Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Vol. 2 Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Rainforest of the Sea Vol. 2
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Vol. 2 Eyeshadow Palette ($36.00 for 0.40 oz.) includes eight shades in a mostly neutral set of hues. The formula is different than the brand’s typical Amazonian Clay eyeshadow, and it is the same as the one used in the original Rainforest of the Sea palette. It is a denser, more cream-like formula that feels firmer in the pan but is fairly blendable on the lid. It applies better to bare skin, as it adheres better and has less powderiness/fallout compared to their standard formula. I didn’t find the ease of use of this palette to be as good as the original, but it was fairly easy to use and apply with most shades having good pigmentation and wear. Just as a note, the formula has a tendency to apply lighter than they look in the pan.
Pearl
Pearl is a soft, warm white with a pearly sheen. It had good color payoff with a smooth, blendable texture that was easy to work with and applied evenly to bare skin. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Conch
Conch is a light beige with a mostly matte finish and subtle, warm undertones. The consistency was dense, firm, and not as easy to work with as the more shimmery shades. This one I felt like I had to push on the pan’s surface rather than sweep or tap at (like I do with most eyeshadows). It blended out decently and alsted for seven and a half hours.

Sunset
Sunset is a light-medium gold with warm, orange undertones and a metallic finish. The pigmentation was opaque, while the consistency was smooth, cream-like, and denser but still blendable on the skin and easy to pick up with a brush.

Marina
Marina is a muted, medium golden brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly, but I found it a little harder to diffuse the edges evenly. The texture was smooth, dense, and cream-like but lacked the thickness of the shimmer shades, as it went on much thinner (even though it still felt rather dense in the pan). This shade lasted for eight hours before fading on me.

Seaside
Seaside is a medium-dark brown with warm, red undertones and a satin finish. It had intense color payoff with a smooth consistency that wasn’t so dense that it was hard to blend out or apply to bare skin with your standard eyeshadow brush. I noticed fading after eight hours of wear.

Siren
Siren is a deep burgundy-brown with subtle, red undertones and a semi-matte finish. The eyeshadow was nicely pigmented with a fairly blendable texture that adhered well to bare skin. The issue I had with it was that the color looked a bit patchy along the edges when I tried to blend it out, so I really had to buff the edges to make them more diffused. I was able to wear this shade for eight and a half hours.

(+/-): Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), titanium dioxide (CI 77891), ultramarines (CI 77007).
Breezy
Breezy is a medium-dark taupe that leans grayer and has a frosted finish. The color coverage was mostly opaque, while the texture was smoother and thicker than most powder eyeshadows, but it was more loosely packed in the pan compared to the other shades in this palette. It did not seem powdery or dusty, though, but it was the type of texture that applied best by patting and packing on the lid, rather than sweeping. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Riptide
Riptide is a deep, bluish black with multi-colored micro-shimmer that gave it a more pearl-like sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, dense texture that applied evenly to bare skin and did not lose its depth over time. It was fairly blendable when I worked with it, but it wasn’t quite as effortless as I’ve seen this formula be in the past. This shade lasted for eight hours before creasing on me.

I plan to play with this palette this weekend! I so loved the first one; and it’s the only Tarte eyeshadow formula that I love.
Let me know how you like it, Agona!
Well rats cats, I love this but have too many similar shades! Might have hit that odd plateau where this begins to become more problematic. The only catch being that mine are scattered around my stash instead of one convenient, nice, tidy little space.
If you depot all the things, then they’d be in a tidy little space, lol!
the shade riptide is beautiful. this palette has a nice color selection but i would prefer the color payoff to be stronger .
Totally understand!
As much as I have wanted one of these for the design, I swatch and you are so right that they are lighter than they look in the pan. I’m pretty dark and already have a ton of basic light applying makeup already…bummer
It’s surprising, isn’t it? Sometimes really shimmery shades can go lighter based on how they reflect/catch the light, but I don’t usually see it with mattes!
What a beautiful neutral palette! I think I’m in love – may have to check this out at Sephora!
Hope you can test it, Stephanie!
Because I’m pale-skinned, I actually like that the shades are lighter than they appear in pan. I can see how it would be disappointing to people with darker skin tones who were hoping for a version of ROTS they could wear. I really love the first ROTS Palette and wear it a lot more than I anticipated when I bought it, so I’m considering this one.
I don’t mind the way they turn out, but it is always interesting when something swatches/applies different, lol!
Looks like this will make a nice travel palette that can easily go from day to night looks
It would!
I do appreciate these colors, but I have to agree that the light color pay-off is a bit of a deterrent.
It definitely means you have to think twice about how they appear!
I generally like this little palette, the shades are well co-ordinated and they are perfect for everyday use. A pretty good rating for Tarte as well and a lovely eye look Christine.
They do work well together!
Thank you, Genevieve!
The quality looks pretty good for Tarte, but the shade selection is so uneventful…
‘Tis true – the same type of shades they normally release!
These shades don’t compel me to buy for some reason.
I bet you have dupes in your stash! 🙂
Christine do you think the palette would work on nc43 to do a smokey look, or do you think it would apply too light/sheer?
I think it could work, but I also think there are better palettes out there for your skin tone!
Breezy and Riptide are lovely.
