Tom Ford Warm (02) Winter 2016 Eye & Cheek Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Warm (02)
Tom Ford Warm (02) Winter Soleil Eye & Cheek Palette ($155.00 for 0.45 oz.) is one of two limited edition, holiday palettes from the brand, and it is the “warmer” of the two. The packaging is the signature white of the Soleil collections, and it comes with a large, interior mirror; it felt substantial to hold and clicked together nicely.
The eyeshadow colors applied well, lasted eight hours, and were easy to work with. The eyeshadows and cheek colors coordinated well together, so I could see the palette being worn on its own for sure. The cheek colors were high-quality, pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing, though the more satin-like shade did not feel dense or as buttery as the more shimmery shade (not really unexpected, as that’s how it usually works out between textures). While pricey, it performed well, and you’d think that would be the norm for luxury products, but it isn’t, so I’m glad it did. I think that both the eyeshadow and blush formulas were comparable to their permanent formulas (though the eyeshadows are not the kind found in Nude Dip or Honeymoon, rather the brand’s other quads).
I wish the brand broke out how much eyeshadow/cheek color was in the palette (oh, and names), because then I could give you a more accurate assessment of total value. Typically, the Eye Color Quads retail for $82.00 and contain 0.35 oz., while the Cheek Colors retail for $60.00 and contain 0.28 oz. Based on that, even if you were getting a full-sized quad and two, half-sized blushes, it would only come to $142, and we know it is less than that, given the total weight is 0.45 oz. of the palette and a full-sized quad and two half-sized blushes would come to 0.63 oz. If you’re someone who likes using all-in-one palettes or would easily reach for and use it as a cohesive palette, it might still have more subjective value to you, but otherwise, you would be better off choosing a full-sized, permanent quad and one full-sized blush (or even the Skin Illuminating Powder Duo), as you’d get more for your money and have the ability to choose the coordinating shades.

Warm (Winter 2016) Blush
Warm (Winter Soleil) Blush is a medium coral-orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was buildable to opaque coverage in two to three layers. The powder’s texture was soft, lightly dusty, and a little thinner, but it blended out without issue and lasted for eight and a half hours before fading.

Warm (Winter 2016) Eyeshadow #1
Warm (Winter Soleil) Eyeshadow #1 is a medium, golden orange with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had good pigmentation with a slightly thinner texture, so it didn’t apply as evenly on bare skin as I would have liked–but it was fine over a primer. The color started to fade after eight hours of wear.

Warm (Winter 2016) Eyeshadow #2
Warm (Winter Soleil) Eyeshadow #2 is a medium brown with warm, orange undertones and a sparkling, glittery finish. The consistency felt almost wet when I touched it, but it was very smooth and blendable on the skin, while the flecks of glitter adhered better than expected to the lid. I had some visible fallout over an eight-hour period, but it was half a dozen to a dozen flecks with plenty of noticeable glitter still on the lid. It had semi-opaque pigmentation both wet and dry.

Warm (Winter 2016) Eyeshadow #3
Warm (Winter Soleil) Eyeshadow #3 is a medium-dark, rosy brown with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage paired with a smooth, blendable consistency that wasn’t too soft or too firm in the pan. The eyeshadow was easy to work with and applied well to bare skin. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Warm (Winter 2016) Eyeshadow #4
Warm (Winter Soleil) Eyeshadow #4 is a blackened brown with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of golden copper and burgundy shimmer. It had good color coverage that applied evenly to the skin. The texture was a bit firmer and thinner compared to the other shades in the palette, but I had no trouble blending or diffusing the color out on the lid. It lasted for eight hours on me.

Warm (Winter 2016) Highlighter
Warm (Winter Soleil) Highlighter is a light-medium, golden peach with warm, orange undertones and a frosted sheen. The pigmentation was fantastic, while the consistency was denser, smooth, and very blendable on the skin. I felt like a little went a long way if you wanted to use it as a highlighter! Even though it was a more noticeable highlighter on the skin, it did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture. This shade wore for nine hours on me.

