Tom Ford Commando & Starstruck Lip Sparks Reviews & Swatches
Commando
Tom Ford Beauty Commando Lip Spark ($55.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a soft, light-medium copper with moderate, warm undertones paired with multi-colored pearl (leaned slightly more gold/pink in pearl to my eye) that gave it a high-shine, metallic finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly across my lips.
From the bullet, I didn’t feel the texture from the pearl/sparkle, and of the Lip Spark range, this had finer shimmer/sparkle compared to some shades, which can have a bit more of a glittery feel and look. There was a touch of product that sank into my deeper lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable in person. It wore well for four and a half hours and was hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$56.00/0.1 oz. - $560.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to "look" like "loose glitter on lips" with "uniform payoff" and "multidimensional color" paired with an "emollient" feel. The pigmentation varied from medium to semi-opaque that adhered evenly and fairly smoothly to my lips. The consistency varied from emollient without any grit/texture from the glittery bits to slightly noticeable during application but didn't feel gritty or rough to me while worn (for any of the shades).
The texture had slip but was lightweight and on the thinner side, so it did not feel slippery. Only one shade was problematic--Surge--which clumped up and was sheerer compared to the other shades. They lasted between four and six hours and were lightly hydrating over time. They had a hint of vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Starstruck
Tom Ford Beauty Starstruck Lip Spark ($55.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium, golden bronze with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had medium coverage that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage with a second layer. The color applied fairly evenly with decent distribution of the shimmer/sparkle across my lips, though the differing sizes and thicknesses of the shimmer and sparkle seemed to give a bit more of an uneven finish close-up.
It was definitely one of those products that looked better in person–with light reflecting off the sparkles–than in a close-up photo, which definitely emphasized the individual particles of sparkle more. It also had a shinier finish, which always camouflages minor imperfections. The consistency was lightweight, emollient, and a little slippery, though it was comfortable to apply and had minimal texture when I pressed my lips together. It stayed on well for four hours and was moisturizing while worn.

These are definitely the main two I am most interested in, now to decide. Probably impossible to do so without trying both on to see how each looks on me, I guess? I’m oddly veering towards Starstruck even though it only got a B. It actually looks amazing worn!
I’m REALLY surprised by the drastic improvement in these shades over previous ones in the formula.
I have determined I can typically wear glosses with sparkling finishes, but not lipsticks. I find it works better for me to wear a lipstick and then just put a hint of gloss on top. I pass on the lipsticks, as they never seem to look as good on me as they do on you.
I like the look of Starstruck, but I can’t get over the price in Canadian dollars or the fact that I’ve heard that Tom Ford Lippies go bad fairly fast, so unless I’m going to use it every day it just wouldn’t make sense to me. Now, if I win the the 70 mil lottery tonight then that would be a different story!
To be honest, I am not really impressed with these two shades. For a start, they do look quite similar to each other and sheer in colour. I wish they were more pigmented for the price. They are pretty, but not $US 55 pretty. Here they would retail for over $90…
Starstruck is gorgeous!
I’m oddly very tempted by these; I don’t typically like sparkly or metallic lips but these look so nice on you, Christine! I will definitely check them out at my TF counter.
