Tom Ford Platinum & Spice Cream Color for Eyes Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Tom Ford Platinum Cream Color for Eyes
Tom Ford Platinum Cream Color for Eyes ($42.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a warm, smoky taupe with a frosted shimmer-sheen finish. This shade is a real chameleon, though, because it will just as readily look like a bronze as it will a cooler-toned, almost purplish-taupe. I think it’s going to look a little different from person to person, depending on the lighting and what you pair it with, as a result (more so than most shades). This shade was released previously, and it’s back again for a limited time. It’s very pigmented–a little goes a long way–and the texture is a wet, mousse-cream, so it applies really well as it goes on evenly. It’s not the type of texture I’d expect to stay on well, but on me, it lasts eight hours before creasing slightly. Chanel Poesie #1 (LE) is lighter, more golden. Guerlain Petrouchka #5 (LE) is darker. MAC Mortal #5 (LE) is cooler-toned. MAC Trusted Instinct #2 (LE) is cooler-toned. Makeup Geek Night Life (P, $6.99) is similar. Tom Ford Beauty Nude Dip #3 (LE) is similar. Make Up For Ever D562 Taupe Platinum (P, $21.00) is more sparkly. LORAC Mocha (P) is similar. Maybelline Sleek & Spice (95) (LE, $6.99) is cooler-toned. Sleek MakeUP Python (P, $9.99) is less shimmery. Sleek MakeUP Paradise on Earth (P, $9.99) is cooler-toned. Ulta Taupe (P, $10.00) is darker. Urban Decay Mugshot (P, $18.00) is darker. Urban Decay Liar (P, $18.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Her Cocoa #4 (LE, $15.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tom Ford Spice Cream Color for Eyes ($42.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a warm, golden bronze with red undertones and a soft, pearly sheen. It had rich, full color coverage using very little product (use less than you think you’d need), and it blends easily on the skin. The color lasted for nine hours before creasing slightly. MAC Mortal #4 (LE) is lighter.Make Up For Ever I634 Praline (P, $21.00) is darker. MAC Sable Riche (LE, $15.00) is similar. Dior Golden Flower #4 (LE) is yellower. Chanel Charming #3 (LE) is similar. Too Faced Gangsta (LE, $16.00) is more golden. Urban Decay Smog (P, $18.00) is more golden. NARS Fez (P, $24.00) is similar. MAC Museum Bronze (P, $21.00) is browner. MAC Coil (LE, $21.00) is similar. Le Metier de Beaute Axiom (LE, $30.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Spice looks absolutely stunning! But I don’t expect anything less from Tom Ford.
It’s a nice shade of warm copper-bronze!
Oooh that looks gorgeous! I’d love to play around with this, see how it wears on me.
Let me know how it wears for you!
The way that they look in the pots makes them looks like they’re some sort of chocolate spread or something.. yum! :p Love platinum, looks so rich and the color is beautiful!
Haha! 😉
I couldn’t find this on Nordstrom’s website – do you happen to know if they’ll carry it later?
I hope so – haven’t spotted them at all yet on Nordstrom!
I just got mine from Neiman Marcus, if that helps!
Hey Christine, oh I so want Platinum! I heard rumors that this one is slightly different from the previous release. I checked your post from 2 years ago, and it seems like there is some truth in that. I am so so tempted! Not too happy to see the 2-dollar increase in price though. As if 40 weren’t bad enough!
They seem really similar to me, but it’s a shade that changes a lot depending on application (how heavy or light) AND light. It straight-up looks cool-toned on me at times, and then other times it’s all bronze.
I have both of these from the original release. Platinum is much loved in my collection, pulls more taupey bronzey on me and is one of my favourite one and done shadows of all time. Spice, on the other hand, pulls quite orange on me so not a favourite. I do like Spice with layered on the bottom with the orangey side of NARS Surbaya duo, but it’s not the most flattering colour on me. I just like the shimmery coppery effect. If you have blue eyes, this would seriously rock.
