Tom Ford Surge & Thrust Lip Sparks Reviews & Swatches
Surge
Tom Ford Beauty Surge Lip Spark ($55.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a deeper gold with larger, chunkier flecks of glitter paired with a warmer, more brown base. It had more semi-opaque coverage when I swatched it, but on my lips, it seemed more semi-sheer to medium in coverage. The texture was sparkly; I could feel the edges of the glitter as I applied the lipstick and if I pressed my lips together. This shade seemed to have the largest particles, and it also applied the worst in the range where the glitter clumped up and emphasized my lip texture. It did not go on evenly either. It stayed on decently for three and a half hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.

Formula Overview
$56.00/0.1 oz. - $560.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to "look" like "loose glitter on lips" with "uniform payoff" and "multidimensional color" paired with an "emollient" feel. The pigmentation varied from medium to semi-opaque that adhered evenly and fairly smoothly to my lips. The consistency varied from emollient without any grit/texture from the glittery bits to slightly noticeable during application but didn't feel gritty or rough to me while worn (for any of the shades).
The texture had slip but was lightweight and on the thinner side, so it did not feel slippery. Only one shade was problematic--Surge--which clumped up and was sheerer compared to the other shades. They lasted between four and six hours and were lightly hydrating over time. They had a hint of vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Surge
LELimited Edition. $56.00.
Thrust
Tom Ford Beauty Thrust Lip Spark ($55.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium, rosy copper with warmer, brown undertones and flecks of pink and gold glitter. It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips with just the barest amount of texture (from all the glitter). The texture was lightweight, emollient without being heavy or slippery, and comfortable to wear. It had a very high-shine, reflective finish with enough glossiness that prevented the more metallic/glittery finish from emphasizing my lip texture. It wore well for four hours on me and was lightly hydrating over time.

These are pretty, but I highly doubt they’re special enough for 55 bucks.
I agree it’s interesting and thrust definitely sticks out to me. But I can’t spend that much on lipstick…
Thrust is exactly my kind of coppery lipstick shade. Not so warm as to show up my older, yellowing teeth, nor so cool that it veers into something other than copper, either. Stupid me. I should have ordered it during the Sephora sale. At the time, I didn’t notice that it is LE. ?
Yes I too should have ordered it during the sale as well, I missed the “LE” too.
thrust looks beautiful but the name makes me viscerally uncomfortable
The names Surge and Thrust are just too much.
Thrust is a lovely shade, not worth $55 US though – there are some great dupes, thanks to you fabulous dupe list Christine.
I like Thrust, but refuse to pay that much for a lipstick. Christine, Surge looks really nice on you and you look a bit “sunkissed”.
Everything about these (surge in particular) is so pretty in the tube that if I had any spare money to throw away I’d just buy them to look at on occasion.
….applying them, not so much.
These give me the heebie-jeebies. Especially the closeups of the bullets… don’t know why, but… shudder.
Not that I was planning on buying a TF lipstick, and I’m not going to as it rated so low, but I love the look of Surge. I was looking at the photos of your lips, Christine and thinking, yeah, pretty and then I came to the full face photo and it was a WOW-moment. It is a gorgeous, shiny, shimmery loveliness to look at. Most things in your description said, no! But that photo said Yes! 🙂
Still not going to get it, but I do love it.
Thrust might be a lot better in so many ways, but it doesn’t scream my name.
So glad you didn’t switch the names in the title. :-/
The apparent pattern on the sides is interesting. I saw this in another sparkly lipstick you reviewed. I think you mentioned then that the bullet came that way; fascinating to look at.
They’re beautiful to look at in these photos, but not special enough to be worth that price tag. It’s funny – if I saw surge and thrust anywhere else, I’d think of electricity, aircraft engines and rockets, but when Tom Ford is attached to those words, my mind goes to the gutter. ?
The bullets look amazing but the final product blends too closely in with your natural lip color to have any real impact. And they are definitely not worth that kind of money.
Thrust will be a lovely shade to consider when it comes to the CCO.
