Sydney Grace Gray (Light) Mystery Bag (2020) Review & Swatches
Gray (Light)
Sydney Grace Gray (Light) Mystery Bag (2020) ($25.00 for 0.89 oz.) contains five eyeshadows (three mattes, two shimmers), one pressed blush, one loose highlighter, and one loose glitter. All of the products were pigmented, blendable, and longer-wearing and performed consistently with the brand’s formulations for past shades.
This is the Light version of the bag, and I don’t have the Deep version, so I am not sure what is different between the two bags exactly at this time. I did purchase it yesterday, so we shall see later on!
FYI, I did not review the loose glitter as it is pure loose glitter and has no real characteristics (e.g. pigmentation, adhesion, longevity, etc.) without being used with another product (adhesive base).

Stiletto
Stiletto is a medium-dark pink with subtle, lighter pink pearl that seemed to be a bit cooler-toned and gave it a satiny sheen. When applied, the color appeared a bit darker and more of a warmer pink overall. The texture was soft, silky, and finely-milled with minimal powderiness in the pan.
It had rich color coverage that applied evenly and blended out well along the edges. This shade stayed on well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Formula Overview
$9.00/0.25 oz. - $36.00 Per Ounce
It's a more pigmented blush, so it favors those who need or want richer coverage achieved with less product or in one layer, but those who prefer sheerer, more buildable blush may find there is a learning curve. The formula was very blendable and easy to work with, so I think it is more forgiving, particularly shades with some shimmer in them. The matte shades can be slightly powdery but do not look dry or dusty when applied, though they can darken a bit if not applied over drier or more matte skin (or a base). They wore between eight and 10 hours on me before fading noticeably.

Black Tie
Black Tie is a bright lavender with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a soft, finely-milled consistency that had enough weight to it to prevent the loose powder from flying everywhere.
The highlighter applied evenly to bare skin and blended out with ease. It wore nicely for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Happy Accident is a bright, silvery lavender with cooler undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow had excellent pigmentation that adhered well to bare skin and blended out well along the edges.
The consistency was smooth, creamy, and dense without being overly thick or too firmly-pressed into the pan. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

The shimmer eyeshadows are more consistent in pigmentation with the majority of shades having opaque color coverage. The more metallic/sparkly the shade is, the creamier and more emollient the eyeshadow felt in the pan, which often yielded really smooth application and good adherence to the lid, though a few worked better with a fingertip or a dampened brush for true-to-pan color or to get a truer finish/sheen.
Most shades, however, worked well with brushes, and I didn't have trouble applying or blending out most of the shimmer shades. The more satin to pearl like finishes tend to feel a little thinner but blend out well. These shades wore between eight and nine hours on me with some of the more foiled-like shades creasing noticeably at the end (and the less foiled-like ones fading).

The matte eyeshadows tend to be pigmented (typically semi-opaque or opaque, often buildable if they aren't opaque) with a soft, more velvety texture that has slight slip but isn't so thick that it gets difficult to use, applies unevenly, or has a lot of fallout. I've found that most of the matte eyeshadows apply and blend out without much effort but a few may take a bit more effort to diffuse along the edges. The matte formula tends to wear between eight and eight and a half hours on me.

