Surratt Beauty Cultive Prismatique Lips
Surratt Beauty Prismatique Lips ($36.00 for 0.08 oz.) is supposed to give “sheer, glistening shine” and color with a “moisturizing” formula that “glides on effortlessly.” The formula is sometimes pearly, sometimes even glittery, and though it isn’t gritty, I can certainly feel the distinctive texture of the sparkle/glitter as I apply the lipstick with some shades. They have a lot of slip, and they have very little wear time–one to two hours–when it comes to the “color” of them (they are supposed to be sheer, and they are; one doesn’t need every shade) and then the glitter slides around for another hour. Some of the glitter travels past the lip line. The formula is lightly hydrating, comfortable to wear, and definitely catches the light in a pretty way, but the wear time, traveling glitter, and streaky/settling color were all disappointing. I think these would have been better as glosses. They were designed to be worn alone or layered, though the emollient texture didn’t play well with all lipsticks (particularly anything in the satin or matte family). I didn’t notice any scent/taste.
Surratt Beauty Cultive Prismatique Lips ($36.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a light-medium, lavender purple with warmer undertones and lighter lavender and gold micro-shimmer. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a lightweight, emollient texture that had some streaking as it applied. I didn’t feel the sparkle in this one as it seemed more refined–this one was more pearly than glittery. It lasted for two hours on me and was lightly hydrating, but the color does gather in lip lines. MAC Glamour of Punk (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Isamaya (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty Opal (LE, $26.00) is less pigmented (90% similar). Sephora Werk It (69) (P, $8.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Olivier (LE, $36.00) is less shimmery, lighter, more pigmented (85% similar). MAC Pick Me, Pick Me (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Dior Diorstellaire (595) (P, $37.00) is lighter, cooler, glossier (85% similar). Too Faced Unicorn Tears (DC, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker, more pigmented (85% similar). NYX Castle (P, $4.00) is less shimmery, darker, more pigmented (80% similar). MAC Sugar Cookies (LE, $17.50) is more shimmery, cooler (80% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Malik (DC, $36.00) is darker, more pigmented, cooler (80% similar). Surratt Beauty Diamantee Prismatique Lips ($36.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a translucent, slightly warmer base with warmer gold and white shimmer and sparkle. It had a moderate amount of shimmer with a few bits I could feel as I applied, but the glitter sat well on the lips and distributed evenly. The shine lasted an hour, the glitter traveled outside of the lips after two hours. MAC Smash Hit (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Burberry Gold No. 217 (LE, $33.00) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Tower 1 (LE, $18.00) is more shimmery (85% similar). Too Faced Angel Tears (LE, $22.00) is cooler (85% similar). Guerlain Sous Le Vent (DC, $35.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Surratt Beauty Lame Prismatique Lips ($36.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a pale gold with a lot of gold sparkle and pearl. It’s very, very sheer but has more glitter than a few of the other shades I tried. On that note, it was also more noticeably glittery in the tube and felt a little rough being applied (as you might expect a glittery lipstick to feel). The glossiness lasted maybe an hour, while the glitter hung around for two and a half hours. The glitter didn’t distribute as evenly when applied, and it did travel while worn. KVD Beauty Thunderstruck (P, $22.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Guerlain Altoum (DC, $35.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty Gold (LE, $26.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Guerlain #777 (P, $36.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Solar Gold (LE, $49.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Liquid Lurex (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Trick (DC, $18.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Urban Decay 3rd Degree (P, $18.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Beige Dore (126) (LE, $37.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty David (DC, $36.00) is less shimmery, less glossy (85% similar). MAC Spoiled Fabulous (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, cooler (85% similar). Guerlain Yellow It-stick (603) (DC, $37.00) is less shimmery (85% similar). MAC Metalwork (LE, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC All I Want (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker, more pigmented (80% similar). NARS Redemption (LE, $29.00) is darker, less glossy (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I appreciate the idea of a glitter/shimmer gloss in a lipstick, but these are extremely sheer for that kind of finish/look. Where did the shimmer go!
I like the concept as well, but it just seems to fall short across the board 🙁
This is a WTF product for me at that price point. They look nice, but I’ve gotten the same exact effect from products at a third of the price.
I’m sure there are plenty of dupes!
These are really pretty! I wonder why they didn’t put them into the gloss formula?!!!! Any opinion on how they would do layered over a lipstick or liner? Do you think they would last longer?
They wear longer if the underlying product you put on wear longer, but they have enough slip that I think they will shorten the overall wear – say your lipstick wears 6 hours on its own, this might make it wear 3-4 hours instead.
Oh, I think I’ll pass then. Thanks for saving me some $!
For the price, I’ll stick with glitter lipglosses as my toppers. These sound like they’d be very aggravating to wear.
I think lipglosses are easy to layer than these as well!
Yep, totally agree, these should’ve been glosses. I don’t think they look great as lipsticks, and they don’t seem to make great toppers over other lipsticks either, a total miss
They would be easier to layer in a gloss format, I think.
I like the idea of these, especially Cultive, but definitely agree that they probably would have been better as glosses. I have had a couple of products like this- shimmery/ pearly balm- and I feel like that finish just spreads and wears much better in a gloss. Too bad.
Same here, Julia! A gloss is also easier to apply over something, I think, without having to spread the base color too much.
Maybe all of these should be called “lame” (as in “lame”, not “lam-ay”). $44 each in Canada and disappointing! Talk about adding insult to injury!
Ha ha!
Darn! I love the idea of something sheer and balm like with shimmer, but I have a feeling these are like the Loreal LeBalm: super thin. I just go through it soooo fast. I need thick paste on my lips to discourage my unconscious lip biting!
You will!! These are sooo balm-like, which makes them comfortable/easy to apply, BUT they will be easy to go through!
I like Cultive, it’s pink with a light blue shimmer. Looking at the dupes, they are all too like milky lipsticks or just pink lipsticks, or too blue. Hmm. Tempted lol.
That is one of the more interesting ones I tried 🙂
I like Cultive but I’d never buy it at that price. If it was $20 I’d consider it.
Maybe the Too Faced shade would work 😉
Pretty, but not $36 worth of pretty for me to want to get one.
I hear ya! I feel like at $36, they needed to solve wear time and make it so the glitter didn’t travel.
The actual tubes of colour look so pretty, just a shame the shimmer doesn’t quite make it onto the lip. They remind me of a Bourjois lipstick I picked up in Paris because I hadn’t seen it in the UK. It was called cristal minimale and I was hoping to get a shimmer gloss effect from it without the gloss (I’m just not a gloss person, no matter how hard I try!) but it creates a bit of a white cast on my lips.
They had such potential 🙁
Meh. They seem really (too) expensive for what they are.
They should solve more problems at this price point.
I love the look of these! Just not the pricetag. Even given the blah grades, I’d probably pay ~$10 for one, perhaps a little more for the first, as it’s more noticeable worn alone.
If a lipstick is over $20, it’s gotta be in the A range for me to even consider it.
Over $30, an A no doubt is necessary. Unless it was crazy unique… maybe.
Oh no! They’re so pretty worn that it makes me want to cry at their being such an awful fail! Ah well, that’s what Unicorn Tears are for! 😉
Hahaha!
Oh, that’s too bad. I like Cultive but I’m sure it would be disappointing applied over lip liners/lipsticks in comparison to BB’s Opal.
Opal has a better sheen!
