Urban Decay Black Magic 24/7 Eyeliner Set Review, Photos, Swatches
Urban Decay Black Magic 24/7 Glide-On Eye Double-Ended Pencil Set
Urban Decay Black Magic 24/7 Glide-On Eye Double-Ended Pencil Set ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) includes four, double-ended eyeliners. Each side is 0.01 oz., so it’s really the equivalent of 2 full-sized eyeliners, though you’re getting eight shades for the price of two. These are all previously released shades with two being brought back in this set (Black Market and Tornado) and the others are permanent. Urban Decay’s formula is long-wearing on me (eight to ten hours), and it is a waxy, glide-on formula that doesn’t tug at the lash line, but some shades require two to three passes for full color coverage.
Black Market is described as a “charcoal black satin.” It’s a soft, gray-ish black with subtle shimmer and a pearly sheen. It was buildable to mostly opaque color coverage but was semi-sheer in a single stroke. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading. MAC Metropolis (LE, $16.00) Tarina Tarantino Rockstar Love (P, $15.00) Urban Decay Black Market (LE, $19.00) Urban Decay Uzi (P, $19.00) MAC Black Swan (P, $15.00) See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tornado is described as a “dark eggplant pearl.” It’s a deepened purple with subtle, cool undertones and a satin sheen. It had sheer color payoff in a single stroke, but it was buildable to mostly opaque color coverage. It wore well for nine hours before thinning. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Black Velvet is described as a “rich, smoky black matte.” It’s a rich, deep dark matte black with subtle, warm undertones. It has a very dry, matte finish–more flatter than Perversion. The texture is dry, powder-like, and it applies best in short strokes. It wears nine hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Smoke is described as a “deepest gray matte.” It’s a dark gray with cool undertones and a satin finish. It had sheer color coverage in a single stroke, which was buildable to semi-opaque. The color wore well for eight and a half hours, and the pencil itself was lightly creamy. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Zero is described as a “zealous black cream.” It’s a medium black with a satin finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff in one pass, and it was buildable to mostly opaque coverage. This shade lasted for eight and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Demolition is described as a “deep brown matte.” It’s a dark brown with wwarm, reddish undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had so-so pigmentation in one stroke, but it was buildable to mostly opaque pigmentation with two layers. It lasted for nine hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Perversion is described as a “blackest black matte.” It’s a deep, dark black. This is part of the permanent range. It is one of the creamier pencils by Urban Decay, so it has really good color payoff that goes on smoothly and evenly. It wears nine to ten hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
LSD is described as a “navy shimmer with bright turquoise micro-sparkle.” It’s a blackened navy blue with lighter blue sparkle and shimmer. It had semi-sheer color coverage in one stroke that was buildable to more opaque color in two layers. It wore well for eight and a half hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Thankfully I own these shades from previous releases, phew! Money saved. It’s a shame they made them double ended pencils, I always find myself using one end more than the other and the whole “balance” gets thrown off. 😛
I’ve never used one long enough to see it wear down, lol! That is interesting – I could see that being annoying over time.
Perversion, FTW!!!!!!!!!111
Great black shade!
Looks acceptable. I don’t mind having to do a few passes to get full coverage, as long as the end result is up to par.
yay! 🙂 Do you think this is a set you’d get?
I’m disappointed that they describe this set as each pencil having “a black shade AND a rich, colorful shade” but two of the four “rich, colorful shades” are brown and gray. I would have preferred trading in the gray and brown for green and copper/bronze, and maybe even switching LSD for a different blue since LSD is in the Habitual travel set (and so is Demolition).
Good point, Alice! It’s a very dark set overall!
Yeah, which usually I go for, but this set is just nothing new if you have some of the other travel sets or naked 24/7 duos (which I do).
The first three swatches look a little rough lol. I really like LSD though!
LSD is pretty!
Augh again! This is so awkward, because while a Zero/Demolition pencil would be the best thing ever for me (portability-wise) I’m not too fussed about any of the other shades except perhaps LSD. In fact, I have several of the other shades. Much as I like the double ended pencils, I might have to pass… *gasp!*
I swear they have Zero/Demolition available in some other set…
They have Zero/Whiskey in the “naked 24/7” duo pencils.
Ahh! Thank you!
I like all the different blacks. Tornado and LSD are pretty. I’m glad they got decent grades.
I like the color of Tornado a lot!
This feels a little uninspired, to me.
It’s nice for someone who wears a lot of black eyeliner, I think, but I don’t know how many do that.
Colorwise, this set would be an amazing choice for me, but I just can’t do the formula… I rarely wear anything but black, and when I do wear color, it’s never very vibrant. Tornado & LSD are sooo pretty, too!
I do. I always wear a black liner on my upper lid. Feel naked without it, I swear my eyes are almost invisible if I don’t use a black, or very dark other liner.
