The Tempting 10 -- September 2013 Edition

September is the beginning of all things autumn for me. The temperatures have already started to cool down by me, though it’s still warm overall, the nights are cooling down. I’ve always been partial to September, as I am a September baby 🙂 Usually, the real start of fall begins with my first sip of Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte, but they already brought it back (and it was delicious!). By this point, I’ve typically reviewed several fall color collections, which is perfect timing so I can include some of those favorites while they can still be purchased. This month’s Tempting 10 features more recently released shades from the fall collections, but I still wanted to highlight a few favorites that you can find all year-long.

  1. Dior Millenium — a shimmering warm-toned, pewter in a cream formula that can be used as a sheer wash or built up for more intensity.
  2. Sugarpill Cold Chemistry Palette — it is such a perfect mix of deep, smoky shades for fall with excellent color payoff across the board.
  3. Color Club Beyond — a deep, warm, smoky gray-black with holographic shimmer–like ash from a crackling fireplace with dancing, fiery bits of shimmer.
  4. Urban Decay Vice — a rich, plummy purple polish with a soft, shimmering pearl.
  5. Milani Purr-fect Purple — a vibrant, rich purple eyeshadow with shimmer–perfect for accenting the eye!
  6. Tom Ford Love Lust — it’s a warmer, more muted coral, so it’s a lovely transition shade from summer to fall
  7. Guerlain Madame Batifole — creamy, hydrating, incredibly pigmented, and long-wearing makes this a rich, fuchsia-shimmered berry-red a true joy to wear.
  8. Tom Ford She-Wolf — it’s pricey, but not only is it a palette I could easily see myself reaching for time and time again, it was a palette that readers gravitated towards. It was easily one of the most viewed products from all fall color collections!
  9. Benefit Rockateur — a rose gold blush is subtle, wears well, and reminds me of the colors of autumn; rusty in a way, but still warm and inviting.
  10. Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette — ten glorious shades of bold, bright, eye-catching shadows with buttery, soft, and smooth textures and excellent color payoff.

I hope you’ll consider sharing your must-haves for September in the comments! Here’s a quickie list to get you started…

I return to school too, as a teacher and because I’m a substitute teacher, I have to be ready to go at a moment’s notice sometimes so I need quick, easy, long-wearing…

1. Benefit Birthday Suit Creaseless Cream Eye Shadow
2. Either Marcelle BB Cream or Smashbox CC Cream (both have good coverage AND SPF)
3. Stila In the Garden Palette (my current favourite, with BM Power Neutrals right on its tail)
4. Tarte Natural Beauty Amazonian Clay Blush (great colour and lasts all day)
5. Essence All About Matt powder for noon-hour quick touchups to my t-zone OR MAC MSF if I need a bit more coverage over the BB cream
6. MAC Capricious or Brick-o-la lipstick (can’t go wrong with either of those)
7. Revlon Berry Smoothie lip butter (a quick swipe any time, even without access to a mirror)
8. Revlon Moisture Therapy hand cream and B&BW Hand Sanitizer (I teach Food and Nutrition so wash my hands a lot but even when I’m teaching other subject, schools are just germy places)
9. Either GOSH Metallic Brass or Sephora Driving in Malasia pencil liner (both wear really well)
10. La Vanilla Roller Ball fragrance (schools can also be smelly places and I like to smell nice but not be overpowering; roller balls are also small and perfect for carrying in my school bag)

Nail polish isn’t a biggie for me since it won’t last long on my fingernails so I rarely wear it but on my toes, it’s time for Suzi Says Da! (that’s #11 but not really – just an explanation of why no nail polish is on my 10 must haves.

I assume Revlon Rosegold had been discontinued? I’ve never seen it for nearly a year in drugstores… It’s also not at ulta.com.
I can’t even find it in Singapore now, even thought I got my one and only backup there in December…

Sarah Avatar

Just came from Revlon.com, and Rosegold is indeed no longer listed under the color selection; same for drugstore.com. It can be had on Amazon, ebay, etc. I actually ran into this problem when I tried to purchase it after the initial review, which was so helpful (thanks again, Christine!).

I thought my local drugstores were just out of stock; some would have the slot and labeling for the shade on the shelf, but the display would be empty, others would not have the particular shade at all. I finally ended up snagging two of them from a CVS. I bought a backup because I’d had such trouble tracking it down! I’ve seen it very occasionally at the odd drugstore (probably selling out their remaining stock?), but it looks like this shade is no longer part of the official color catalog. Which gives me a sad, as it is lovely! 🙁

Been waiting patiently for Tom Ford She Wolf to become available for order on-line..haven’t a clue if we can even get this line up here in Cannuckville so I always order TF and other hard to find HE lines through the US. This is one of my must haves for Fall. Then I found out about the Tom Ford quad Orchid Haze and had to have that too. My list of brand cosmetics is surprisingly small for Fall/13. I’m concentrating on building up my tools and base products and a lot of these I find I am gravitating to professional lines.

Oh and add NARS oasis and Edward Bess Desert Blossom as perfect Fall blushes.. two of my latest that I love.
