Thanks for the swatches, Christine. I have been going back and forth about getting this palette. Some of the shades don’t look very pigmented. I was hoping that Blueberry shade would be slightly more pigmented too. I am looking forward to your complete review.
No problem, Agata!
Oh dear. Was going to pass on this but the swatches don’t look half bad. I don’t have the first one. I’ll wait on the review *sits on hands* LOL!
LOL!
I REALLY don’t need this palette. Loving Rum Raisin but everything in here looks super dupeable. Does that stop me from wanting it? Of course not.
Is the outside packaging any different than the original?
The palette is thinner, which I will address in the full review!
Sadly, this palette doesn’t look as promising as I’d hoped. (But I guess that’s a good thing for my wallet!)
Aww!
Blueberry Swirl… what the heck? Didn’t they learn from Candied Violet in the first palette? And Pink Sugar is like… nothing.
Huh, not impressed overall. I will probably be an outlier in saying this, but it’s too much matte for me. I only see about 3 truly shimmery shades and shimmer is my jam.
Also, this is so very similar to the last one… swapping out two shades for taupes does not automatically transform this into a cooler palette.
So many people adore the original palette and consider it holy grail. It’s grown on me over time, but I’m just okay on it. I’ve always thought the quality was mediocre. This one appears to be the same deal!
I wish I was more surprised, but I kind of expected that they would give a really faded blue instead :/
Totally agree with you
Shimmery shades look so buttery smooth <3 <3
Wooo!
I need this in my life! The colors are so beautiful and right up my alley
Yay!
Those names are making me hungry, lol. I see a few shades that I like.
Haha!
I’m disappointed in the Blueberry Swirl, but I do love the fact that that actually have matte, warm toned transition shades! That hardly ever happens.
Not surprised that a blue within neutrals is so lacking 🙁
mine will be here tomorrow, excited o add to my collection
Let us know how you like it, Sheri!
This looks so nice (like everything Too Faced) but I’m not that happy for all the matte shades…I guess that if you have the (first) Chocolate Palette, you may miss this one.
They’ll give kind of the same look, though there is only some overlap.
The colours look much better than I thought they would first time I saw the palette on Instagram, honestly. However that blue seems to lack pigmentation! Overall there’s a couple of shades I really, really like (Peanut butter, I’m looking at you!), but having just bought the first one (can’t wait to get back home, get it and play with it) I think I’ll skip on this one. At least for now, because I know myself… haha.
Hope you like the first one!
I gave up on eye shadow palette a long time ago! But this and its predecessor have had so much love from everyone makes me want to give it a go, besides neutrals! 🙂
Do you think you’ll end up caving on one of the Chocolate Bars?
I like the looks of this palette better, but I’m going to pass, again. I don’t know what it is, but these Chocolate Bar palettes haven’t appealed to me, despite all the raves.
Are you a fan of Too Faced’s eyeshadows?
Meh. A lot of the swatches look so so and the colors just don’t make me feel “I need this.” I already have 3 Too Faced Neutral palettes – the original Chocolate Bar (which I absolutely love), the Natural Eye (also love), and Natural at Night (I like it a lot for dates and special events). This palette doesn’t add anything I don’t already have from my other Too Faced neutral palettes (or my bazillion neutral palettes from other brands). And the swatches only look so so.
Sounds like you’re covered!
I think I already know what rating you’re going to give this ಠ_ಠ
We shall see…
Hmmm. I think I like the original better. I think the shades were more varied. Peanut Butter looks nice though, and it is a nice feature to have the names actually printed on the palette.
It is a nice feature!
All the shades look somewhat the same, or is it just my idea?
There are a few similar shades, but mostly they’re not the same.
I love the original chocolate bar palette, but I may pass on this one. It looks way too similar to the first one, and the colors don’t look to be anything new or exciting. I have plenty of neutral palettes (I own all 3 naked palettes, the original Chocolate Bar palette, and Lorac Pro 2), so I think I’ll keep my $50 instead..
You are probably covered with neutrals!
Hmmmmm. The shade selection and color payoff looks disappointing in this iteration of the Chocolate Bar Palette, in my opinion. I think I’ll pass and stick with my original Chocolate Bar, though I’m looking forward to seeing your review!
Hope to post tomorrow!
I ordered this when it launched for VIB Rouge and used my $25 off coupon. Depending on how you review it, I might exchange it for something else. The promotional images made this look a lot different. I definitely think it’s pretty, I’m just not sure I need it.
Hope you can give a test run at least 🙂
FYI, if you exchange it they won’t let you re-use the $25 off.
