Pretty Vulgar Early Bird Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Early Bird
Pretty Vulgar Early Bird Eyeshadow Palette ($35.00 for 0.55 oz.) contains 12 eyeshadows in an arrangement of soft, neutral shades with a peach/pink leaning. The palette is made out of sturdy cardboard and has a large mirror underneath the lid. The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be “ultra-smooth, color-rich, blendable” that is “long-wearing” and “supremely creamy.” I was less impressed with this palette compared to the Prettie Birdie palette. This one had several shades that had more medium to semi-opaque pigmentation with only a handful that were truly pigmented. Many of the eyeshadows in this palette were powdery or dusty, which led to shorter wear and more difficult application.

Tweet is a pale pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium color coverage that was somewhat buildable (up to semi-opaque pigmentation). The texture was soft but dusty, so there was excess product that kicked up in the pan. It wore well for six hours on me.

Wink
Wink is a soft, peachy gold with warm undertones and a pearly shimmer. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that did not build up at all, and the texture was noticeably dusty and prone to sheering out further so it did not have much coverage. This shade seemed best used patted over another shade for added shimmer. It started to disappear after six hours of wear.

Chirp
Chirp is a light-medium pink with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The eyeshadow had semi-opaque pigmentation paired with a soft, dusty consistency that sheered out a bit when I applied it to bare skin. It performed better over a primer, which gave it more to adhere to. The color started to fade on me after six and a half hours.

Ruffled is peachy beige with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that went on evenly and only had a bit of fallout initially (from the sparkle). True Colors
True Colors is a light-medium, pinky mauve with warmer undertones and a glittery, metallic finish. The texture was soft, more loosely pressed in the pan, which resulted in chunkier product coming off of the pan’s surface. It was messy to use on the lid as well as kicked up a lot of excess product within the pan. It had good pigmentation, though, and mostly opaque coverage on the lid itself (even after the fallout). The eyeshadow stayed on well for seven and a half hours, though there was a bit of additional fallout while worn.

I love the tone, and colour of these! I’m bummed by the rating/the amount of C’s. So I’ll be looking into the dupes, or swatch in in store!
Let me know if you try it in store, Shannon!
Interesting how the more neutral palette scores worse than the bolder color palette! I’ll stick with the other one
Right?? That was my exact thought process! I prioritized the brighter one thinking that one was more likely to flop!
IKR? After how well the brighter palette did, I was expecting this one to be an A.
Darn, I was hoping this would be better!
Same here, Erin!
I’m thinking that this one just wouldn’t work for me at all. Iffy quality, lots of light neutral shades that would disappear into my medium coloring, etc. Sad, because I was hoping for better.
I don’t think this one would work for you as well as other neutral palettes for the amount of lightness here!
I know that here I am able to yawn. Unimpressive and erratic. Massively dupable, though the full palette shot does not give that impression. Packaging IS pretty. I enjoy looking at the dupes for every shade, as it reminds me what is where. No Christine steel trap mind here. As in, which of four Vice palettes has an X shade? Helps me remember and put things together from different palettes, without having to pull ’em all out. When I play the guessing game of palette origin, I’m improving. Past couple of days has confirmed my desire to have an indie summer. I did get the PV Sinful blush, and it’s good with plums and puces (never thought how funny that must sound to your French speaking readers, iirc, it means flea, not purply brown.). Like Nars Tangier, Tanganyka, and BB Bond.
For as dupable as the shade range is, I would have expected better quality – I was surprised that this one was less impressive than the more colorful palette (where I would have expected sheerness!).
Yes, it should have been the EASIER, between this and the bright. Those are not difficult shades to do. It should have been a contender! Right, Marlon?
There are quite a few problems with this palette….
1. Many of the shades are very similar to each other
2. Poor ratings across the palette – poorly done neutrals….
3. Lots of dupes for each shade
Very sad
Well-said, Genevieve!!
I was less impressed with this palette “compared to the Early Bird palette” Did you mean the pretty birdie palette since this is the early bird palette lol.
Sorry, I did mean Prettie Birdie! Too many birds here!
This was really helpful- because after your prior review of Pretty Birdie, I (of course) had to go to their website and see what else I might want! This was one of the items I was interested in, so now I have more info. Cool.
Also, I wanted to mention that in your first paragraph above, you mention that prior review, but you wrote that it’s Early Bird, and I think you meant Pretty Birdie. (The link does takes you to Pretty Birdie, though.)
I’m a new subscriber wondering why I didn’t subscribe long ago- thank you so much for what you do- you are awesome!
So sorry about the mix up there, Rita! Yes, definitely meant Pretty Birdie. It was a surprise that the more colorful palette was better than the neutral one, which should have been a slam dunk.
Thanks for subscribing!
Actually, I’m happy that the brighter one is the better palette- that’s the one I loved! So. Many. Colors.
It’s perfect.
Thank you!
Totally passing, I was really hoping for better with this one. I so wanted it to be the palette TF White Chocolate Chip was supposed to be.
Well, at least it was better than White Chocolate Chip, lol!
LOL good point.
Yeah, but that’s not hard!
What a shame that this cute palette didn’t perform better. The palette itself is so cute. But the shades, though I love the look of them, are shades I already own. Loved the format of this reviewed that I just received in my inbox – excellent and attention-getting!
I like the concept they were going for with the color scheme!
And thank you! 🙂
It’s a shame that this palette didn’t perform that well because the colours are very pretty and would make a perfect daytime palette for someone like me with fair skin. However I already have dupes for nearly all the shades so I don’t feel like I’m missing out although it would be nice to have all the shades together to complete a light daytime look.
Phew! Thank goodness you have plenty of dupes to recreate the look and feel of this palette.
Yes, it’s almost a bare/neutral/slightly pastel palette. Good idea, poor execution. You could wear it to no makeup venues……if it were decent.
I have enough palettes but I was really thinking of buying this. The pink/peach colors are great for fair skin so I guess I’m a little disappointed that the quality isn’t better.
