Tom Ford Boys & Girls Lip Colors ($36.00 for 0.07 oz.) have been reviewed! Hurrah! It’s over until the next round o’ Boys & Girls that Tom Ford has around the corner, I’m sure.  I actually think it might be time for a new theme or perhaps a curation of all of the past iterations into a core range of shades.  There were certainly some winners and a few misses across the new shades released this holiday season.  I enjoyed Chadwick, Scott, Kendrick, Jordan, and Jordan the most.

I was most jazzed about Cardi, but it was part of the Lip Color Sheer formula, so it was a let-down since it applied so poorly, and ultimately, the sheer formula doesn’t work as well with this type of shade unless it goes on exceptionally evenly.  Plus, if it’s going to be inspired by Cardi B., it feels like it should have a whole lot more pizzazz, like a sparkly, opaque violet-blue would have been a great fit–you know, Tom Ford’s take on Technopagan (by OCC, one of the world’s great discontinued shades).

Did you pick any of the new Boys & Girls up this season? Do you normally?

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I picked up Jordan because of your review, and because I’ve never had anything from Tom Ford before. It is beautiful and really feels good on the lips. Thank you for reviewing all of these!

There certainly was a range of results from these lipsticks. I am wondering why a HE brand like Tom Ford releases lots and lots of lipsticks, in failrly popular shades instead of 2-4 really stunning and more complex shades. I think the whole Boys and Girls concept now is outdated when it results in inferior products.
Thank you Christine for reviewing all of these – a mammoth task.

I agree 100%. It seems like two years ago, IMO, when the mass release of eye palettes started hitting us at a dizzying pace, lippies came next. I bought the hype. I really went crazy with UD. I was in awe on Christines review of the huge collection…my lips would have dried out with all that swatching.

I tried some TFs too when they were more of a cultivated collection. But I just gave them to my younger cousin. I just didn’t the longevity I expected. My recent Pat Mcgrath purchases surpassed TF and performance was what I had expected from TF.

I think some of these brands are just throwing a bunch of stuff out to keep up. You get hooked on the intitial, cultivated products and then bam…flood the market at a crazy fast pace without much thought.

I now look back and a lot of eye palettes, at least to me did this. I envision now, someone said, we have batches of colors we developed and reviewed/tested…let’s make a palette and market it as limited edition. Same thing with lippies. When at first glance vs the discerning glance you see mass similarities, I suspect this is what is happening with lippies.

One day I might try a TF lipstick but I’m not sure if the price justifies the experience/quality when at least the latter exists on so many affordable tiers in modern cosmetics. First I have to go through my current barely used stack before I can even contemplate the decision I suppose lol.

Also I noticed the description of Li might be Ori’s?

That is very strange – it is going to have to be my web developer that looks into it because the review excerpt is pulled automatically, and I don’t know why it would be wrong.

Amen to EVERYTHING you said about Cardi! This was a very pathetic, weak attempt to “capture” her essence in a B&G’s Lipstick. It fell into huge ‘meh’ territory, and I was truly expecting something so much more special.

As to my personal picks? Li, Jagger, Chadwick, or Helena will be coming home with me sometime this month, I think!

Yes Nancy, I gotta say, I was so ready to get that Cardi shade and so disappointed 🙁 I wanted it to be awesome so bad!

Thank you for reviewing all of these shades, Christine. So far I have only purchased Chadwick but I am pretty sure that Armie and Jordan will find their way home soon!! I love Chadwick although it definitely pulls a little browner on me which normally I wouldn’t care for but in this instance it seems to work. I love the formula, although I have to say, I personally still prefer the PMG formula. The range of colours from TF is obviously broader but hopefully PMG will release a more diverse range of shades, soon!

Tbh I really lost interest in this when it stopped being just Lips and Boys and went to Boys and girls. It just lost something of that edge for me. I’ve never purchased any but I used to want several shades. Now I find it’s 30 shades of boring every year.

Far too overstashed to give TF serious consideration. Picked up Stavros at CCO, as it is fairly unusual. He’s my only boy. ‘course, if he made a Jussi (my boy dachs,) I’d pick it up, whatever the color!

I’ve lost interest in Tom Ford Boy/Girl lipsticks.

Part of the reason has to do with the way the lipsticks look on me as they fade. For the three or four shades that I owned, as the color faded on my lips, they all had the same pink tint left behind, which in my case is unflattering. Stavros was the only exception but when it faded it made my lips gray. The lipstick is drying on me too. I got rid of the Tom Ford ones I had and moved on to other brands.
