Sephora Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches ("Glitzy Neutrals" Look)
Satin Corset (281)
Sephora Satin Corset (281) Colorful Eyeshadow ($8.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a light, peachy-beige with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable without being too softly nor too firmly pressed in the pan. It had opaque pigmentation that applied well to bare skin and wore well for eight hours on me.

Formula Overview
$9.00/0.042 oz. - $214.29 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented" and wear for "10 hours" while being blendable and layerable. There are three finishes, and I found that the quality did differ depending on the finish more than anything else. The glitter finish was comprised of a mix of more matte and glitter-packed shades, where glitter would fallout during application and often were under-pigmented, along with denser, more silicone-heavy glittery shades with the latter applying and holding up better on the lid as it adhered better, though they typically didn't have great pigmentation. The matte eyeshadows were medium to opaque in coverage but often buildable with fairly soft, thinner textures with some powderiness, though there were some definite winners in the bunch. The shimmer eyeshadows were more often quite pigmented with moderately dense, smooth textures that were easy to use, but there were a few that had a little too much slip or were too dry and so application wasn't impressive without a dampened brush or an eyeshadow primer underneath it. The wear was between six and eight hours.
Each eyeshadow can be lifted out of the compact by opening using the second opening along the bottom of the compact. The lip of the first opening is what keeps the eyeshadow in place within the compact itself. I thought it was clever and made for easy removal, though the overall component felt a little lightweight to the point that it did feel flimsy. These are a revamp of the previous Colorful Eyeshadow range, which ran for $10.00 but contained 0.07 oz. or $142.86/oz. while the new ones are $190.48/oz. I think these would be more viable if the price point was $6.00, which would have made them the same price per ounce as the previous formula. The $8.00 price point makes them more expensive than MAC and on par with Anastasia (both of which have more eyeshadow per pan, too), but the Sephora house brand has always seemed to priced below mid-end, so the price point on this doesn't quite make sense.

Girl Talk (232)
Sephora Girl Talk (232) Colorful Eyeshadow ($8.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium peach with chunky, gold glitter. The texture was stiff to work with, and the glitter did not bind with the underlying base color, so it was hard to apply without the glitter landing everywhere except where I put it. It had semi-sheer coverage that adhered poorly to bare skin and didn’t improve over primer. It lasted for six hours from what I could tell.

Sephora Glitter Dress (357) Colorful Eyeshadow ($8.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a light-medium, golden brown with warm, olive undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, moderately dense texture that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely. The color stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me before fading.

Tree-Hugger (301)
Sephora Tree-Hugger (301) Colorful Eyeshadow ($8.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a dark brown with subtle, warm red undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery texture. The eyeshadow applied better on the lid than it seemed to just swatched. I could see this shade working well for someone who prefers to build up intensity in particular. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me before I noticed any fading.

Mocha Latte (352)
Sephora Mocha Latte (352) Colorful Eyeshadow ($8.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a soft, muted brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent pigmentation with a soft, velvety texture that wasn’t powdery nor was it too stiff in the pan, so I didn’t have any trouble working with it on my lid. The color wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Sephora Secret Boudoir (206) Colorful Eyeshadow ($8.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a soft, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a finely-milled, almost velvety texture, which made it blendable but somewhat powdery and prone to fallout and sheering out during application. There was less sheering out when used over an eyeshadow primer. This shade lasted for seven hours on me.

Glitter Dress and especially Mocha Latte are tempting, but I don’t really *need* either of them.
Looking at the “6 month” suggestion on the bottoms of these, I have to smile. How many here finish up an eyeshadow in 6 months, I wonder? Heck, I’ve got shadows that are 6 YEARS old (and older, probably) that I still use and that are still absolutely fine.
I also meant to add that I so wish these were better across the board. I had such a positive experience with the old shadows and, as a result, a soft spot for these….I was really ready to like them, but they are generally so disappointing. I actually tried Glitter Dress in-store as it looked SO pretty in the pan and I’m surprised you ranked it as highly as you did because I found it a poorly pigmented glitter nightmare and it’s one that I really wanted to be a winner.
There are a few brands, at least, that have a six-month span, so Sephora isn’t alone!
Oh, I realize that – it’s actually pretty common (though sometimes it’s 12 months, etc.). I just wonder how many people really adhere to this expiry date or use by date indicator.
It’s amazing how a brand can get a shade like Girl Talk so, so wrong, simply by changing the finish. This shade was not suited to glitter at all, whereas Satin Corset was beautifully finished with a light shimmer.
The range of shades are dependable stapes and apart from the glittery shades, were pretty solid.
Hi Christine,
Is there supposed to be a glitzy neutrals look attached to the reviews or am I misinterpreting the headline? I totally could be, I just can’t seem to find it!
Sorry, I didn’t take pictures! While I was testing these, my eyes were just not in a good place to be taking photos (swollen and my eyeballs were extremely red), so I didn’t feel comfortable taking photos.
