Natasha Denona Zendo Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Zendo
Natasha Denona Zendo 15-Pan Small Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.67 oz.) contains a real assortment of finishes: four cream-powders, four creamy mattes, two duochromes, and five metallics–or eight mattes and seven shimmers effectively. There was a good mix of light and dark shades across the finishes, and the spectrum of shades, while still warmer and more pink/orange leaning, did have some pops of color (pretty much the two right-most columns) that helped to stretch the types of looks one could create with the palette.
The majority of the eyeshadows were pigmented, long-wearing, blendable, and easy to work with. Breath was the “worst” of the bunch, as it was a little drier but not a real miss.

Mindful (374CP)
Mindful (374CP) is a rich, medium-dark brown with strong, warm orange undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had a bit of shine to it initially, but the more I blended it out, the less obvious that shine was, though it wasn’t as matte as a true matte would be. The texture was lightly emollient to the touch and felt slightly spongy compared to the creamy matte formula in the palette, but it acted and seemed powder-like as soon as it came into contact with my skin. This shade yielded opaque color coverage in a single layer, which wore nicely for nine hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview
-
The majority of the brand's eyeshadows are quite pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. The eyeshadows have improved over time, particularly with respect to longevity (without a primer). The original formula often creased on me within seven to eight hours, whereas the more current formula wears eight to nine hours with fading (instead of full-on creasing). The more matte finishes tend to be a bit more velvety, substantial, and less dry/powdery compared to prior iterations.
The metallic finish is often the creamiest, slightly denser in feel, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and blendability. The sparkling shades can have some fallout, depending on how they're applied and how sparkly they are, so they sometimes work better with fingertips or a dampened brush; they can also run sheerer compared to other finishes.
Cream-Powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have firmer, almost stiff, consistencies and more semi-opaque, watercolor-esque coverage. They are longer-wearing, but they can take a few uses to learn how to use. This formula has also improved compared to when it first debuted--it is a bit more yielding now.

Luster (375M)
Luster (375M) is a bright, golden copper with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had rich pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was moderately dense but not too firmly-pressed into the pan nor was it thick on my lid. The eyeshadow lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Balance (376CM)
Balance (376CM) is a light-medium brown with moderate, warm undertones–slightly more golden–paired with a matte finish. It had a smooth, velvety consistency that was a smidgen powdery in the pan but not in practice as it wasn’t prone to fallout. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and blended out well. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Flow (377M) is a faded, light blue with subtle, cool undertones and a metallic finish with faint gold and blue pearl. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single stroke, which was easily built up to full coverage with less than a second layer. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable with it feeling slightly drier than some other metallics by the brand. This shade lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Mantra (378CP)
Mantra (378CP) is a deep green with neutral-to-cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. The texture was smooth to the touch, but it had a light glide to it that made it feel like a cream-powder hybrid (as expected). It worked better with denser brushes, like a pencil brush, for initial pick up and lay down of color but blended out well with fluffier brushes for a diffused effect. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer. There were signs of fading present after nine hours of wear.

Equilibrium (382M)
Equilibrium (382M) has a blackened plum base with charcoal gray and bluish-teal shimmer throughout. The more blended it was, the less teal it appeared, but the more packed on it was, the more blackened-teal it appeared. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and moderately dense without being too thick, which yielded full color coverage with ease. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Formula Overview
$29.00/0.08 oz. - $362.50 Per Ounce

Equilibrium (382M)
PiPPermanent in Palette. $29.00.
Breath (383CP)
Breath (383CP) is a very light, mint green with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, which was somewhat buildable, but the texture was a slightly thicker and a touch drier than most of the cream-powder shades. It seemed to apply better to my lid, which wasn’t as dry as my arm, though. It lasted decently for eight hours before fading visibly.

Sense (384M)
Sense (384M) is a darker, chocolate brown with subtle, warm undertones that gave it a slightly rosier or plummier tint paired with a metallic finish. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was easy to pick up and to apply to bare skin. It wore well for nine hours before fading noticeably.

Tranquil (385M)
Tranquil (385M) is a muted, medium-dark pink with moderate, warm undertones and a soft, pearly sheen. It had rich pigmentation that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well. The texture was smooth to the touch, not too thick but moderately dense and not prone to fallout. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading.

Calm (386CP)
Calm (386CP) is a medium, peachy coral with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer but had to be built up for full coverage. The texture was slightly soft and almost sponge-like, so it had some give without being powdery, but felt very powder-like applied and blended out. This shade lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Yama (387DC)
Yama (387DC) is a darker gold base with duochrome shimmer that shifted from green to gold that gave it a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was soft, smooth, and more loosely-pressed into the pan compared to most of the shimmer shades in the palette, so there was a slight chance of fallout. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which wore well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Zeal (388CM)
Zeal (388CM) is a dark, olive green with muted, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was slightly thinner compared to other mattes in the palette–not to the point where it inhibited application, as I still found it had opaque coverage that was blendable, but it required a slightly firmer hand when working with it. There were signs of fading after nine hours of wear.