Pretty! Well curated as a whole, and I especially like most of the eyeshadows and the highlighter as individual players as it were.
Yes, the shades worked well together!
The price is ouchie, but I like the colors, reminds me of summer, or maybe flying to a resort in winter
It is expensive! At least it performed fairly well!
If this had a matte dark shadow in it it’d be perfect for me! So pretty. And I love that blush color.
Darn!
Thanks for the review, Chrisitne. I am enamored with this palette, specifically wearing shades 1 and 2 individually with a little support from 3 or 4. I also LOVE the highlighter, which I’ve worn to highlight under the brow bone and inner corner of the eye. Am still experimenting with shade 4 beyond using it as a liner. I quite like that the highlighter shade – a refreshing change!
Chrisitne, checking to see if your eye makeup pic is using the cool palette?
Was wondering if the value proposition should include the highlighter and compare to a product like the Bicoastal ($78 for .15 oz), which would change the value of similar products ($82 palette + $78 blush/highlighter = $160). Just a thought. I’m glad I bought this during Sephora VIB Rouge sale to bring the price down. ? And I love a fully cohesive, versatile palette. LOVE this palette!!!
The formula is very different (it seemed pretty comparable to their powder blush formula), and usually for value, I try to compare against the nearest single product (not duos/trios/palettes) with the most similar formula (that’s why it’s hard to determine value for a brand like Too Faced or Tarte, as they don’t have singles to compare to). Tom Ford listed “Cheek Color” on the back of the box – the same name as the permanent line, which is why I compared the ones in the palette to the standalone Cheek Color formula 🙂 The ingredient lists for both the permanent Cheek Color and the formula in this seem the same (unless I flipped an ingredient when I tried to compare the two).
For the photos of the blushes, yes, it is not using the warm palette! The look with the Warm palette is in the first slideshow!
Thanks for the detailed description of your methodology, Christine. Really appreciate the range of information you consider. And thanks for directing me to your ‘eye ‘look’ featuring the warm palette. I somehow zipped past those pictures and looked more closely at the ones for the blush & highlighter. Beautiful eye look, as usual. ☺️ Thanks again for your reply, Christine!
I didn’t have the highest hopes for these considering how pricey Tom Ford pieces are! I have to say that the eyeshadows are so beautiful!
It’s better than expected!
Thanks so much for the review Christine! Does the palette have similar vibes as TF Cognac Sable quad? I really wanted to buy that but it was discontinued before i could take the plunge…
I’m sorry, I don’t have that.
Hello there, could you please tell me if the colors on this warm palette is similar to Tom Ford eye color quad Nr. 01 “Golden Mink2 ?
Sorry, I don’t have that.
Very pretty, esp the “highlighter” which looks more like a blush to me.
I could see that!
This is such a beautifully put together whole face palette! Love it! Buuut…I can easily dupe all the shades within my own stash. Because, well, I love these toasty warm shades on myself very much. As a direct result, I have a virtual glut of such!
Money saved! 🙂
I love that coral blush shade.
It’s nice!
Thanks Christine for such a good review as always I really love this palette I like the shadows so much more than in the Cool Palette. Also the blush and highlighter I love. Withe the cool palette the only thing I really liked was the highlighter and for the price of this palette you need to love everything about it. I did receive 20% off or I don’t think I would of purchase it.
I love this palette, I actually spent most of holiday money on Tom Ford, I didn’t like what Guerlain, CHANEL was offering and am really pleased with both palettes and the sunblock.
Very, very pretty and quite handy for travelling. The blush shades are gorgeous.
I quite like this one, I think I like it better than the cooler one. I’m still not getting it, but I totally understand everyone who does.
I do really like two of the eyeshadows, snd will check all the dupes for them. (The rosy and the daraker brown ones.)
I love this palette but I would feel like such a sucker paying for it, no consideration to value given feels like a slap in the face of its customers.
Cute palette in design and quality but too pricey. I LOVE looking at Tom Ford’s makeup but I won’t buy it. I can afford it, I just won’t do it.
Totally understand! Even though I can justify the purchase, I specifically waited until there was a sale/discount, because it was just so high. It’s a lot to put towards a single product – I really think you have to LOVE it and use it frequently to make it worth it, you know?
totally understand. My makeup habit has become more structured lol, I am now looking more at the price of things than how much I want it. I so want a Tom Ford lipstick though UGH. Maybe I’ll get some Sephora giftcards for xmas then it’ll be on someone else dime.
I finally bit the bullet on this after lusting over it for literally months! I tried to track down a gently used one on Ebay but no such luck, so I used by 1x 10% VIB coupon and it’s on its way to me. I can’t wait!
