Omi

Pat McGrath Omi MatteTrance Lipsticks ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark pink with more neutral undertones and a cream finish. There was a noticeable shine to this one (more so than most shades) that lingered for a full two hours, though a light blotting would take it down immediately. It was so pigmented that blotting would not impact the full coverage results at all. The texture was lightly creamy (after about a second on the lips) and thicker, which helped to cover the lips smoothly and minimize the appearance of my natural texture. It wore well for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

The formula is supposed to be “richly pigmented” with “”supreme hydration” and “opulent matte opacity.” It’s a denser, firmer formula that takes a second to warm up against the lips, so the very first pull of the lipstick on the lips tugs slightly but then maneuvers smoothly across the lips without skipping or dragging. The lipstick was thicker on the lips, which ensured richer coverage and helped smooth out the texture of my lips but was less forgiving along the edges. For some of the deeper shades, I would recommend using a lip pencil or a lip brush to ensure crisper lines. For an hour or two, the majority of the shades had more of a satin finish that became more matte as the shine wore down. The wear was between four to eight hours and none felt hydrating over time for me; a few were non-drying while others were noticeably drying. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula.

Formula Overview

$38.00/0.14 oz. - $271.43 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be “richly pigmented” with “”supreme hydration” and “opulent matte opacity.” The consistency was smooth, velvety, and dense without being too firm for one-stroke, glide-on application (I found the original shades to be slightly firmer compared to more newly released shades). They had nearly opaque to opaque coverage in one layer and most were buildable.

They had a subtle sheen--more satin-to-cream in finish--that wore down to a natural matte finish within an hour or two of wear. The formula lasted between four and eight hours on me, and while most weren't drying, they aren't "supreme[ly" hydrating either. They are, however, comfortable to wear over a longer period of time and reapply well. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula.

1995

Pat McGrath 1995 MatteTrance Lipsticks ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied smoothly and evenly across the lips and didn’t sink into my lip lines. It was thicker in feel, but it still did not feel heavy and was comfortable to wear. This shade stayed on well for five hours and was non-drying.

Flesh 3

Pat McGrath Flesh 3 MatteTrance Lipsticks ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep, reddish plum with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It was richly pigmented and yielded even, smooth coverage when applied directly from the tube. The consistency was thicker than most lipsticks but still felt lightweight on the lips, almost as if it melded with the lips over time. It was smooth and dense, so for the first half of a second to a second, it tugged lightly on the lips but then became creamier and easier to apply. It lasted for six hours and was non-drying on me.

Omi…so beautiful!!! Want, want, want! But then I noticed its number one dupe is MAC Twig, my all-time favorite lipstick, which is also similar to about four or five other lipsticks I own. Those muted, dusty, mauve-ish colors get me every time.

Omi is gorgeous, but I must resist.

Sarah Avatar

I really want Omi too! But I have a feeling these will sell out in a minute so you know what? I’ll get MAC Twig. 😀 Thank you!

The thing that attracts me most to these lipsticks isn’t the name; I’m obsessed with the look of the actual lipstick in the tube. It looks like each one has been spray-coated with some kind of rubberized finish (like NARS packaging). I’ve never seen any other lipstick like that; it just intensifies the matte aspect. It’s gorgeous!

Ooooh, F3! Will be hard to talk myself out of. Talked myself out of Nori, nighthawk, and paramount. But have 3 Nars dupes. This shade is the epicenter of what I like. If I could only wear one shade, this is it. Have scored zero PMcGs, and don’t think I’m in danger of being sucked into her vortex. Just might have to violate my 2 dupe rule, esp if the dupes are under 90. Pure bs rationalization. At least I don’t want the vault…

kjh Avatar

As they say, ya like whatcha like. Prob safe, unless I see it in person…. I do know my weaknesses. But thanks for the encouragement to resist!

I’m a huge Pat Mcgraff fan but she needs to close up shop on her makeup line and go back to the drawing board. I have never seen a makeup line with an identity crisis. A shade called 1995 may have been cute if UD never released their 1993. Yes I know two different shades but a similar idea. Nothing about that color screams 90s to me really. It’s just a dull pink which may have been a color in the 90s but it’s not specific to that decade either. Bored, bored, bored. And is this also released in a stupid plastic bag with cheap ass sequins? Not buying Pat McGraff. I’ll stick with other brands who have a clear identity and vision. Over you!

Christine Avatar

It seems like there are some who are really big fans of the line, since it has still sold well, but I am sorry to hear that you are not interested and are disappointed by the line yourself. Hopefully, there are other brands that are more exciting for you that you can enjoy instead 🙂

Gerard has a 1995, too. I think it’s a Jackie Hill shade. All the rage at one of my day jobs a couple of years back. To me the 90s were when the Kevyn-led nudes took hold with a vengeance…

WildDove Avatar

As a huge fan of Pat McGrath, I’m super intrigued by this line, especially the Omi and 1995! Where is the McGrath brand sold?

Lissa Avatar

This trio looks fantastic on you! I was hoping you’d review these first, it’s the trio I definitely want. Since we have extremely similar skintones, I know they’ll work for me!!!! I wasn’t about to order such high-end products blindly 🙂 Thank you, can’t wait to see the others!

Laura Avatar

I’m glad the formula is pretty nice and they’re not drying on the lips. These colors look so pretty on you, Christine! Probably going to get omi, 1995, and a brighter color like full panic of elson when these drop at Sephora.

Nancy T Avatar

Each one of these looks absolutely plush and cushy! The tubes and how they appear on the lips. Love ’em! Flesh 3 is so very much my speed come autumn and winter. Don’t believe I have any close dupesat the time being, either. Omi is another stunner, but I do have MAC’s Cosmo and Mehr, Nyx Euro Trash, and I’m pretty sure that if I followed the dupe list all the way through, I may have found more? LOL! Omi DOES seem deeper than all the dupes I have, I think?

Claire L Avatar

These are really intriguing, the texture in the tube and the look on the lips are totally different! The lipstick looks like velvet, it’s like all the shine has been erased, a totally flat light. Never seen anything like it on a lipstick! Reminds me of the material that was created that was a ‘true black’ that didn’t reflect any light at all. Truly innovative!

Mona Khan Avatar

Ahhh!!! They are so pretty. I kind of want the entire collection but can’t make up my mind. I’m waiting patiently for your review of the other shades. Thanks Christine! xoxo

Javiera Avatar

I LOVE Flesh 3! But I can’t get my hands on it ’cause nor Sephora or Pat McGrath ships to my country 🙁 The UD and Nars looks very similar but they’re not matte – is another dupe with a matte consistincy I can find (nars, ud, mac, bobbi brown) in my country? Thanks! x
