Stila Vivid & Vibrant Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows Reviews & Swatches (Part 2)
Vivid Garnet
Stila Vivid Garnet Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a rich, deep red with strong, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. When applied in a single layer, it was much redder and brighter than it was when sheered out, where the warmer, copper-orange base came through, so it ended up being like two different colors depending on application. The texture was smooth, fluid, and not too thin, which made it easier to work with on the lid. The eyeshadow stayed on well for 10 hours without fading or creasing.

The Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow formula is supposed to have "rich, beautiful color with a high shimmer sheen, minus the glitter" (compared to their Glitter & Glow range). The formula touts "non-tacky, non-transfer" wear with "minimal fallout." Some shades were easier to work with than others; typically the ones that weren't quite as watery and yielded more coverage with less product were the easiest to apply, diffuse the edges of, and wear. They lasted between eight and ten hours on me, and most did not have any fallout.

Vivid Sapphire
Stila Vivid Sapphire Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a rich, cobalt blue with strong, cool undertones and flecks of blue and violet sparkle. This particular shade had a more glittering finish compared to the other shades in the summer launch. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer when I applied it to my lid with a flat, synthetic brush. The consistency was thin, a touch watery, but it didn’t take too long to dry down and didn’t crease before it set. This was a shade that was better blended as it was drying down, because once it set, blending motions with a brush resulted in slight fallout. This shade lasted beautifully for over 10 hours without fading or creasing, and there seemed to be very minimal fallout over time.

Vivid Jade
Stila Vivid Jade Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a rich, emerald green with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was extremely pigmented but also quite fluid, so I had to be careful to apply less than I thought I might need and press it onto the lid, wait a few seconds for it to start drying down, and then work along the edges to diffuse and blend. I wouldn’t say that it was difficult to use but had some of the typical pitfalls of working with a liquid eyeshadow in that patience and experimentation are necessary. Once dry, it locked in place without fading or creasing for over 10 hours.

Beauty Junkie
Stila Beauty Junkie Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a meidum pink with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of gold and lavender sparkle. It had a watery texture that dried down fast enough that it didn’t settle into my fine lines, but it was hard to build it up without it getting too thick and chunky, so it ended up being medium coverage. I had the best luck applying it in small patches and waiting for it to dry as more opaque eyeliner and diffusing it with a small, flat synthetic brush on the inner tearduct for medium coverage. It wore well for 10 hours without creasing and had slight fallout over time.

Formula Overview

Stila says that it’s supposed to be a “long-wearing, sparkle eye shadow” in a “water-infused texture” that “dries down smoothly” with “minimal fallout.” There’s a lot to be impressed by with the formula, but there was some inconsistency in opacity and overall wateriness between shades so not all shades were equally impressive. When they’re good, they were pigmented, dried down evenly without creasing, and were long-wearing with minimal fallout. When they’re less impressive, they are more watery, semi-sheer to semi-opaque, prone to creasing as they dry down, though the wear is similar across all shades.
I felt like there was less fallout with the less blending done with them, e.g. applying directly to lid and only minimally working along the edges yielded the least fallout compared to diffusing and blending out the color with a brush. If I accidentally rubbed an eye, it seemed to interfere with the integrity of the wear completely–it was like a downhill avalanche of glitter that could not be stopped. They were easiest to use as the last step in a look, patted over eyeshadow with fingertip or swiped on with the sponge applicator for more of a “cut crease” kind of effect, or used along the lash line as eyeliner (I liked using a thin, liquid eyeliner brush to get a thinner line). They removed fairly well, but it was hard to get every last bit of glitter off the skin, though it was never painful or uncomfortable to remove them.

These are surprisingly beautiful!
They were!
I am excited that these reviewed well. I was just waiting for your review before picking up a couple. For sure I want Vivid Sapphire and Vivid Jade and will probably pick up a couple more when I decide what holes I have in my current Glitter and Glow collection.
These are really lovely!
Stila did a great job with these, especially as regards eveness of pigmentation. Luckily enough, I do have some fantastic dupes for these, so I know I can resist. For now.
They really did a bang up job with this launch of shades!
I love the garnet shade. A good one and done.
Such a beauty!
That blue is a real “knock your socks off” colour. I wish I wore blue more often but I rarely do and I’ve several nice blue shadows for those rare occasions when I do. But if I wore it often, I’d be eager to get hold of this.
Stunning and beautiful – Stila has nailed the Sapphire and Jade shades perfectly.
Woah I didn’t realize these are permanent! Yes! Then I can hope to snag them on sale or save up some SDM points!
These are gorgeous!! I love the eye looks you’ve done. I don’t think I could pull off the deeper shades, but I’d love to try Beauty Junkie.
I might have to pick up Jade, though I really wish they’d do a green glitter.
Lots of pretties! Do you think a pink could be used just slightly over lipstick?
Which shade? Vivid Garnet, not so much, but Beauty Junkie, sure.
These are so gorgeous! I definitely want to pick up Vivid Sapphire and Beauty Junkie. I love how these formulas (mostly) “lock in”, so I don’t need to worry about fading or creasing once it sets. I have so many of these already too! I do wish they had more mini-sets because I wouldn’t mind picking up all of them together in smaller sizes.
If anyone has any tips and tricks please
Let me know! I really adore almost all of these but I’m nervous about applying them. Do you tap with a finger? Use a brush? I’m a late in life beauty junkie and just don’t have the skills to make liquid shadows work. I seem to end up with it all over. I have fairly hooded eyes so it’s a struggle to actually use something like this as a one and done (my preferred application with such bright, pigmented colors). Either the color is not visible if I keep it on the lid, or before I know it I’ve got the shadow practically to my brown bone ?♀️ But I’m definitely going to pick up at least one of these colors and experiment.
I usually use brushes as my fingertips are huge and my eyelid space so small!
I know that this is an older post but I was just going back through comments trying to find one where Nancy T. spoke of an eye shadow primer that she has been using that is made by NYX and that it smooths her eyelids before eye shadow application. Anyway, haven’t found her comment but came across yours and hope I am not too late to give you the benefit of my experience with the Stila Glitter and Glow glitter shadows and their shimmer shades. I have pretty hooded eyelids, also. I wasn’t sure if I could make these work given so little lid space. I absolutely love them. Once they dry down they do not budge on me. I do have drier eyelids but that hasn’t stopped other cream shadows and glitters from transferring or flaking off. I get zero transfer with these and absolutely no flaking. I do apply with my pinkie finger as I feel like I have better control that way and I hold my eyelid closed for maybe 30 seconds or so but that is it. I have also used a flat shader brush that is not a real hair brush. Almost any type of synthetic brush with a flat edge will work. Here are two looks of using the Glitter and Glow in the shade, “Into The Blue”. I have pretty much every color I think.

And the looks you’ve created worth these are breathtaking, Christine.
Even though I have some powder shadows like it, Vivid Garnet is calling to me.
