Supernouveau

Tom Ford Beauty Supernouveau Eye Color Quad ($88.00 for 0.35 oz.) includes a shimmery peach and pewter paired with more matte mauve and black hues. The formula was soft to the touch but often was more powdery/dusty, which led to weaker pigmentation and a tendency to sheer out on my lid. It would be necessary to introduce primer into the mix to get better, more consistent results.

Supernouveau #1

Supernouveau #1 is a soft, golden peach with warm, orange undertones and a pearly sheen. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a soft, silky texture that was slightly dusty in the pan but had good adhesion (without sheering out) on bare skin. It applied evenly and blended out without much effort. This shade lasted well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Supernouveau #2

Supernouveau #2 is a dirty, greenish-gray with subtle, cool undertones and a frosted finish. It had a soft, more powdery consistency that was prone to sheering out and had some fallout during application. The pigmentation was more semi-sheer and buildable to medium coverage but needed a primer or to be layered over the #4 shade to give it greater intensity. It wore well for seven hours before fading visibly.

Supernouveau #3

Supernouveau #3 is a medium-dark mauve with strong, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The eyeshadow had good pigmentation initially, but it had a tendency to sheer out when applied to bare skin. The consistency was silky to the touch but had some dustiness in the pan. It stayed on nicely for seven hours before I noticed signs of fading.

Supernouveau #4

Supernouveau #4 is a deep black with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It was intensely pigmented with a slightly drier, stiffer consistency that picked up well with a brush but took more effort to soften and diffuse around the edges. I think the latter is quite critical when working with more pigmented and/or darker hues like this one, though. It lasted well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

It feels like his brand has taken a huge dip in quality recently. This quad is fairly atrocious for its price! My Honeymoon quad felt very different from the times I swatched it from testers 2 or 3 years ago, too. Definitely dryer and the red had the consistency of that pewter shade. Something is slipping. Hopefully, he gets on it before all respectability around his brand goes down the drain!

Funny that you mention this because I got Honeymoon a year or so ago and loved it, but had to replace it after a couple of the pans suddenly started falling out of the packaging. Like, the entire square of shadow would fall out as one collective lump. I noticed that the shadows in the newer Honeymoon quad are much more dry/dusty compared to the creamy smoothness of my original quad, but I thought I was just imagining things because I hadn’t heard of any changes in formula.

Ho, hum….how is it that the grey in the BadAss quad is so good and this one is such drek??? Now, this one is shown on Sephora so I can confirm that the price in Canada is a ridiculous $115 (plus taxes, no less) and the Bad Ass one is now listed there too – same price. At least it performs better but still – $115 for ordinary with a name slapped on? Not for this woman! Honestly, I would rather give the money to a food bank or homeless shelter.

And for $88 lol no. When I company as inexpensive as Colourpop can knock it out of the park on almost all their eyeshadows for literally a fraction of a fraction of the cost I wonder what goes on at these makeup companies. In the age of indie makeup the corporate makeup companies need to watch out.
