Shiseido Noble Plum & Sleeping Dragon VisionAiry Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Noble Plum (224)
Shiseido Noble Plum (224) VisionAiry Gel Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a muted, darker burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that could have applied more evenly, especially along the inner area of my lips. There was a bit of product that sank into deeper lip lines, and I felt like this caught on imperfections (despite being the last shade I swatched aka after I already exfoliated my lips 16 times!).
It had a smooth, creamy consistency that felt almost like melting butter as it glided readily across my lips, but it had a slight set to it where the color seemed to lose slight shine and felt like it clung to my lips more (so no more slip). It didn’t feel uncomfortable to wear, though, and it ensured that there was no feathering or bleeding over the six hours it lasted for.

Formula Overview
$26.00/0.05 oz. - $520.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "high levels of pigment" for "cushiony, comfortable, weightless color" that lasts for "six hours." They had rich color coverage in a single stroke, just as promised, and they were creamy and emollient, which made them comfortable and easy to apply on my lips.
The formula has a slight set to it where it is less emollient and clings slightly (but not uncomfortably), so it loses some of the initial slip, which ultimately helps keep the product in place better and for longer. Over time (about an hour or so), the shine wore down a bit and the consistency felt a little tackier, but most of the shades lasted for six to eight hours and some of the mid-tone and deeper shades made it through a meal adequately.
The formula remained comfortable to wear, kept my lips hydrated while worn but they often felt quite good even a few hours later after a shade wore down. There was no discernible scent or taste.
The biggest downside to the product is that each tube contains a mere 0.05 oz., which is absolutely tiny relative to most traditional lipsticks (contrast this with the also-just released ModernMatte lipstick, which is the same price but contains 0.14 oz.).

PPermanent. $26.00.
Sleeping Dragon (227)
Shiseido Sleeping Dragon (227) VisionAiry Gel Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a rich, darker copper-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. It was richly pigmented with full coverage delivered in one, fluid stroke. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy and glided easily across my lips, but it had a soft-set aspect to the formula, so it felt lightly tacky after a minute or so.
The lack of slip helped it to adhere to my lips and gave it better wear. The shine wore down within an hour of wear, but the color stayed on nicely for six and a half hours, while the formula felt lightly hydrating over time.

Sleeping Dragon is gorgeous, though it might be a smidge too warm for me. CHRISTINE (pardon the caps) – I see you mention BITE Toronto as a dupe. I noticed about 2 months ago that BITE seems to have discontinued their bullet lipsticks. I noticed it first on Sephora’s site and then went to the BITE site (pardon the rhyming!) and saw that there, too, they no longer have the traditional bullet lipsticks. I nearly wept….what is with THAT?
They discontinued just about all of their previous products as they are reformulating everything to be vegan. They started rolling out those new formulas this year and will continue to roll them out going forward, but there is no current replacement nor ETA on traditional lipstick.
When I fell all in love with Sleeping Dragon, I didn’t even suspect that Hot Harissa was a super close dupe. In which case, yeah, I’m set.
Sleeping Dragon is just fabulous – and I have a few dupes CP’s Foolish and Maybelline’s Spice for Me.
Love your eye look Christine, such a kaleidoscope of colour.
Sleeping Dragon is a stunner!
I have Sleeping Dragon and… I just realized when you posted this… 5 of the dupes. You might say I like this sort of orangey-red!
Yeah, dupes happen. But when you really bond with a certain shade/family, you can see minuscule differences that are not obvious to others. I get that 5 dupe thing on brown reds, and have 3 of these. Wear ‘em and love ‘em.
I agree– I definitely don’t regret having so many versions of this color! It can be nice to have many different finishes and opacity levels, and some lean a smidge darker or brighter or oranger. And I do wear them… In fact, I was wearing YSL Chili Tunique yesterday when I typed my original comment.
Yep, and this is why I very nearly chose Sleeping Dragon for my wedding! It’s one of my favorite colors (that dupe list is full of colors I own, oops), and it wears very well.
Sleeping Dragon looks nice! Maybe a bit too brown for me. So happy you’re reviewing Shiseido! Been thinking about their Whipped Blushes, too.
Warm reds are usually not my jam, but I love sleeping dragon