Might put this as a question in the survey some day, perhaps.
Do you use pencil mostly or liquid or gel?
I mostly use gel, but when I want a less defined line I love my pencils.
Gotcha! 🙂
I always wear black liner on my top lids, even when the look features bright colored liner on the top lids. I want both the pop of color, and the definition of my upper lashes.
Makes sense! 🙂
I was really hoping for better performance from LSD and Tornado. It looks like Perversion is the best of the bunch, but I only use black along the upper lash line. I’m terrible with pencils for the lash line, so I’ve been using Tarte’s Don’t Stand Black with an angled brush and I’m very happy with it. For future reference, is Perversion one of those liners that one could drag an angled brush across to apply? I’ve tried it with a couple of UD pencil liners (a blue and a purple) I have on hand and didn’t have any luck.
Perversion is pretty creamy–more so than other UD pencils–so you could probably do that. But they have a gel version of it, so I’d just go for that instead.
Yeah, I’ve been curious about their gel liner. I just bought the Maybelline Eye Studio liner last week to practice with… because I’m really terrible at applying just about every liner (to the upper lash line) except pressed powders! Maybe I’ll end up purchasing it after honing my skills. I read your review on it (thank you for that!) and it might actually be easier to apply than the Maybelline liner. It sounds great!
That’s a really excellent one you picked up, so maybe you won’t need to upgrade 🙂
Disappointing to see how messy Black Velvet applied. I think Leesha had the same issue as you.
They’re a product that really doesn’t work in a single stroke for some reason.
I would only consider buying the LSD colour – love that blue. All the others are supremely dupable for the price. There seems to be a lot of very similar colours in this set – perhaps a copper or bronze, a jade green would have given this set a lift.
I think LSD is available separately, in case you are ever so inclined… and it’ll probably come out in a set again!
LSD looks amazing in the pencil but I think I might spring for MAC Industrial instead or check to see how it compares to one of the Sephora pencils I have (Galaxy Girl, I think).
I wonder how similar it will be – maybe smaller shimmer in Galaxy Girl?
I own all but Black Market and Tornado and really love them. The Smoke I have is darker and looks more pigmented than the above swatch. Might skip this since I already have most and don’t need another blue or purple pencil.Going to check it out in person though.
Let me know if you end up getting it, Denise!
Perversion looks fantastic!
It’s a great black eyeliner!
I only have one of these, Zero, and I must say I like it a lot.
I think this set is quite right for me. I always use black or very dark liners. Of course I do have quite a lot of pencil liners, but this is very tempting!
Yay!
Urban Decay didn’t empress me this year
I got Choco Loco from the last 2 years
& I Loved, but I’ve never wear them down!
except first perversion (almost close to half)
and 1 brown, blue & purple (can’t remember the names)
all other are almost new
This year I didn’t like the colorful set, I hoped I will like this but it looks like it’s another pass
Congrats on getting half way through Perversion! That is a lot of black eyeliner ;D
Really DON’T need so much black eyeliner… I already (somehow) have 3 or 4. Won’t stop me from picking up the 10 set though! 😉
10 set has more variety 😀
Oh my goodness, LSD is just to die for !!!!!
It’s a fun shade!
I love the idea of a dual ended liner for traveling!
What a great value to get this set – UD holiday sets are always one of the few that I look forward to!
Finding the naming a bit weird…Milani had a line of double-ended liners called Black Magic. Slightly different concept, each shade had a blackened end and a sparkly end. I’ve got the pink and the teal ones. I have no idea how specific names have to be before it’s an issue between brands.
If I didn’t buy a kit that had Perversion in it in the past year, I’d probably want one of these. The Perversion/LSD one. But not this whole set. So I’m probably best off swatching LSD in store, waiting for a sale, and buying it by itself then if I still want it. 🙂
Interesting that Milani did such a similar concept!
LSD. mmm mmm.
Glad ya liked it!
I love Tornado… I got in last year’s Ocho Loco 2 set. I just finished posting in the favorite eyeliner thread about it and here I am again. Two cheers for Tornado!
As much as I like Perversion, I’m sick of seeing it in so many sets… it’s becoming like Orgasm in Nars sets!
Everytime I use this product, I need to reapply after just a couple of hours.. Not very good longevity for me.
I’m not really an eyeliner girl, but Sephora has this on sale for $24 for Boxing Day, so thought I’d give it a go. Of them all, LSD was what caught my eye, love the colour! Also really like demolition. I think that this kind of set is good for people like me who don’t have a selection of liners already. I can’t see myself getting it, even on sale, if I already had black liners.
Christine, is it a limited edition set? In my city we didn’t even received this in Sephora, but I just found it online. The thing is that on the one side I love it and would love to purchase it, but on the other side, if the set is permanent I’d prefer to buy it next month.
didn’t receive * awww
Yes, it is LE!
