Cruisin'
Tarte Cruisin’ Color Splash Hydrating Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with just a touch more product layered on top. The lipstick was creamy, lightweight but not too thin, and comfortable to wear. This shade wore well for over six hours and was moisturizing over time.
The formula is supposed to be “long-wearing,” “full coverage,” and hydrating. The consistency has an incredibly smooth, creamy feel to it and has enough substance and thickness to it that it adheres well to the lips and usually doesn’t pull into lip lines. I felt like the formula felt slightly more emollient initially and “dried” a bit to more of a satin-to-cream finish after a few minutes (but not a true dry down, as it wasn’t transfer-resistant!). The majority of shades were very pigmented, easy to apply, comfortable to wear with light to moderate hydration over time, and lasted between four and seven hours on me. A few of the lightest and darkest shades weren’t as pigmented or were less flattering on the lips compared to more of the medium shades. There did not seem to be any added fragrance to it (smelled slightly waxy), and I didn’t notice any taste.

Popsicle
Tarte Popsicle Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia-berry with cool undertones and fine violet and fuchsia pearl. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer, though the color did apply evenly and smoothly, so it was still wearable on its own but a liner would be necessary for full coverage as it did not build up much. The consistency was smooth, creamy without being heavy, and easy to work with on the lips. It lasted for six and a half hours, left a subtle, pinkish stain behind, and was moisturizing.

Miami Vice
Tarte Miami Vice Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark red with cool, blue undertones and a natural sheen. It had good pigmentation, though it was not quite opaque, and while I expected it to be buildable, it never seemed to quite get there for me. The texture was slightly more emollient than other shades, which gave it an almost stain-like quality in its finish. It applied evenly and smoothly, and the wear time was impressive at nearly seven hours. There was a stain left behind, and the formula was hydrating to me.

This ROTS color splash collection is fabulous! I had all but written Tarte off. Gotta check these out.
It has been!
Well, I looked at big s today, and the end cap new ROTS colors (not this batch on your review) were all brown on me…the salt life, etc. bunch.). Only beach waves was ok swatched. On me, it’s king of grayed. I cannot believe how differently l/s look on you versus me. Lesson learned. Swatch ’em all. The Basquiat was borderline bizarre! Thought they had put a wrong color in the tube, when I tried it on at home. When I finally got BB Bond, same thing. Brighter and cheerier on you….But I get purple out of Deep Rooted, lol. Maybe this group is Ulta, rather than Sephora. I wish I had an inner translation ability to know, based on you, how s.t. would look on me. Tried and failed at that!
Argh! I feel like that’s one of the hardest parts about some of those neutral shades – the undertones can make a huge difference!
I really like Cruisin’, just gotta check if I have any dupes in my collection. Hopefully not!
Here’s hoping! 🙂
Popsicle looks like raspberry jam! Another perfect shade for summer. On my WL!
And, of course, at some point, I must get Miami Vice. Because I watched that show religiously during the 80’s, and the slightly translucent, stained look of this red is actually rather appealing!
Raspberry jam – my favorite type 😉
Gorgeous shades! It’s nice to know Tarte can still do color.
It is! 🙂 I think this might be my favorite lip formula by them, ever.
There’s something about the Tarte Color Splash collection that just doesn’t appeal to me and I think its the finish. The close up pictures of the finish look good, but from a distance not so much. I have a few of the nude ones and never reach for them. With so many gorgeous lipsticks tempting me out there these days I am grateful there’s something I don’t like!
Phew! Money saved!
Loving them all. I have Firebird so I probably don’t need Popsicle. Cruisin might be a good choice though.
You can totally skip Popsicle if you have Firebird!
UGH I need all three of these. I really need to sit down and look at all of your swatches and seriously pair it down to two of these to get!
Good luck getting it down to two! xo
Miami Vice is a gorgeous red shade. Tarte’s new lipstick range is really hitting the spot.
They did a great job on this range!
Uh oh, I’ve been looking for a color like Cruisin’ for a while!
I hope it fits the bill when you get a chance to check it out in person!
I love the soft plum and bright pink of Cruisin’ and Popsicle, no wonder I already have a dupe in Mac Captive though it pulls browner and warmer on my pink lips (which is disappointing since I love the mauve/plum tones), and UD Firebird ? lol.
You are covered 😀
