Tom Ford Lips & Boys Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.07 oz.) is segmented into color families, and this post features the “light pinks to mauves.” James and Richard were both lovely, which is no surprise since they’re repromotes of this past fall’s lipsticks. You can find Addison (which is part of this family) here, as it was sold out when I originally placed my order, and I already reviewed it! 🙂

Right now, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus are both accepting pre-orders for the Lips & Boys collection; they officially release on December 26th (and will also be at other retailers and Tom Ford’s website at that time).

The Lips & Boys shades seem a lot smaller than the full-sized Lip Colors in their tubes, but in terms of actual product, it’s 0.07 oz. vs. 0.10 oz. These are actually cheaper by the ounce at $457.14/oz. compared to $500/oz. for full-size. I liked that the packaging felt the same as full-sized, just smaller, but it didn’t feel cheapened. The bullet of lipstick itself was also wide enough at the base that it didn’t feel really skinny or difficult to use, and it wasn’t prone at breaking at the base as some miniature-sized lipsticks are.

Ian Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a light pink with warm undertones and a frosted gold shimmer. The finish was rather glossy, and it felt a lot more like Lip Color Sheer than a Lip Color. The glossier, wetter consistency paired with semi-sheer color coverage just doesn’t ring true to the Lip Color formula. The color applied somewhat streaky, which is probably because of how much slip it had, and did settle into lip lines just slightly. It lasted for three and a half hours on me and moderately moisturizing. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Flynn Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a light-medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that went on evenly. This one seemed to pull into lip lines slightly after two and a half hours of wear, though it lasted for four and a half all in all. It was lightly hydrating and was comfortable to wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Addison Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.07 oz.) was reviewed previously here.

James Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium coral-orange with warm undertones and a natural finish–a little shine but not glossy. It was intensely pigmented with a creamy, easy-to-apply formula that went on beautifully. On me, the color wore well for five and a half hours and was hydrating over time. This is the same as Twist of Fate, which was a limited edition shade released this past fall. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Richard Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark warm-toned plum with a satin finish. There was very, very fine white-silver pearl. This shade had full color coverage, and the consistency was creamy enough to apply evenly and smoothly, but it didn’t slide around on the lips. It lasted for five hours on me and kept my lips moisturized during that time. This is the same as Negligee, which was a limited edition shade released this past fall. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I hope you can snag a shade from this range – I think it is a really great way to try the brand without the $50 price tag. $32 isn’t cheap, but it’s a lot more manageable than $50. The best part is that you’re actually getting more for your money, technically! And still, 0.07 oz. is a good quantity of product.

I can’t decide on these so I got one, Peter, because I didn’t own a like shade. And I still can’t decide so might not ever end up with another…
I’m surprised at the inconsistency. I guess that’s what happens with such a range of finishes?

I picked up Ian and Flynn and actually love them both! I enjoyed the different texture and look of Ian, but I’m in a phase with that kind of stuff right now, I guess (I picked up Burberry Lip Mist in Gold and adore it to the point of wanting a backup despite a lot of mediocre reviews…I’m very fair so these really interesting shimmery shades are a fun and subtle but different look without noticing a lot of settling at all)! Flynn is a MLBB shade for me for sure, and probably one of the most flattering shades I’ve found. I mean, honestly, though, I’ve picked up 6 so far (TF placed the one I ordered that first night on backorder, so the 7th is coming soon…hopefully) and have been thrilled with every single one. I don’t think I’ve ever met a Tom Ford lip product that I didn’t like, and it was so great to have so many choices!

I think Patrick is a really lovely shade…it’s such a perfect summer color, especially on people like me who have trouble with corals that lean too warm. But I think they’re all great! I tried to be a bit adventurous with some of the shades…I wasn’t sure if Jack would be too purple and was pleasantly surprised that I could pull it off…but every shade so far has been beautiful!

Hm, you know… I’ve been thinking about seeing if I can get one of these through my contacts in the US 😉 I know I’ve just been showered in miniature lipsticks, but the price of these makes it a little bit more manageable for me to try the TF brand (which I’d really love to do!). Now I just have to decide which shade(s)… T_

OT: I like James and Richard here – Richard has that muted thing again! Either that or I’m just seeing it everywhere now, LOL!

I thought James has a bit of coral to it? Think I’ll swap my pre-order of Addison for Richard but I’ll wait for your reviews on Guillermo and Blake. They are from 3 (I think?) different color families but they are looking closely similar to me :0

i really really really want ian for personal reasons, but… i think the color would look horrendous on me :\ if only it were a little darker and not so shimmery. i *might* still get it and have it as a display~ piece, kind of like my ysl one, though i actually do wear that one lol
