Tom Ford Molten Orchid & Pink Sabre Lip Lacquer Liquid Metal Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Molten Orchid
Tom Ford Beauty Molten Orchid Lip Lacquer Liquid Metal ($54.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark berry with subtle, cool undertones and a faint, metallic shimmer finish. It had good color payoff, though it wasn’t opaque, that applied evenly across my lips with ease. The texture felt smooth and moved fluidly without losing coverage, though it had moderate tackiness while worn. I felt like it had a good balance of long-wear and comfort with the tackiness, as it did not feel heavy or glue-like to me. On me, this shade stayed on well for six hours and left a faint stain behind. The formula was nicely hydrating during and after wear.

Formula Overview
$54.00/0.09 oz. - $600.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be a "liquid-gel" that optically "plumps" the lips due to the "mirror-like" finish. It is supposed to be "long-wearing" with "stay-true color" that is hydrating. They are fairly pigmented with most shades being opaque in one layer. The texture was smooth, light-medium in thickness but felt lightweight, and had moderate tackiness, though I'd say less tackiness than most other formulas I've tried that are similar (other opaque, metallic glosses). The wear ranged from five to six hours, and my lips felt hydrating during and after wear. They had a soft, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Pink Sabre
Tom Ford Beauty Pink Sabre Lip Lacquer Liquid Metal ($54.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer, and the color went on evenly without streaking. There was a smidgen of color that pulled into my deeper lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance as the finish was very shiny and reflective. The consistency was lightweight, light-medium in thickness, and smooth, which made it comfortable to wear, but it had some tackiness. It lasted well for five and a half hours and was moisturizing over time.

Oh my gosh, these are beautiful. Why did I have to pick now to go on a no buy!! I am so glad they are part of the permanent collection. I may pick them up in Europe. I had decided to buy a new lipstick in each of the cities we stay in through Europe as a souvenir of sorts. Either or both of these would be wonderful.
Both are stunning shades with lovely finishes to them. However….I do have Seadragon and Furry, so I’m guessing that I ought to skip these two. Besides, at this price point, I’d probably just buy one that I absolutely love the way I do Seadragon. That is most likely No Vacancy.
Those are gorgeous! Especially Molten Orchid! It’s so nice to see a liquid formula that is somewhat hydrating and doesn’t leave your lips looking dried up.
Pink Sabre is a pretty shade and these do look really good.
Too rich for my blood, but both very nice. I was confused about what these are until I went to the Tom Ford website to look them up — apparently they’re non-matte liquid lipsticks? I assumed glosses at first. I appreciate that more companies are coming out with products like this, as I never got into matte liquid lipsticks (or glosses), but really like the doe-foot application method for lip color.
They feel and behave a lot more like a gloss (lacquer) than a traditional liquid lipstick, IMO! There are, however, a set of matte ones within the Lip Lacquer formula (matte finish) that are very much like liquid lipsticks that dry down to a matte finish.
Oh well. That’s okay, though, since I wasn’t planing on purchasing any anyway.
I tried Molten Orchid in the store as I really wanted to buy the colors. It’s such a pretty shade but I wanted to see how it wears on me first. The TF MUA applied the shade on me but the formula was so tacky, everytime I speak I had the impression of my lips being glued to each other. I pressed my lips on a tissue to remove a bit of the excess but still, throughout the wear that tacky and sticky sensation was there. I didn’t get along with any of the metallic shades, but I did get some of the matte ones. 🙂
Yeah, I could definitely see the formula being too tacky for some, though I didn’t feel like it was glue-like personally! On the other hand, I’d never, ever wear a Tom Ford Liquid Matte voluntarily. One of the most drying and painful formulas I’ve ever worn!