That is true.. I got burned on one of the Vice palettes that way, 2 I think. They only gave me credit for the amount of money I actually paid after coupon. I exchanged it for a less expensive palette and still had to pay out of pocket. I was NOT a happy camper. I not only protested to the manager I called corporate when I got home, the answer was still the same. Choose wisely if using coupons.
Hmm, this palette is extremely warm toned, and the shades that I hoped would inject a little colour into my looks are really sheer in your swatches. I don’t own the first palette, but I think I like those shades better.
Yep, very warm-toned, which is what they were going for, though the first was rather warm, too.
Skip! Thank you for the quality swatches as all ways,
No prob!
Hi Christine, I have a question- do you swatch these with eyeshadow primer underneath? If so, these eyeshadows don’t look as pigmented as I would like them to be! =/
No, I almost never swatch with eyeshadow primer. The only time I can even recall is in the case of something like Fyrinnae’s loose eyeshadows which are pretty much designed to be used with Pixie Epoxy, but I do that, it is fully disclosed. When a brand markets their eyeshadow formula has richly pigmented and long-wearing, it shouldn’t need a primer! 🙂
Hot Fudge looks amazing, but I caved on the first chocolate bar and sadly, regret it.
Oh no! 🙁
Aww, nuts. The Blueberry Swirl shade I was pining for didn’t work out. The shades look way too similar to the first chocolate bar to justify buying another version. I’m glad Too Faced listened and fixed the packaging issue from the first chocolate bar. If they’re still listening, there needs to be more cool toned palettes, please. =D
ALL THE COOL-TONED PALETTES SPRING CAN HANDLE, PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
Do you have Boudoir Eyes? It is very cool toned. I find the Smokey Eye palette to be cool as well, ditto with Naked Eye.
Also Clinique has gorgeous cool toned eight pans coming.. and warm toned as well there are five or six of them. They are already online and I sweet talked a lady at the counter to sell me two early. I wanted them all, they are really lovely.
Maybe I’m the minority but I really do love this it has just the right amount of copper/golds for me, with my fair warm skin and blue eyes. I also really love all the mattes in the this one. I constantly use the other chocolate bar at least every other day. I really wish it was in stores on the 15th though, I’ll have to stalk Sephora on the 15th in order to get it for Christmas since it really so far is the only makeup related item I want. Can’t wait for your full review Christine!
Happy you’re enjoying it, Kelly!
Christine, you are awesome to get these up so quickly.
Blueberry Swirl is quite different than I thought it would be. It looks more of a steely blue than a teal. Licorice looks better than the swatch from the holiday palette. I’m keen to see your review. I hope it performs as well as the original.
Hopefully!
I really like this palette. The deeper browns are really lovely! The original CB palette was a bit too light for my tastes, but omg, these two together are heaven! And I can still keep my Naked 1, which has just enough difference to make it worthwhile to keep 🙂
Yayy!
This looks like a very mixed bag. And Blueberry Swirl, which looks so pretty in the pan, swatches as a very light blue gray. A skip for me
It is very faded once you use it 🙁
I love the fact that there are a lot more neutrals in this palette. I especially love peanut butter as a transition shade. I’m going to twiddle my thumbs and refuse to get this palette till there is a full review.
Hopefully I’ll have it up soon! I’m off to finish up my review as soon as I reply to comments on this post 🙂
I like the Caramel, Bon Bon and Butter Pecan but not enough to justify buying the whole palette. I’ll stick with getting the original.
Sounds like a plan!
Ordered it today with my VIB Rouge Gift Card, so I only paid half price (Yay!) I went back and forth on the original chocolate bar last year.. it seemed more cool toned on against my yellow/olive complexion. This one seems more up my alley with the warmer tones. Be curious to know what you think!
Nice! 🙂
Wow, the Blueberry Swirl shade looks really lacking, but there are already a few of the neutrals that I love – Rum Raisin, Puddin and Hot Fudge. I’ll have to wait for the dupes since I’m fairly sure I will have dupes for them all.
I’m almost certain you have dupes, LOL! 😉
The chocolate bar palettes haven’t ever been very tempting, I think its because I have the Shadow Bon Bons palette from a few Christmases ago, and the Neutral Eye Palette, and it feels like all Too Faced palettes just have the same feel!
Except the Return of Sexy palette which was so dark, glitter, clubbing esq I couldn’t keep it.
Oh Too Faced, I would love it if they expanded their selection on makeup brushes. The Teddy Bear Hair fibers are pretty sweet in my opinion.
They do have a lot of warmer neutrals!
Mine will be here early next week!! Yay!! I love the first release and will love this one also. I use Mac Quick Fix to use on not so pigmented shadows, and will use it on the blue in this palette. It will be beautiful!! Can’t wait!! Thanks for the wonderful pictures of the palette!! <3
No prob, Catherine!