Wow this is a great buy especially for people who don’t have many of Natasha Denona eye shadow palettes. I’m going to pick this up for my highly anticipated travel plans. Glad it scored well!
Debating this at length and I decided for! I do not have mini zendo and I have less near dupes than expected. It’s like an add-on between biba and safari. I love ND formula; especially the mattes and pearly shades that are lower key shimmers, and overall, I find myself gravitating to warmer colours than I have in the past. This ticks all the boxes and I believe I will get good wear from it.
btw.. thanks Christine for expediting this review!
Yes, it is a bit like a less-matte Safari and is richer overall. At least this one is a mere $65!
The swatches told the tale.
Good performance overall and what we’ve come up expect from ND.
I’ve already bought it so it’s a bit of a relief 😅
As I suspected, I have an almost embarrassing # of dupes for Flow and at least 1 dupe of Equilibrium, which are the 2 shades I like most in this palette. I’ve also got 2 dupes for Sense, which is also nice. Nothing for Yama though but I can live with that. So this isn’t a sensible purchase at all for me, especially at $84 here in Canada.
Correction – make that $87. Highway robbery.
I purchased this during the presale and have used it a couple times. I like the palette and don’t regret my purchase. I have to admit, I said a silent “oh good” when I saw your rating.
Yay! Mine arrived today. I always gravitate toward russets and teals so this was a no-brainer. I’m excited to try this palette. Glad to see it reviewed well.
Mine arrived yesterday, but I’ve not had the opportunity to play with it beyond swatching. So happy when I saw your A review.
This might be my first N.D. Palette..it’s pretty perfect.
and love the color story.
Wow…… same same same as most of her orange/warm leaning palettes! I hate this color story….. but love her formula……. I do own quite a few of hers that are more neutral leaning….. some warm but not orange/red warm………wow can tell they are very complementary to those with a particular skin tone….. and horrible for some of us not in this catagory! Lol its only make up right? So please don’t come at me! 🙂
I think I’d much rather wait for your SG palettes than buy this. Not because it’s “bad”, but yours has more interesting shades that I’d have more fun using.
💕
Agreed!
Ditto! It’s lovely, but I’m sure I can dupe a lot of it and I’d rather support you and Sydney Grace, especially if I gain new unique colors.
Well that really puts me into the ‘now I have to get it’ category! I was on the fence. Thanks for the review, Christine!
I’m trying to decide whether to get this. It reminds me so much of UD Born to Run (which I have).
Pretty, but in the end a warm neutral palette with pops of blue and green. I would take a six pan of the cool shades on the right side, though.
It is a beautifully coloured palette and I am pleased that it rated well for all those who wish to purchase this. For me, there are way too many pinky and red shades to make this a worthwhile palette for me. The shades that I would love the most – the teal and the olive shades were in a matte format that doesn’t suit me.
I do have dupes for the gold and brown shades. Although it would cost you $65USD – here in Aus land it would be more like $100 – because that is the price for the Glam and Bronze palettes – exorbidant.
Christine will you be posting an eye look from this palette? I was so curious about what you would come up with.
I don’t think so! I applied and tested, but I didn’t take photos!
Thanks for the review!! I am so glad I jumped on this the first day it was offered! I have yet to swatch the colors alongside her Coral and Aeris palettes. I would have skipped the mini Zendo if I knew this was coming.
This and the Lila and Aeris palettes are my fave ND so far! In fact, the only purchase from ND that I have regretted so far is her Sunrise palette.
I will be able to create similar looks with what I already have but I am glad this is such high quality because of the number of people interested in it.
I have a question – Christine, do you or anybody else know if the ND samples that you can sometimes get from Sephora are the right size to insert into your existing palettes? Right now, at least on the Canadian side, there are samples of eyeshadow (in the shade Sense, I think) from the Zendo palette. I’m getting one with an order, but am curious as to whether I might be able to put it into my bronze palette.
I would guess they are smaller, but I am not sure as I have not received any!
Thanks for answering! I just received the sample and it looks to be the same size as the pans in the midi palettes. I think it could be put into my bronze palette, but it’s glued into a little plastic package – like a teensy version of the small zendo palette. Oh well. It’s still really lovely.
10 easily duped, mostly from her own palettes, so it’s a pass. Sad too because the colors I like I still don’t have. So I’m definitely waiting for blue-greens from your X SG collection.
I scored this immediately. So beautiful.
