Tom Ford Erotic & No Vacancy Lip Lacquer Liquid Patent Review, Photos, Swatches
Erotic
Tom Ford Beauty Erotic Lip Lacquer Liquid Patent ($54.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a rich, medium red with cool, blue undertones and a high-shine, glossy finish with barely-there pearl. The formula has a very wet, thin feel going on–cooling in a way–and then quickly develops to a thicker, more gel-like texture that feels plusher on the lips and has light-to-moderate tackiness. The shine lasts incredibly long on this formula, as does the color and the stain that lingers on even beyond that. For me, the shine and color were still noticeable after eight hours (which survived a meal), while the formula was very hydrating and comfortable to wear.

Formula Overview

It's supposed to be a “lip stain with an ultra-glossy finish” that has “intense, vibrant color” and is "long-wearing." The formula feels lightweight, almost watery, when initially applied but thickens and feels more like a moderately tacky gel after thirty to forty seconds. It has great staying power with the glossiness lasting for six hours and the color itself still going strong eight to ten hours later (after two meals and coffee)–by the end of the day, it has more of a natural sheen to it (like a lip stain) but looked even. It did leave behind a stain as well. I often forgot that I was wearing it, as it was just so comfortable, hydrating, and lightweight. The coverage is nearly opaque but has that slight translucency that you would expect to see in a lip stain. I didn’t experience feathering or bleeding on these two shades. It had a sweet, vanilla scent but no discernible taste. The formula reminds me of products like YSL Glossy Stains, Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Lacquer but with a slightly thicker consistency.
As far as I can tell, the formula is the same as the Patent Finish Lip Colors but with a different applicator (doe-foot over a flocked, click-pen), which I felt like deposited more product in a single "layer" than the prior applicator but the colors, texture, and performance were nearly the same. The ingredient lists also seemed to be the same when I tried to read through them line by line. The descriptions from the brand also have the same key words and claims.

No Vacancy
Tom Ford Beauty No Vacancy Lip Lacquer Liquid Patent ($54.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a vibrant, medium red with neutral undertones and a glossy, jelly-like finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer with a thin, watery texture initially that then developed into a plusher, thicker consistency that had light tackiness to it. The color held on exceptionally well to lips for excellent, eight-hour wear (most of that with visible shine) that was comfortable and hydrating while smoothing out my lip lines.

Gorgeous! If liquid patent lips were my thing, I’d be all over these.
I’m very curious to know if the new glosses from Pat McGrath are simular to these ones. Are you going to review Pat’s Blood2?
Hi Christine- I’d love to hear how these compare to the Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Color. It appears there are a lot of duplicate names, and the consistency may be similar. I personally had issues with the Patent Finish Lip Color packaging- it look forever to ‘click’ and start them, and then getting product out would take awhile as well. Do you think this was simply a repackaging?
Please click “formula overview,” where this information is listed!
Well, I’m toast. I’ve just fallen for a $54 lip stain/ lip gloss hybrid! No Vacancy is EXACTLY my type of summer red. Actually, all year long red. An added plus; that 8 hour weartime is utterly phenomenal! November. Sephora sale. Nuff said.
No Vacancy is stunning and I really love your eye look too Christine.
I hope you are having a lovely Mother’s Day with your family Christine.
Hi Christine, I see the dupes list the previous releases of these shades. Has the formula changed or just the delivery system (lip gloss container vs. container with a sponge tip)?
Hi Christine, I see that you pointed another reader to the ‘overview tab’ (I had no idea that tab existed! It clearly answered tbe question I (and another reader) asked. ?
Wow, both of these are amazing looking! i love the vibrancy with the glossy finish.
Hello – thanks for posting such thorough updates regarding new products! Your comments and descriptions are always helpful. One of the reasons I subscribed to your blog was that you post shots of the ingredients listed on packages – extremely helpful for those of us with sensitivities. Your blog is my best source to determine if a product is safe to use before purchasing.
Could you please, though, make those shots a little easier to read? The images posted for the Tom Ford Lip Lacquer Lip Patent are dark enough in one area that it is difficult to see the print.
Thanks!
Hi Catherine,
Unfortunately, that is the best I can do. I altered the lighting to make it as readable as I could, but the print is difficult to read period.
