The Best & Worst: Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo

Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo
Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo

Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo ($34.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a new, permanent twist-up jumbo lip crayon available in 20 shades. The formula had semi-opaque, buildable coverage with a smooth, creamy, and lightweight consistency. I felt like I could apply a little here, a little there, and then spread the color out by pressing my lips together for sheerer coverage, or I could apply a single layer and get semi-opaque coverage fairly easily. The formula was incredibly comfortable to wear: lightweight, hydrating, and smoothing. Some balm-like formulas that have more coverage can sit in lip lines, but I felt like these filled them and made them look softer for the most part. I didn’t notice any scent or taste.

These just make me smile! I think it is wonderful to see a brand decide to give their shades uplifting, positive names as opposed to trashy, degrading or offensive names. Hopefully, this will catch on with other brands like UD, Tarte, MUG, etc.

It’s also refreshing to see a return to a luminous, comfortable lip! Not that I don’t love my mattes, but hey, enough is enough already. Protector and Activist will be mine! (to start with, hehehhe!)

This is a really good range of lip crayons, with great ratings. Unfortunately, none of the shades are those that I would wear because they are either too pink or too nude. But I can appreciate how others would really like them.
And, as Nancy stated above, the names of the lip crayons are positive ones, unlike the distasteful names we have seen lately from a few brands.

I’m so happy these performed so well. I’m still on a no-buy, but it’s nice to know they’re permanent (for now), so when I break it I can get one. I’m not sure on the “stylo” tip, but I love the shades. And of course THE NAMES! Love!

These look so lovely! Christine, I’ve always admire these each lip swatches you share. They always look so good on you. You’re so lucky! Xx

I have Protector and Activist so far. Protector is a little more purple (out of my comfort zone) than I am used to. As I mentioned earlier, I feel YSL Smoking Plum is a good dupe for Liberator, so I skipped it. I am really liking Activist. I wanted to like Achiever but too brown on me. I am thinking about indulging in Creator or Seeker. I am confident that I already own a couple of dupes for Leader.

This collection has a lot of very light and/or nude-to-brown shades — over 1/2??? Maybe that’s to be expected for the upcoming season, but there’s a lot of people who can’t wear them (or maybe I should say, wear them well). I know I’d look like death-warmed-over. Oh well — they’re Hourglass, so what do I know? But, I’m sure not excited. The cooler shades are too blue-based or too dark for me. Moving along, next? (Lol)

Christine, something amazing has happened here — the top three shades in the line — in fact, four of the top five — are the shades in the line that I want most! Usually the top-performing shades in a line are ones that wouldn’t look good on me, and the shades that would look good on me are much further down the list. I got Protector this week and love it; Icon, Liberator, and Leader are next up 🙂

I got the Inventor shade after your review. I’m OBSESSED. I honestly did not wanna pay $32 for a lip crayon but could not resist that perfectly muted rose. Its also hydrating and applies so easy. It doesn’t last long (just like any lipstick…high end or drug store) but it does leave a nice stain behind which I love.
Fantastic product. I don’t regret one penny.
