Too Faced Bionic, Miss Thing, & Hoochie Throw Back Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Bionic
Too Faced Bionic Throw Back Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a medium-dark green with cooler teal sparkle and pearl. It looks better from afar as the high-shine finish from all of the shimmer and sparkle camouflages a good amount of the patchiness, but the lipstick did apply terribly–patchy, uneven, and sank into lip lines, likely a result of the rather emollient consistency. It had semi-sheer coverage that did not build up to full coverage when I tried. The color stayed on well for four hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have "creamy, comfortable wear" with "full-coverage" pigmentation and a "multi-reflective glitter finish for high-pigment sparkle payoff." If you aren't a fan of glitter, just skip to the next lipstick formula, because this is for glitter lovers. Most of the shades had semi-opaque to opaque coverage with a few that had sheerer coverage. For as glitter-packed as they were, they felt creamy and smooth being applied and had minimal grittiness even as they wore away. They had average wear--around four hours--with some of the shades that were prone to staining lingering for closer to six hours. The formula was hydrating and easy to wear--these were the very definition of fun and so on-brand for Too Faced. They finally found a way to inject glitter in all of the ways and actually have it work pretty well.

Miss Thing
Too Faced Miss Thing Throw Back Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a light-medium, peachy gold with warm, orange undertones and mulit-colored pearl and glitter. It had semi-sheer coverage, which did not build up beyond medium coverage. The texture was very glittery and seemed to have more glitter than base color. Despite the patchier application, it looked quite pretty from far as it was metallic, sparkling, and reflective. I could see it working better over lip liner or a matte lipstick for adding sparkle, though it had enough sparkle to distract from the application woes that I’ll reach for it again. It lasted for three hours and was moisturizing.

Hoochie
Too Faced Hoochie Throw Back Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a muted, medium brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and finer, multi-color pearl and micro-sparkle. It wasn’t nearly as metallic nor as shiny compared to the other shades in the range, though it had better pigmentation and applied more smoothly. The consistency was lightweight, smooth, and creamy enough to glide across my lips without tugging but stayed in place well. It wore well for four hours and was moisturizing while worn.

Throw Back or “Throw Up”? Between the colours and the less than stellar performance, these are a sad assortment of products meant to be a tribute of some sort to the brand’s history and development over the years.
I’ve been digging this formula a lot myself! Two of the 10 were really disappointing (Bionic and Trampula), and I think some will like Miss Thing (which rated lower) in spite of the sheerness but that’s more about preferences. The other seven were good to great.
I got TF20, Too Too Hot, and Hot Flash, and the formula on those are much better.
I like Hoochie, but it’s close enough to studded that I think I’ll pass.
I can see the similarity there! Definitely the type of color that most probably wouldn’t need too many of!
Thankfully, I have MAC I Get So OCC, because while I love how Hoochie looks, that name is horrid. No way would I ever want something with that as it’s name on my face; it means a “ho”.
Miss Thing looks like a a nice topper, even though it basically fails as lipstick! Again, not the best name, but several steps up from “Hoochie”.
Miss Thing would work well as a layering shade!
How can a brand get one lipstick in the range so right and the others so dud? Only Too Faced!
Love the Hoochie shade.
I feel like they shouldn’t have bothered with a shade like Bionic in a sheer/emollient formula!
It’s utterly ridiculous how much I love Bionic. So much so, that I even feel like I’m willing to give it a shot with my “over foundation lips then blot” approach that has made some emollient lippies work for me. Pondering … pondering …
How about a dark green liner or black liner? I’m thinking like Bite Kale…
A good idea, but in this case, I like the translucency, I just don’t like the slip.
There are some colors (green, blue, grey) that I sometimes want to wear in-your-face-bold, and sometimes want averaged with the color of my lip. I’m usually going for the latter when there’s strong shimmer or glittery effects. I like the idea of making my lips look “greener,” but not flat-out green. Problem is, translucency seems to inevitably come with slip and glossiness, two qualities I can’t stand (which is why I’ll sometimes get products like this, but then I’ll blot them down, layer, blot again — all to get the color qualities without the texture and finish qualities).
Has any company ever made translucent mattes or satin-mattes? I suppose that would qualify as a tinted lip balm, but I feel like there’s more potential there, especially if they worked in shimmers or glitter (and most tinted lip balms — in my experience — are glossy or near-glossy anyway).
There’s a hole in the market! Someone fix this!
Colorwise, I liked Miss Thing and Hoochie. I have a drawer full of lippies so unlikely to buy.
Love the different photo angle!
