Stila Smudge Stick Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.01 oz.) is touted as a richly pigmented, long-wearing, waterproof eyeliner. It’s a formula I really like for its creamy, glide-on consistency that doesn’t tug or pull at the lash line, diverse shade range, and generally good wear. Some shades are more pigmented than others, though, as you’ll note below. I actually bought several more shades during their most recent sale after trying some of their recently released shades, so you’ll see more reviews over the next couple of months as I work my way through them (I went overboard).

Stila Mint Julep Smudge Stick Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “mint green.” It’s a light, pastel green with subtle warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single stroke, and it was buildable to mostly opaque color in a few layers. It wore well for eight hours before thinning. NARS Barrow Street (P, $24.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Stila Cobalt Smudge Stick Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “deep teal blue.” It’s a medium blue with a matte finish (I really don’t see the teal in this at all). It had good color payoff in one pass, and it was buildable to full opacity in two passes. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me. Tarina Tarantino Glamorous Thief (P, $15.00) is very shimmery, darker. Urban Decay Radium (P, $19.00) is more shimmery. MAC Hi-Def Cyan (P, $16.00) is lighter, brighter. bareMinerals 4AM (LE, $15.00) is lighter, warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Stila Ultra Marine Smudge Stick Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “shimmering navy blue.” It’s a sparkling, medium-dark blue; it still has some brightness to it, so it doesn’t look black on the lash line. It was quite sheer in one pass, and it really didn’t layer well so I could never achieve full opaque color. It started to fade and thin after seven and a half hours. NARS Most Wanted (LE, $24.00) is less shimmery, brighter. Buxom Pick Me Up (P, $17.00) is darker. Laura Mercier Cobalt (P, $24.00) is less shimmery. Sephora Collection My Boyfriend’s Jeans (P, $9.00) is brighter. MAC Blue Stripe (LE, $16.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever #3L (P, $19.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I love the mint but I honestly have no idea how to wear colored eyeliners! I have soooo many eyeshadows, lipsticks, blushes but not a single colored eyeliner.

Can I just say…. I wore the smudge stick in “turquoise” (also an amazing color!!) yesterday on my top liner. I had a therapist appointment and bawwwled my eyes out. I get in the car to leave and check my makeup, it was all on, completely perfect as if I had just done it! I was amazed…!
Also love the “violet” color 🙂

The Stila Smudge Stick eyeliners are a new favorite. I agree that the coverage and pigmentation varies. I am disappointed that the Ultramarine isn’t as good. It’s one that I was thinking of getting for something fun for the summer.

I know this sounds weird but when I saw the mint julep, all I could think of was chopping it up and putting it in ice cream, it looks delicious but I’m not sure how it would look on my eyes.
Think I’ll go lie down now; things have obviously hit rock bottom when I want to eat eyeliner….

I hate doing the value for money math on these, because the result is not pretty, but I absolutely love the formula. I’m very happy to see that they’ve expanded the colour range so much. I completely see why you would want to go nuts ordering!

It happened with every single one I bought over the years. With two, they never worked and I was able to return them. The others worked fine a few times and then stopped. It just happened to the yellow one, which is a bummer because I really like it.

Aw, I’m really disappointed you didn’t include any photos of you wearing these eyeliners! I’d have loved to see how you would incorporate the Mint Julep into a look!

Sorry about that – I kind of wear them as I test other things, so they’re all over the place. I’m trying to keep them more organized, but it’s a work in progress. The problem is that I’m usually testing eyeshadows that aren’t particularly blended or worn in any complementary fashion – purely testing for wear so I don’t photograph those things.

The teal in the Cobalt color shows up on my skin quite well. Any blue that has a touch of green to it, Peace or Gonzo from Urban Decay both look quite green against my skin. I tend to stay away from those colors because of how they change on me.

Hi,

So are these actually good with smudging? You can’t really see in the swatches how blendable they are… More importantly, are they painful to smudge on the eyes, or do they glide?

Thanks in advance!
