Editor's Review

Pat McGrath's eyeshadows are, generally, supposed to be "super-saturated" with "creamy, soft textures" and "extreme blendability and adherence without creasing." A lot of how well they perform (and to some degree, how they are supposed to be applied and marketed) depends on the type of shades, but by and large, the eyeshadows perform very much as they are described.

The brand released single eyeshadows in March 2019, and the shades have been consistent in quality, look, and feel. They are not removable, unfortunately, so one would have to depot like any other single eyeshadow--I tried using tweezers and lifting on several shades to no avail. The lids are held closed by a weak magnet, so I'm not sure they're as secure as most single eyeshadow compacts in my stash--I wish it really locked... Read More.

The mattes are velvety, blendable, and dense without being thick or too heavy, and they have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation where a little can go a long way with some of the deeper and richer hues. The satin and pearl finishes are smooth, lightly creamy, and firmer but not dense or thick with good pigmentation, blendability, and easy application. The more metallic finishes tend to be softer, creamy, and smooth with a bit more denseness and no powderiness. The sparkly/glittery shades are often designed to be applied wet for richer coverage or intensity, which has largely been my experience. Most of the shades last between eight and nine hours.

Claims / Ingredients

The creamy, soft shadows ignite metallic, pearlized pigments and amplify color. Experience an emollient-like texture and sensorial feel that glides on with one-stroke, fully-pigmented, opaque color saturation and a polished, bright, multidimensional finish.

A beautiful and sultry almost plummy brown. Excellent PML formula. It is so pretty on the eyes.

I'm relatively new to working with powder eye shadow and this blended beautifully for me. I found it very easy to work with. As a pale olive, I was worried whether I could pull off this color, but it turned out lovely. It is also great as a blush. This is part of what makes Belle of the Ball a face palette for me, rather than just for eyes.

Divine mink makes a wonderful one-and-done. My husband commented that it looked like multiple textures layered over each other. The blue-toned grey when blended out is lovely next to the metallic. I purchased this as a single since it was the color making me consider the Decadence palette and I'm so happy to have this in a travel-friendly format instead!

The color and tone are a perfect brick reddish brown and as per usual PMGL matte you can wear it sheered out or packed and heavily pigmented. The blendability is on point and it lasts very well (+8 hours) on my oily hooded lids.

In my palette this shade is a powdery mess. It refuses to stick on the eye (tried with UDPP, Kiko primer, bare lid, all unset) and it doesn't show nearly as deep as it is in the pan. A huge disappointemene, because the finger swatches on bare skin are beautiful. On a positive note it works really well to soften the edges of deeper shades and diffuse overpowering shimmers.

Not impressed. A merky colour. I got rid of it.

This is easily included in the top eyeshadow shades that I have tried in my life. I have this in my Decadence palette. Decadence is my most expensive eyeshadow palette, but is definitely my most used too.

I am a huge Pat McGrath fan. I have three of her mothership palettes and this shade is the only one that I literally despise. It does not work .. it feels like I'm rubbing on a piece of sandpaper and then when I look at my finger there's just a little shimmer and some grey - what doesn't look like eyeshadow on my finger .. and it doesn't go on any better .. so to the person above my review .. maybe it's only our newer palettes ?,doubt it though. Sigh. Such a good color too if it WORKED!? I love taupey golds .

It's a stunning duochrome (triochrome actually) that I fell in love with from the first application. It applies as a very wearable medium brown metallic shimmer but then shows green or dark pink when the light reflects off it. I can actually wear it to the office on my lid and feel like I'm wearing something truly exceptional every day - I also know it will last all day without losing intensity, and it's very easy to apply and works better with a silicone applicator or fingertip than a brush. I like it so much that I bought a backup of the sublime palette!

I don't know whether it was just my palette or what, but this shade did not work for me. I tried it with and without primer, with finger, with dry brush, with wet brush, with wet finger, with silicone applicator and none of that worked to build up the product or even get an appreciable amount on the applicator tool. I wondered if it was dry pan and tried all the tricks to fix that and nothing happened. So disappointed with this as I am obsessed with the mothership palettes and love every other shade in this and other palettes.