Glad you have ’em both, and are at least really loving Platinum 🙂
I’m glad these got a good review, I ordered and picked them up the other day, afraid they might sell out lol 🙂 The look you did is beautiful-may I ask what brush(s) you used to apply these? I usually do a wash of color with cream eyeshadows but I didn’t want to overdue it with Spice-so pigmented!
I used MAC’s 242 and 249!
I love Platinum! I wish these weren’t limited Edition though that means I am never getting my hands on this! 😐
It’s a really interesting shade!
This looks beautiful with your eye color. The container is larger than other cream shadows, which is nice, but the price is out there.
It’s huge, but I’d rather them give less and charge less as a result – it’ll take SO long to get through a pot.
I just platonum… Im so very glad I bought it. I love cream eye shadows, amd this one is amazing.
Grrr… Platinum. Yes, it is a dream to apply.
almost too close to plutonium ..
So smooth!!
Damn, these are super pretty. It’s too bad those are pricey as hell!
They are VERY hard on the wallet!
I’m crushing so hard on Platinum! *sigh* Christine, did yours have the TF logo on the jar with a sticker? I heard that happened to a lot of people before, and I was curious…. In your strictly personal opinion, do you think these are worth the price tag??
If you would wear it often, sure. I have two (Pink Haze and Escapade) that I bring with me whenever I travel. I could wear just those two all the time and be very happy – they just work and look great on me. I would buy them over and over again. Spice, to me, is too dupable and not complex enough to justify – Platinum may be more interesting, and at least it is a complex (though it is still dupable). I’d buy Platinum again, probably.
I would, of course, simply prefer Tom Ford halve the size of these and charge $32. Cream products are harder to keep lasting for long, unlike powder products, and so it takes so long to finish a jar (you need SO SO little to cover the entire lid), so a smaller pot makes sense to me with the side benefit of paying a little less. (What good is 10 tons of product if you’ll never finish it, you know?)
I know exactly what you mean. Even my HG eyeshadows take forever to use up at .05 oz, so .21oz seems a bit excessive. I just placed my order for Platinum and am so excited!!! 😀 Thanks so much for your detailed response, Christine. I want you to know that yours is one of the opinions I value most highly when it comes to beauty products and makeup! Temptalia is seriously a beauty junkie life-saver!
Always happy to help, Estefania <3
Hallelujah to that!
It reminds me of cookie butter… I’m in love
Yum 😉
I bought both these products but haven’t used them yet. How do you apply them Christine? Do you use your fingers or a brush? To keep the pot as hygenic as possible, I’d really hate to use my fingers.
I use MAC’s 242 or 249 brush – any flat synthetic brush is ideal. If it isn’t too flat, you can still blend using the edge of the brush, or you can go back with a fluffier brush or fingertips to blend edges.
so glad you reviewed these! neiman’s in phoenix is having a big tom ford event soon-these weren’t for sale until the event, but i had the SA set one of each aside for me. now i’m really glad i did. they look beautiful.
So glad you have a set saved for you, Beka! How is Phoenix? Cooling down at all? 😉
I’ve been waiting for these to make their arrival to Nordstrom since I have notes. I don’t see it on the site yet. 🙁
They look beautiful; they look like things I have… but I’m still getting both of them.
Haven’t seen them pop up on Nordstrom yet, but Nordstrom appeared to be last to put up the Matte lipsticks, so maybe they will be there soon.
It’s very pretty on you, Christine, but I am not seeing how this color is anything near to a platinum. Platinum is a whitish neutral metallic. I guess if you love the color the name doesn’t matter, but I personally don’t like words to be used in a misleading way.
Totally understand!
These are must buys for me even though they are waaaay more than I normally pay for cosmetics. I bought the pink haze and escapade shadows based on your review and they are far and away my favorite shadows. So pumped that they made more!
I always take those with me when I travel – just a total go-to combo that works well for me and lasts all day. Looks more complex than it is but takes a minute to do!
