Tom Ford Leopard Sun Eye Color Quad Review & Swatches
Leopard Sun
Tom Ford Beauty Leopard Sun Eye Color Quad ($88.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a new, permanent offering that features a sparkly gold, pop of orange, copper, and soft brown. For anyone who likes Tom Ford eyeshadows and warm-toned neutrals, it might be a good fit. I liked it, and I found the satin shades to be easy enough to use together, but it wasn’t perfect across the board. I do think that the more satin to softly shimmery finishes are underutilized by brands, as they tend to “melt” on the lid and look very smooth, as the shades in this quad did.

Leopard Sun #1
Leopard Sun #1 is a light-medium gold with warm, orange undertones and a sparkling, lightly metallic finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, which was buildable to mostly opaque coverage (two to three layers), applied with a dry brush, but there was some fallout and sparkle migration as I blended it out. When I used it with a dampened brush, it had more opaque coverage in one layer, and it had less fallout. The texture was dense with slight slip but didn’t feel as “wet” as some of the glittery eyeshadows have felt in past Tom Ford quads. It wore well for seven hours with some fallout applied dry and closer to eight hours with less fallout applied damp.

Leopard Sun #2
Leopard Sun #2 is a bright pop of tangerine with strong, warm yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. It had excellent pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too powdery nor too firmly pressed in the pan. It lasted well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Leopard Sun #3
Leopard Sun #3 is a muted, medium-dark coppery red with warm undertones and a satin finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage that adhered fairly evenly to bare skin, but I felt like the texture had a bit more slip than ideal (likely from silicones) so it tended to need extra buffing along the edge to diffuse it well. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading slightly.

Leopard Sun #4
Leopard Sun #4 is a light-medium bronw with soft, warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had good color payoff that applied evenly to my lid, though the texture was slightly dusty so there was slight fallout when I tried using it the first time. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before I noticed some fading.

I like satin finishes, I find these kind of finishes are generally under utilized by brands. In this quad, I do find that shades 1 & 2 are fairly similar to each other. Overall, it is a pretty quad, but overpriced for what you get.
Such a pretty palette nit much too expensive for the quality.
Thanks Christine for reviewing this , , I like the cohesion in this quad , it seems like something well harmonized I could wear but its sold out everywhere. When I couldn’t find it , I tried a Shiseido Essentualist eyeshadow Quad called “ Jizoh Street Reds “ that I like .
I think I’ll just look for the dupes for the tangerine colors.
This is my personal taste, but I find this quad quite boring.
Had the quality been at least B+ on the 1st shade, and at least A- or higher for each of the other 3 shades, I’d have gone for this. I’m definitely not put off by warm neutral colors, but poorer quality turns me off.
This is the quad I like the most of those recently released. You did a beautiful eye look, Christine!
Christine,
As a rule, I probably wouldn’t purchase a palette in these colors. Not ideal for my complexion. But, your eye look made me wish I could pull it off!!
Overall, price per use is too high, and the quality is a little disappointing.
I really enjoyed your year-end photos of Mellan; there were some great ones that I’d missed.
