Revlon Black Cherry & Sleek Mulberry Melting Glass Shine Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches

Black Cherry (012)

Revlon Black Cherry (012) Super Lustrous Melting Glass Shine Lipstick ($9.99 for 0.15 oz.) is a medium-dark, reddened plum with subtle, warm undertones and a glossy finish with barely-there pearl. It had medium to semi-opaque coverage that applied evenly but the color was prone to migrating into fine lines, which made it look less-even (the color itself didn’t seem particularly streaky or the like).

The texture was smooth, creamy, and felt like it melted against my lips as I applied it, which had the sensation of butter but didn’t feel quite as slippery after a few seconds, though still emollient and non-sticky. It wore well for four hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$9.99/0.15 oz. - $66.60 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "brilliant color with major payoff" with an "amazingly buttery feel that instantly melts onto your lips for glass-like shine." The coverage was more medium to semi-opaque, often buildable to a minor degree, so I don't know that I'd call it "major payoff," the coverage was noticeable and allowed for real differentiation from shade to shade as they weren't so sheer that they ran together.

The consistency has an incredibly creamy, smooth feel that definitely melts on the lips but seems to "set" subtly, which seemed to tamp down the slip slightly, though it was still moderately emollient on my lips. I'd recommend being more conscious of using one layer or so as it can be easy to over-apply due to how much it feels like it's melting against one's lips.

The finish was definitely glass-like; very shiny and gave the illusion of volume to my lips. I found that there was some color that settled into lip lines or caught on minor imperfections with some shades, though the shine made it harder to notice in person. I imagine if you like grab-and-go color that's glossy with medium coverage or greater color that's easy to apply and re-apply, this formula could be a match.

The formula had a subtle, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste. The biggest "con" to the formula was the packaging, which was industrially-wrapped with a very tacky sticker that was not just difficult to remove to open the lipstick to begin with but difficult to get all of the tackiness off. I'd recommend using a sharp knife/blade (safely!) to cut across the sticker, then twist the cap off rather than removing the sticker at all.

Sleek Mulberry (013)

Revlon Sleek Mulberry (013) Super Lustrous Melting Glass Shine Lipstick ($9.99 for 0.15 oz.) is a dark, purple-berry with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy finish with barely-there pearl. It had semi-sheer to medium coverage, which went on fairly evenly but the color settled into fine lines and spider-webbed across even finer lines for me.

The consistency felt creamy and smooth–soft enough to feel as if it was melting as I applied it–but had moderate slip that didn’t result in feathering or bleeding color. It stayed on well for four hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

Black Cherry isn’t horrible, but thankfully I do have 2 far superior dupes for it in UD Bruise and CP Berry Me In Lipstick.

Sleek Mulberry is pretty awful, though. But the dupe list reminded me that I have BB’s Acai Smash on my WL!

Although these 2 colors didn’t perform as well as some others, I love the sheer, semi sheer lippies enough to donate my insane colection of regular lipsticks to my granddaughter and her friends and start fresh with a few exceptions.

I think this type of formula just doesn’t translate well with deeper shades. I experienced similar issues with these 2 shades, as well as with the deeper shades I have in the L’Oreal Colour Riche Shine lippies, but the more nude/MLBB type shades perform beautifully. That said, I’ve been playing with these deeper shades layered over some of my liquid lipsticks, so they weren’t a complete waste of money,.and make the matte products more comfortable to wear.
