so pretty. Sad it only got a C.

Bonnie Avatar

I have the Fireball shadow single and the highlighter, Idk why but I feel like I should get the lipstick too lol nope nothing obsessive here. Absolutely nada. Seriously though they are all gorgeous to me. I don’t know how I’m going to choose!

I know I’m late to the game at commenting on this post, but I have had UD’s Lawbreaker for a while – it’s one of my lipstick MLBB holy grails [with UD’s Strip…both limited editions – I’m so lucky! And yes, I bought multiples of both! :o) ]. I’m wondering if you can suggest an UD lipliner that would match Lawbreaker? If all else fails, I have Ozone, but if there is a pigmented one, I would rather use that. I appreciate your expertise, which is why I asked you before I contacted Urban Decay directly! Thank you for your time.
