Editor's Review

It's supposed to have a "soft focus, blurring effect" with "buildable" color that can deliver "high impact colour" with a "silky, velvet soft texture" that "smooths over fine lines and imperfections" without "drying out your lips." They have a velvety slip to them, as they're packed with silicone, and so they have that smooth feel as they go over the lips but have a lightweight, almost powder-like finish that makes me think of a "soft matte." From a normal viewing distance, like at a glance in a mirror or another person viewing you while having a face-to-face conversation, as opposed to checking one's lips close-up in the mirror, I saw the "blur" effect--soft, slightly understated color with a matte finish. The lack of opacity in some of them gave them a "softer" appearance to my eye.

That being said, I didn't experience any smoothing, and I haven't personally found that the more silicone-heavy lipstick formulas go that far in smoothing my lip lines; I'd actually feel like they're more likely to emphasize imperfections as the lipstick caught on flakes and settled into lip lines. There were some shades that applied more unevenly and were more prone to settling noticeably in my lip lines than others, and there were a few that applied evenly and were flattering with respect to texture on me as well. As always, I do my best to ensure that I exfoliate my lips regularly and keep my lips hydrated when not testing lip products (at night and the like) to try and have a "good" canvas for lip colors.

The coverage varied from shade to shade with most shades offering medium, buildable coverage, though some of the deeper and more vivid shades were more semi-opaque to nearly opaque in a single layer. The color faded a bit more readily from the center of my lips compared to the outer edges but was fairly even in how they wore down. Only the very deepest/more red-toned shades stained my lips (and only slightly) after wearing them. They seemed mostly non-drying but a few felt a little more drying to me. The formula has a sweet, burnt sugar scent but no discernible taste.

This is a really great (for me) peachy red-tan with the slippy dry-but-not-drying matte finish like the old Ultima II mattes and Avon's PerfectWear. So many that I try in the hunt for this color are either too crazy-coral or too nude. I agonized over which color to choose and analyzed MANY reviews like these, lol. I still might get Regulate, 21 Questions, or CA Love. These are sooo fairly priced as well as cruelty-free and vegan. Formula does not transfer to your coffee cup easily. I'd love to see them add some shimmers. Thank you C for bringing these to my attention!

21 Questions applies smoothly, no pulling or tugging. There is a somewhat strong waxy smell when applying, but it doesn't last long. It goes on sheer at one pass, and begins to build in color with a lovely buffed velvet look. Despite it looking semi matte, it doesn't dry my lips out when I am wearing it, though the dry texture does take some getting used to. It lasts very well when drinking, somewhat well when eating and reapplies very well. Despite the unusual texture, it doesn't settle in my lip lines, which is great as I have very dry lips. The color pulls more reddish on me, and is great for looking pulled together.

Excellent wear, goes on smoothly, and I love the colour (it's a brownish peach on me). My one problem with it is that it has some sort of flavor that I *really* don't like. It goes away after a few minutes, but the first few minutes after wear are unfun. (I still use it all the time, because other than that it's perf.)

I received this in a ColourPop mystery bad a while back, and the color is absolutely hideous on me! Its almost like a pastel pink, and just makes me look like a zombie. But, the formula isn't too bad, which is what I'm focusing on. It feels similar to the Creme lux lipsticks, but tacky feeling, even after blotting lightly with a tissue. It also disappears very quickly. Forget eating or drinking unless you want to reapply, and talking or moving your mouth at all makes it wear off as well. I really didn't notice this masking my lip cracks, and it bunched up on some dry skin I had. It didn't feel dry, though, but I have no idea if it moisturized my lips. Even with its flaws, I can see this being a hit with the lip gloss crowd, since in my opinion it wears similarly to a gloss, just without the crazy shine.