Right. Too Faced – you need to be ashamed of yourself for that blue shade >:-( I didn’t have high hopes for it, and you…er…didn’t disappoint?
The browns look… orange to me. Obviously this palette is not a cool toned one, LOL although Rum Raisin and Puddin’ are colours that appeal to me (pigmentation notwithstanding)! I don’t think I’m the right adventurer for this palette, ;-)! The first one looks a little more ‘neutral’ and versatile in the comparison pic (thanks for that!!).
Yeah, like you, I didn’t have high hopes for it 🙁
3 Nakeds (5 if you count the minis), 2 Lorac pros, all those lovely neutral quads like Mac’s Pedro Lourenco one and Tom Ford’s Nude Dip….and Too Faced decided that the best thing to do now is release another neutral palette! I was hoping that some other trend would kick off and we would be spared a whole bunch of mediocre neutral palettes, but no, it looks like we’re in for the whole ride.
Since they already had a neutral palette, they definitely could have done something else!
Thanks for the swatches, Christine. Do you know if we can apply any of these colors wet, including the mattes, without affecting the quality/texture of the shadows? That might improve the performance of Blueberry Swirl and Pink Sugar.
I’m not sure. Sometimes TF eyeshadows are wet/dry, but usually they will call it out. You might be able to use some of the shimmery shades damp.
I like the colors of the palette, but since beginning in my late 30’s now, I am not attracted to Too Faced eye palettes when I see them in person….. 🙁
Aww!
I love the deeper shades, but I wish they weren’t scented. Chocolate scents always smell ‘off’ to me.
I wish they weren’t scented either!
I think the first is much more balanced.. this one seems to have way too many similar shades.
Some of them are very close for sure.
Thanks for the swatches Christine. That Blueberry Swirl looked SO promising in the pan, but now that you have swatched it, it is really poorly pigmented and looks nothing like the strong colour I was hoping for. Oh dear!
It’s a sad blue!
Thanks for the swatches!
No prob, Liz!
I can already tell this is a pass for me.
Too warm, I’m guessing!
I do like the warmer shades! I’ll have to see it in person before I decide to get it though 🙂 ty for swatches
Yay!
This palette looks amazing. I can’t wait to pick it up Monday. I note it smells like chocolate.
Enjoy!
The array of browns look nice but I feel like the only one who is TURNED OFF by the chocolate scent. No, thank you. I don’t want my makeup to be heavily fragranced or smell like food.
I don’t like it, but I find it very, very strong and cloying – like I almost cough when I use the palette.
Compared to the original one I don’t find this attractive at all, oh well.
Money saved at least?
Didn’t like the first Chocolate palette , I returned it. This one doesn’t tempt me either.
Bummer!
Thank you so much for the swatches <3 I've been dying to see swatches of this palette… Some of the swatches were just blah and not was I was expecting, like the blue shade. boo! Don't know if I'm going to purchase this. If I do, it'll be on a whim…
My pleasure!
I’ve never been a fan of the chocolate palette packaging personally.
Any particular reason?
hmm i guess original is better or may be will wait for your review 🙂
We shall see!
I don’t have the original Chocolate bar palette and can’t say I have even played around with it at Sephora so I can’t compare the two but I really like this!! I was on the verge of feeling like I have way to many browns and warm neutrals but no, no, I think I need to get this, LOL!!
Haha!
Peanut Butter! <3
🙂
Honestly, it took me until a few months ago to buy the first. Why? I wasn’t blown away probably because I have the Naked2 and a bunch of others. So I caved. I am in love. The colors are wonderful. However, I was so excited that a second in this was coming out I had high hopes. Unfortunately, judging from the colors and swatches, I am underwhelmed. The blue is the most random color in the set and not highly pigmented. The rest (outside of PB which I love) seem to have an almost similar color in the first. I think they should have stuck with a similar color range as the first. If they go ahead and release a “Dark Chocolate”, they should incorporate back in the purples and even reds/oranges considering I have seen some dark chocolate bars with peppers infused in them as well as cherries and raspberries and if they bring back the blue, do it right the next time – more pigment, less sheer.
I wish they had gone REALLY dark or cooler-toned!
I love browns, and I love the original chocolate bar palette so I couldn’t pass this one up! How does rum raisin compare to MAC’s satin taupe?
http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=184048&dupe=105751
It looks to me when she did the swatches she didnt apply a primer that helps intensify the eyeshadow
I don’t use primer when I swatch or when I test when a brand makes claims such as highly pigmented, long-wearing, etc. for their products!
