Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eye Palette ($49.00 for 0.53 oz.) contains sixteen eyeshadows. It’s currently available to VIB/VIB Rouges at Sephora, but it will launch for everyone on December 15th and be in-store in January. I tested about half of the shades yesterday and will be testing the other half today, with a review hopefully tomorrow 🙂

Blueberry Swirl… what the heck? Didn’t they learn from Candied Violet in the first palette? And Pink Sugar is like… nothing.

Huh, not impressed overall. I will probably be an outlier in saying this, but it’s too much matte for me. I only see about 3 truly shimmery shades and shimmer is my jam.

Also, this is so very similar to the last one… swapping out two shades for taupes does not automatically transform this into a cooler palette.

So many people adore the original palette and consider it holy grail. It’s grown on me over time, but I’m just okay on it. I’ve always thought the quality was mediocre. This one appears to be the same deal!

I’m disappointed in the Blueberry Swirl, but I do love the fact that that actually have matte, warm toned transition shades! That hardly ever happens.

Rox Avatar

This looks so nice (like everything Too Faced) but I’m not that happy for all the matte shades…I guess that if you have the (first) Chocolate Palette, you may miss this one.

Carla Avatar

The colours look much better than I thought they would first time I saw the palette on Instagram, honestly. However that blue seems to lack pigmentation! Overall there’s a couple of shades I really, really like (Peanut butter, I’m looking at you!), but having just bought the first one (can’t wait to get back home, get it and play with it) I think I’ll skip on this one. At least for now, because I know myself… haha.

Lauren Avatar

Meh. A lot of the swatches look so so and the colors just don’t make me feel “I need this.” I already have 3 Too Faced Neutral palettes – the original Chocolate Bar (which I absolutely love), the Natural Eye (also love), and Natural at Night (I like it a lot for dates and special events). This palette doesn’t add anything I don’t already have from my other Too Faced neutral palettes (or my bazillion neutral palettes from other brands). And the swatches only look so so.

I love the original chocolate bar palette, but I may pass on this one. It looks way too similar to the first one, and the colors don’t look to be anything new or exciting. I have plenty of neutral palettes (I own all 3 naked palettes, the original Chocolate Bar palette, and Lorac Pro 2), so I think I’ll keep my $50 instead..

Larissa Avatar

Hmmmmm. The shade selection and color payoff looks disappointing in this iteration of the Chocolate Bar Palette, in my opinion. I think I’ll pass and stick with my original Chocolate Bar, though I’m looking forward to seeing your review!

Andie Avatar

I ordered this when it launched for VIB Rouge and used my $25 off coupon. Depending on how you review it, I might exchange it for something else. The promotional images made this look a lot different. I definitely think it’s pretty, I’m just not sure I need it.

charlotte Avatar

That is true.. I got burned on one of the Vice palettes that way, 2 I think. They only gave me credit for the amount of money I actually paid after coupon. I exchanged it for a less expensive palette and still had to pay out of pocket. I was NOT a happy camper. I not only protested to the manager I called corporate when I got home, the answer was still the same. Choose wisely if using coupons.

Christina Avatar

Hmm, this palette is extremely warm toned, and the shades that I hoped would inject a little colour into my looks are really sheer in your swatches. I don’t own the first palette, but I think I like those shades better.

Christine Avatar

No, I almost never swatch with eyeshadow primer. The only time I can even recall is in the case of something like Fyrinnae’s loose eyeshadows which are pretty much designed to be used with Pixie Epoxy, but I do that, it is fully disclosed. When a brand markets their eyeshadow formula has richly pigmented and long-wearing, it shouldn’t need a primer! 🙂

Christine Avatar

Aww, nuts. The Blueberry Swirl shade I was pining for didn’t work out. The shades look way too similar to the first chocolate bar to justify buying another version. I’m glad Too Faced listened and fixed the packaging issue from the first chocolate bar. If they’re still listening, there needs to be more cool toned palettes, please. =D

charlotte Avatar

Also Clinique has gorgeous cool toned eight pans coming.. and warm toned as well there are five or six of them. They are already online and I sweet talked a lady at the counter to sell me two early. I wanted them all, they are really lovely.

Kelly Avatar

Maybe I’m the minority but I really do love this it has just the right amount of copper/golds for me, with my fair warm skin and blue eyes. I also really love all the mattes in the this one. I constantly use the other chocolate bar at least every other day. I really wish it was in stores on the 15th though, I’ll have to stalk Sephora on the 15th in order to get it for Christmas since it really so far is the only makeup related item I want. Can’t wait for your full review Christine!

