Tarte Hangry Tarteist Lip Paint
Tarte Hangry Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a s lightly muted, dark plum with subtle, warmer undertones and a natural shine. It had semi-opaque color payoff and crumbly bits of darker color strewn through the consistency–almost like unmixed pigment, even though it was a runnier consistency overall. This one really settled really noticeably into lip lines after an hour or two of wear. It also had shorter wear at four hours overall, despite the darker hue. It was slightly drying overall. Tarte Manbun Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a dark burgundy-brown warm, red undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that went on fairly evenly. The consistency was slightly thicker, more mousse-like compared to some of the shades in the range. The texture felt “drier”– almost powdery/chalky–but not uncomfortable initially. When I wore it, the color lasted for four and a half hours and left a slight stain behind, but it was somewhat drying overall (less drying than your average liquid matte). Marc Jacobs Beauty Bad Behavior (LE, $30.00) is darker (95% similar). Anastasia Brandy (P, $18.00) is darker, cooler (95% similar). MAC Runner (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Frenemy Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is deep burgundy with warm undertones and a luminous finish. This was one of the more liquid-like shades, and it had a lot of shine that took two to three hours to wear down to more of a satin-like finish. It had fairly opaque color payoff that applied evenly overall, though there were a few areas where the color seemed to slip around. There is a lot of transfer with this one, and the wear time was around five and a half hours with some staining. It was slightly drying but was one of the least drying in the range. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Anita (DC, $18.00) is glossier (95% similar). ColourPop Prim (P, $7.00) is less glossy (95% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a pigmented, matte liquid lipstick that’s long-wearing. First thing to note is that these never fully dry down, so they are not transfer-proof, but they are less drying than the typical liquid lipstick that dries down completely. They are quite pigmented and despite transferring onto cups, while you eat, and so forth, a lot of the color is left behind. You can also touch-up without having to completely remove the formula. The texture is inconsistent; some shades are thin and have a soft shine even after ten minutes of wear, while others are almost mousse-like in the tube, and these ones tend to be more matte from the get-go. There is a very subtle mint scent, but I don’t notice it at all once it is on. I do notice that it is easier to get these on the teeth than other lip products. The formula is lightly to moderately drying over time, but it is long-wearing with most shades ranging between five and seven hours of wear. The majority are satin to semi-matte with a little sheen, which you can either blot once for a matte finish or wait about an hour or two for it to naturally mattify (like any satin finish really).

I’m both sad, but relieved I’m seeing the ones with formula issues.
I’ll be curious to see if shades are consistently bad or if there is a wider variance within a single shade.
Wow, your face looks flawless!! I tried a sample of that Make Up Forever HD foundation, and sadly, it did nothing for me 🙁 Very interesting how the formula varies so much by shade. I love all 3 colors but have lots of dupes already. But I might have to get ManBun –the name is horrible but kind of funny, and it leaves a stain behind, so might last on me, as I’m always sipping tea and water
I think the new Ultra HD photographs better than it looks in person!
Christine, when it comes to these liquid formulas that DO NOT dry down (Tarte, Too Faced melted, OCC, etc), which do you think is best?
Melted is the most comfortable but thickest overall (so it may slide around too much for some – it is more like a lipstick/gloss hybrid to me). OCC wears longer but can be a little drier than Tarte, but OCC is more consistent for me so I’d say OCC between OCC and Tarte!
LOL, are they browsing my sister’s twitter feed for these names?
It does seem to be a list of 2015’s top slang terms for millennials!
I love the looks of Manbun and Frenemy, but I think I’ll stick with TF Chocolate Cherries, considering I don’t think I could say the word Frenemy outloud and take myself seriously. 😉
I totally understand 🙂
Too bad about Hangry being crumbly. It’s a lovely color.
It was so weird, lol!
These shades look gorgeous. Just when I thought I would grow weary of the liquid lipstick trend (OCC Lip Tars are still the gold standard for me) Tarte impresses me.
They created some nice colors in this range!
All I can say is: Thank goodness I have MAC Deep Love! Because there is no way in Hades that I would put myself in the quandary of someone asking me what lipstick I have on, and having to say Manbun! LoL! And with my multiple deep burgundies and plums, I won’t be buying something with the equally embarrassing name of Hangry, which ironically is a name that does describe me when my sugar freefalls! These names are too juvenile!
There ya go! 😉
I ordered Hangry and FOMO (VIB rouge exclusive) The wear on Hangry was disappointing however I really loved the color it was slightly unique compared to all the berry colors out there that have been very popular. FOMO’s color pay off was consistent and such a pretty color. I initially just wanted to return Hangry but after I thought about it I was just not satisfied with this formula. I truly love the precision and clean cut look of a liquid lipstick but I can achieve that with lipliner when using a tube lipstick however this was just still just sloppy looking. Very disappointed in the formula especially when they came out with GREAT color variety.
Did you end up returning both Hangry and Fomo or just Hangry?
Darn, I wanted Hangry to be better!
I think we all did! 🙁
I know this has nothing to do with quality or performance but I can’t wrap my head around clay being in each product.
These deep colors look great on you but would be too dark for me.
Thank you, Susan!
Uggggghhhhh. Darn it.
Hangry was the one I was looking forward to the most out of the whole set.
Awwwww!
I picked up frenemy recently and I seriously got three compliments and two of them asking what it was and where I got it! It’s my new favorite lip!
Very nice!