Stunning! These look like something to eat, lol. I wish I used cream shadows more often. But since picking up the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks, I find myself doing so more often. Platinum is definitely a beautiful shade that I could see many getting good use out of. 🙂
Yay for Caviar Sticks ;D
Platinum is really pretty – I like those chameleon shades! It’s one of the reasons I like that good old Fire and Ice lipstick from Revlon, actually…
Me too… except as a reviewer, of course, then I side-eye them a little, since they make life a little more complicated 😉
very pretty
Which did you like most?
Tom Ford’s makeup is on the top of my wishlist! I probably already have similar colours, but what the heck! It’s Tom Ford 🙂
What’s at the top of your wish list from Tom Ford, Stephanie?
They’re both lovely, especially Spice. In the photos, they look like little tubs of cake frosting.
Now I just want cake… cheaper than Tom Ford.
Would love to try Spice!
It’s a nice bronze!
These are gorgeous, but yikes! $42… I can only imagine what they will be for us Canadians.
They are really expensive 🙁
haha.. my honey thought I was checking out a picture of cake frosting, like the ones you get in the supermarket with the box cake mix.
Little did he know it’s the most expensive cake frosting, LOL!
WAAAAY to warm for me.
Aww!
Platinum is gorgeous, I’m afraid to get into Tom Ford because it’s so expensive, but that’s freaking perfect, maybe if I wear it every single day until it’s gone, it’s worth it to me.
I think with these, they should be shades you’d wear often!
Just, wow. They are so stunning applied here! Tempted…
They are really smooth!
Platinum is so pretty!
I think it’s so strange, maybe I said this already, but when visiting the newly opened TF counter, I wasn’t tempted at all.
It could be the lighting, or that I wasn’t in the mood. Now I have a very good reason to revisit, and see if my first impression was totally off.
You have such restraint, Helene!!
Gorgeous!! I did wince at the 42$ for 0.21oz but that eye look you have going on there..so pretty! SOLD.
I wish they’d give you less and charge less, lol!
Hi Christine! I was wondering if the Tom Ford logo on the caps are printed on a sticker like the 2012 release? It looks like it isn’t so according to your photo, but I would like to ask you because I am not 100 percent sure . Thank you !
They’re not stickers from what I can tell! I kept scraping at it with my nail, but no luck.
Thank you!!
After reading your review and seeing the photos, I ordered Platinum. Received it today and must say I’m extremely happy with the color! Beautiful and unlike anything else i have. Agree that it seems to be somewhat of a chameleon, which I like. The formula is a dream to apply – it has a very light, almost a whipped texture. Your blog frequently influences my purchasing, whether it is a color choice, or decision to try a product that’s new to me. Thank you!
I’m so relieved! So glad you are loving Platinum, Bonnie. It is a really neat color with the way it changes 🙂 Enjoy!!
I know this post is a bit old but would you say it stays ‘tacky’ on the lid or does it eventually set? I saw one of these used in a tutorial and someone mentioned that they stay kind of wet on the lid so you can use it as a base for eyeshadow to cling to it.
If I shell out for one (Platinum has been calling my name for, I don’t know, 2 YEARS) I’d be worried about it creasing with my oily/hooded eyes. I always use a primer but if it doesn’t dry down at all it’s likely to move on me.
They dry down fully for me – they aren’t waterproof or anything. I would say that they really just wear like powder eyeshadows once they set, because if I pressed my finger or rubbed at it, I would see transfer ON my finger but not all of it would wipe off or anything.
Awesome, since I caved and bought it.
Thank you so much for the reply. You’re always so on top of things (which isn’t easy now considering all the holiday releases)
Phew 😉
Have you tried it yet, CeeCee? Hope you love it, though.
I just received Spice yesterday, and I love it! Do you have a favorite lipstick or gloss that you pair up with this shadow? I love the reddish copper undertone, but it’s not a color that I normally use.
