Rhythm

Sydney Grace Rhythm Highlighter ($12.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a light-medium, peachy beige with soft, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had rich, opaque pigmentation, where a little went a long way so I’d recommend using a lighter hand with this shade if you tend to like your highlighters sheerer or more buildable. The consistency was smooth, creamy, and dense without being too firmly-pressed in the pan. The highlighter applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even application that blended out easily along the edges. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me before fading a bit.

Formula Overview

$9.00/0.25 oz. - $36.00 Per Ounce

The highlighters are supposed to be "smooth and pigmented" that "blend like a dream" and "last all day long." The majority of the shades in the range are incredibly pigmented with a creaminess to the texture that makes them a cinch to apply and blend out on my skin.

I was most impressed by how soft, almost cream-like the powders were, yet they weren't too loosely-pressed nor were they prone to powderiness. Some of the finishes are very metallic or frosted, so when worn at semi-opaque or higher coverage levels, they can emphasize my skin's natural texture slightly. They have worn between eight and nine hours on me.

Oh – all fixed now! I’m not surprised this rated an A! Look how it stacks up against products costing 4 or 5 times the price! Whoever said (the other week) that you’ve just become a “stooge” (can’t really think of another word just now) for Sydney Grace really owes you an apology (and deserves a figurative slap!)

You always look amazing but that shade is pretty much perfect for you, it just blends so beautifully into your skin! 😀

I am due to get my very first (ha ha, note the qualifier there!) SG order tomorrow and I CANNOT WAIT. This one is also going on my wishlist, LOL.

I have a Sydney Grace eyeshadow comment/question…sorry for putting it under the highlighter review but I wasn’t sure if you’d see it if I went back to your last SG eyeshadow review. I purchased several mattes based on the reviews and colors I cannot find elsewhere. I use Hakuhodo brushes and have tried primer set and unset, Mac paint pots, smudged UD eyeliners as a base and etc., and cannot get the eyeshadows to stay. They apply and blend beautifully (I like a diffused/blown out look) but within a few hours they are gone. My favorite mattes are the previous versions of MUFE (round pan) and the 12 pan Viseart-I’ve hit pan on several shades but SG has colors these brands do not produce. Any advice? Perhaps some shadows just don’t work for some people? I want them to work so bad!

Hey Bonnie!

All comments are seen by me, since they require approval first 🙂 I didn’t use any primer with the Sydney Grace eyeshadows to test (same as I do with other eyeshadows), but they were fine over Smashbox/MAC 24HR primers for me when I’ve tried them over that. Some of the very shimmery shades creased on me after 8-9 hours (as noted) without primer! It sounds like you’ve already tried a lot of things? 🙁 The only thing I can think of is maybe try them alone, try dusting translucent powder on your lid first, or layering a primer under a MAC Paint Pot.

Thanks so much for the reply Christine! I tried a Paint Pot today and am having better luck but still not the best so I’ll keep playing. I’m thinking maybe it’s my skin. Interesting how make up does this! I appreciate your work so very much.

Sometimes our bodies are just weird – I had an issue with makeup on my left eye creasing really badly for MONTHS, my right eye was mostly OK but I hadn’t changed any of my skincare, I rotated through several primers, giving them extra time to dry, setting them with powder, etc, I tried everything I could think of to resolve it and nothing worked… and then one day it just went away as suddenly as it had appeared.

Have you compared ingredient lists between SG and other brands that work for you to see if there is something that is significantly different? Or you could try layering them over a matte skintone shade?

Good luck!

Bonnie Avatar

Hi CeeBee-
I compared ingredients with Viseart Dark Mattes as that’s the closest to the colors and texture (greens, mustards and all mattes) that I purchased from SG. First look comparison shows a significant difference (at least to my untrained self) in formula so that’s probably why it I haven’t found it to work for me yet. I just love the colors though so I think I’ll mix them with some isododecane and paint them on. I want these color to stick! Hahahahahaha

I love this highlighter shade, it could almost be a light blush too. Very pretty. And I really like how you are presenting all the SG eyeshadows and highlighters, a brand that I would never have known about. They have such great quality products.
This highlighter is perfect, especially for the price.