To the Nines is a deep gray with neutral undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out with ease.
The texture wasn’t too soft nor too firm, so it picked up well with a brush but wasn’t powdery and could be built up if preferred. The eyeshadow lasted nicely for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Tuxedo is a blackened gray with subtle, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. Pretty well stocked in SG, but I usually think the bags will be duplicating stash. But, boy, this really IS cool and gray and different. And I really like it!
My heart doth soar! I bought this yesterday. The blush is warmer than I’d hoped for but I know I’ll get good use out of it as I wanted a muted blush anyway. I’m so excited to try these out! How did you find the highlighter’s emphasis on skin texture to be? It looks nice in the picture!
If it doesn’t say it emphasized, you can assume it did not – if it DID emphasize, I’d have noted it in the review specifically! 🙂
Good to know, thank you!
In a way it reminds me of Millennial Pinx. I love this and I really can’t wait to get it. I blind bought it yesterday hoping for the best. I’m more than pleasantly surprised!
I did the same thing earlier today and just saw Christine’s review so I’m really happy that I don’t already own anything in this pack. I’m excited to get mine!
Totally ordered this yesterday and now I’m SO excited because it’s beautiful! I also ordered the lighter version of the bright mystery bag. YAY! Thank you for sharing the review/swatches/look. It’s right up my alley. (I bought Purple Sky, too…and some other singles). Nice to know that this doesn’t overlap with existing shades.
I grabbed all three light mystery bags yesterday. The lavender in this bag looks so pretty, and I love the cheek products.
Okay, so I already know that I won’t be buying this bundle, HOWEVER, I do hope that Sydney Grace makes both the gorgeous blush and Happy Accident eyeshadow part of her permanent line! That is the icy lavender eyeshadow of my dreams!
SG has a cream shadow, Glory, that’s an icy lavender and a metallic pressed shadow, Mythical, that’s a grey lavender. If they don’t make Happy Accident permanent, you may like Storm by Give Me Glow. It’s a stunning silvery lavender.
Wooohoo!!!! I snagged the mystery bag yesterday, without knowing what was in there. So thrilled with the colors and quality!!! I’ve actually been looking for a pink blush and purple highlighter like that. And Happy Accident and Storm Cloud -eeek!!! I love how all the colors tie together, to complete a look.
I hadn’t seen your review when I ordered this pack today but I’m really excited to get it now! I own a lot of Sydney Grace’s cool toned shadows but none of these and I’ve never tried the blushes. Although I won’t use the glitter and the highlight is too dark, I can use it as a blush topper and I’ll definitely use all the shadows. I don’t buy mystery boxes anymore because I never got anything that I’d actually use but I took a chance on this one and I’m so glad I did. Thank you for showing what’s in it!!
I’m glad I took a chance on this & bought it yesterday! I wish there was only one dark gray matte & there was a different cool matte. But I don’t have any dark gray mattes in my collection, so I’m not too disappointed!
I love Storm Cloud and Happy Accident, but I am not quite sure why the brand had to put in two black shades that are so similar to each other. A deep plummy shade would have been a beautiful addition. But it is all of excellent quality and it’s lovely that the brand has differentiated between light and deep, warm and cool tones.
I know I’m the outlier, but I’m disappointed by this. As someone who loves smokey eyes and wears colorful smokey eyes at least once a week, I still have to ask why do so many brands associate cool toned as “smokey eye?” I would have loved to have seen cool browns and especially taupes in there too. Those shades are so hard to find I would have grabbed one even though I prefer palettes.
The bag is actually called Gray, I stupidly wrote cool!
That wasn’t stupid Christine, it is called “Cool (Grey Bag)” on her website!
The other options are
Deep (Gray Bag)
Colorful (Fuchsia Bag)
Colorful – Deep (Fuchsia Bag)
Warm (Peach Bag)
Warm – Deep (Peach Bag)
Oh, thanks for the review on this, Christine! I bought it sight unseen, and it looks nice, except I think those last two eye shadows will look almost identical on the eyes.
Thanks so much for reviewing this and all of the extra Sydney Grace Posts you’ve done to help us with her sale 🙂
So I got my bags today, and my light gray bag had some different shadows than you have here. I got Glitz & Glamour instead of Happy Accident (appears more silver, less purple) and Boss Babe instead of To the Nines ( looks lighter gray). I am kind of sad I didn’t get Happy Accident as that was the shade I was most excited for, but that’s part of the risk of a mystery bag I suppose.
Hmm, wondering if you got the deep bag, though my deep bag didn’t have Glitz and Glamour, but it had Boss Babe instead of Success…
Heya! I revisited this review out of curiosity after noticing my light-gray bag contained Boss Babe, and not To The Nines. Otherwise my products completely match the lineup in this post. Just if you were curious! Now I want to know what Glitz & Glamour looks like.
I got the light face products.? I’m guessing there was just some variance in the bags since they were “mystery” bags. Here’s hoping Happy Accident becomes a single because I was really excited for that shade. Glitz & Glamour is pretty too though.
I got Boss Babe instead of To the Nines, and Glitz and Glamor instead of Happy Accident. I’m disappointed by this. I wanted Happy Accident the most.
Me too.?
Yes the same thing happened to me… it happened in 2 of the 3 mystery bags that I bought. I get it that they call them mystery bags, but when everyone goes online in advance to show what’s in it (like the warm bags), I expected them to be the same. Does anyone know if this happens every year or was it some change? The whole reason I got this bag was because of Happy Accident and the highlight and I was really disappointed when I just opened the box I received today 🙁 For the warm mystery bag I got the dark option because the light blush was SO light and they did not send me Georgia Peach I instead for a very dark blush. Which is great for everyone who ordered the dark and wanted dark shades. But maybe they should have announced that they were making a change to what everyone else posted was in those bags…