Rachel R. Avatar

Christine, you are awesome to get these up so quickly.

Blueberry Swirl is quite different than I thought it would be. It looks more of a steely blue than a teal. Licorice looks better than the swatch from the holiday palette. I’m keen to see your review. I hope it performs as well as the original.

Sarah Avatar

I really like this palette. The deeper browns are really lovely! The original CB palette was a bit too light for my tastes, but omg, these two together are heaven! And I can still keep my Naked 1, which has just enough difference to make it worthwhile to keep 🙂

Rose Avatar

I love the fact that there are a lot more neutrals in this palette. I especially love peanut butter as a transition shade. I’m going to twiddle my thumbs and refuse to get this palette till there is a full review.

Cecilia Avatar

Ordered it today with my VIB Rouge Gift Card, so I only paid half price (Yay!) I went back and forth on the original chocolate bar last year.. it seemed more cool toned on against my yellow/olive complexion. This one seems more up my alley with the warmer tones. Be curious to know what you think!

taylor Avatar

The chocolate bar palettes haven’t ever been very tempting, I think its because I have the Shadow Bon Bons palette from a few Christmases ago, and the Neutral Eye Palette, and it feels like all Too Faced palettes just have the same feel!
Except the Return of Sexy palette which was so dark, glitter, clubbing esq I couldn’t keep it.
Oh Too Faced, I would love it if they expanded their selection on makeup brushes. The Teddy Bear Hair fibers are pretty sweet in my opinion.

Catherine Avatar

Mine will be here early next week!! Yay!! I love the first release and will love this one also. I use Mac Quick Fix to use on not so pigmented shadows, and will use it on the blue in this palette. It will be beautiful!! Can’t wait!! Thanks for the wonderful pictures of the palette!! <3

Sylirael Avatar

Right. Too Faced – you need to be ashamed of yourself for that blue shade >:-( I didn’t have high hopes for it, and you…er…didn’t disappoint?

The browns look… orange to me. Obviously this palette is not a cool toned one, LOL although Rum Raisin and Puddin’ are colours that appeal to me (pigmentation notwithstanding)! I don’t think I’m the right adventurer for this palette, ;-)! The first one looks a little more ‘neutral’ and versatile in the comparison pic (thanks for that!!).

Alla Avatar

3 Nakeds (5 if you count the minis), 2 Lorac pros, all those lovely neutral quads like Mac’s Pedro Lourenco one and Tom Ford’s Nude Dip….and Too Faced decided that the best thing to do now is release another neutral palette! I was hoping that some other trend would kick off and we would be spared a whole bunch of mediocre neutral palettes, but no, it looks like we’re in for the whole ride.

Muse Avatar

Thanks for the swatches, Christine. Do you know if we can apply any of these colors wet, including the mattes, without affecting the quality/texture of the shadows? That might improve the performance of Blueberry Swirl and Pink Sugar.

Sarah Avatar

I like the colors of the palette, but since beginning in my late 30’s now, I am not attracted to Too Faced eye palettes when I see them in person….. 🙁

Brigette Ramos Avatar

Thank you so much for the swatches <3 I've been dying to see swatches of this palette… Some of the swatches were just blah and not was I was expecting, like the blue shade. boo! Don't know if I'm going to purchase this. If I do, it'll be on a whim…

Brenda Avatar

I don’t have the original Chocolate bar palette and can’t say I have even played around with it at Sephora so I can’t compare the two but I really like this!! I was on the verge of feeling like I have way to many browns and warm neutrals but no, no, I think I need to get this, LOL!!

April Avatar

Honestly, it took me until a few months ago to buy the first. Why? I wasn’t blown away probably because I have the Naked2 and a bunch of others. So I caved. I am in love. The colors are wonderful. However, I was so excited that a second in this was coming out I had high hopes. Unfortunately, judging from the colors and swatches, I am underwhelmed. The blue is the most random color in the set and not highly pigmented. The rest (outside of PB which I love) seem to have an almost similar color in the first. I think they should have stuck with a similar color range as the first. If they go ahead and release a “Dark Chocolate”, they should incorporate back in the purples and even reds/oranges considering I have seen some dark chocolate bars with peppers infused in them as well as cherries and raspberries and if they bring back the blue, do it right the next time – more pigment, less sheer.
