What part of your makeup routine do you enjoy the most?

What part of your makeup routine do you enjoy the most?

I love eye makeup! I love playing with color combos and finishes, so that’s the part of my routine that I definitely look forward to. It’s close, though, to the moment where everything comes together in a complete look.

What was the last beauty product that exceeded your expectations?

What was the last beauty product that exceeded your expectations?

I schedule the QOTD posts 1-2 weeks in advance, so this answer is coming to you written on 2/9 technically… but the Marc Jacobs Steel(etto) palette, which is a cooler toned, more taupe-leaning palette… and performed incredibly well!!

Do you ever have trouble using limited edition products?

Do you ever have trouble using limited edition products?

I don’t; if you don’t use it, what’s the point? If you’re not using it, then its purpose has to be something other than just sitting in a drawer — it should be displayed or used in some other way. I’ve learned over the years that there’s always another product that’ll catch my fancy,...

What type of light do you use to apply your makeup in? What do you prefer?

What type of light do you use to apply your makeup in? What do you prefer?

I have some natural light that comes in through two windows, but they’re the opposite side of my vanity in a larger room, so I rely more on a simplehuman magnifying mirror and recessed lighting, all of which have light that mimics daylight (white light but not too cool-toned).

Do you feel primer is an essential part of your routine?

Do you feel primer is an essential part of your routine?

Since I test without primer, I’m really used to NOT using it or relying on it, but I’m inside most of the day, and my coworker is my husband, so looking 100% polished from 6AM to 10PM isn’t necessary either. I think using primers is a good step for ensuring the canvas you start with is...

Do you purchase backups? Why/why not?

Do you purchase backups? Why/why not?

For staple products, like brow gel, mascara, moisturizer, and the like, I’ll purchase a backup if I’m running low (and intend to keep using it) or if there’s a particularly good sale. I try not to buy too many backups of products in general, and when I do, I try to limit it to just one (unless...

Do other people’s opinions on your makeup influence you at all?

At this point, minimally if at all–often more in the vein that if someone says something negative, that comment might pop back into my brain next time I use that product/do something similar with my makeup. Being on the internet for so long teaches you that you have to find a way to get past the...

Do you use look books or how-tos included with products?

I don’t! I’ll read instructions, especially for new/different products or skincare, but how-tos on use an eyeshadow palette I don’t bother to flip through.

What’s one product you often forget to use?

What’s one product you often forget to use?

Concealer! Unless I have acne that I want to conceal, I very, very often forget to use it. I’ve made a concerted effort to use concealer more often, and I’ve been better about it!

Should brands bring back limited edition products?

Should brands bring back limited edition products?

Overall, yes, but it should be done carefully, and it should definitely not feel like a cash grab. I like when brands will add a previously-limited edition item into their permanent range *because* it was so popular vs. manufacturing more and selling it as another limited release.
