Natasha Denona Biba Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Biba

Natasha Denona Biba 15-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($129.00 for 1.2 oz.) is a new, permanent palette that features three Metallic eyeshadows, four Cream-Powder eyeshadows (more slip, more of a satin finish), and eight matte eyeshadows. It’s a neutral-themed palette with the first row being more orange-based, the second row being more red/rosy-toned, and the bottom being more neutral/desaturated. I actually think the shades could have worked as three five-pan palettes! There were no troublesome shades in the palette, and the palette felt cohesive so it could work as a standalone, workhorse kind of palette but could also be paired with more colorful palettes, too. The eyeshadows were pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing.

Rustic (214M)

Rustic (214M) is a rich, golden bronze with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The color payoff was fantastic, while the eyeshadow had a creamy, smooth texture that was dense without being too firmly pressed in the pan or too thick on my skin. This shade wore beautifully for eight and a half hours on me before I noticed signs of fading.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Alumina, Diisostearyl Malate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Silica, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tin Oxide, PTFE, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Titanium Borosilicate, Aluminum Calcium Sodium Silicate. May Contain (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Bronze Powder (Ci 77400), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Carmine (Ci 75470).

Prairie (215CM)

Prairie (215CM) is a muted, light-medium orange with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It was like a melange of mustard, brown, and orange to my eye–hard to nail down! The texture was velvety, more firmly-pressed in the pan, and seemed to have slight slip compared to the other shades. It seemed to adhere a bit more strongly in places (particularly swatched) but blended out well on my eye. It had opaque color payoff that lasted well for eight and a half hours on my skin before it showed signs of wear.

Ingredients

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica. May Contain: (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Carmine (Ci 75470).

Coco

Coco is a muted, medium-dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered well to bare skin and blended out with little effort. The consistency was soft, a smidgen powdery in the pan, but maintained its intensity when applied. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours on me before fading noticeably. This shade was previously released in the Tropic palette.

Ingredients

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica. May Contain: (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Carmine (Ci 75470).

Freckle (217CM)

Freckle (217CM) is a soft, medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, velvety texture that was blendable and easy to work with, though there was a bit of fallout if I wasn’t careful to tap off the excess prior to applying it to my skin. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading on me.

Ingredients

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Mica, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica. May Contain: (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Carmine (Ci 75470).

Shine (218M)

Shine (218M) is a light-medium peach with warm, orange undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The eyeshadow had rich color coverage that adhered well to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. The consistency felt lightly creamy, dense without being thick or too firmly pressed in the pan, and picked up well with my brushes. It lasted for just over eight and a half hours on me before I noticed some fading.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Alumina, Diisostearyl Malate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Silica, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tin Oxide, PTFE, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Titanium Borosilicate, Aluminum Calcium Sodium Silicate. Pasha (219CM) is a deep, burgundy-brown with strong,w arm undertones and a matte finish. It stayed on well for eight hours before it showed signs of fading.

Monroe (220M)

Monroe (220M) is a light, peachy beige with warm undertones and a high-shine, metallic finish. The texture was lightly creamy, dense without being stiff or too firmly pressed in the pan, and blended out easily on my skin. It had rich pigmentation that wore nicely for eight and a half hours on me before creasing faintly.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Alumina, Diisostearyl Malate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Silica, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tin Oxide, PTFE, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Titanium Borosilicate, Aluminum Calcium Sodium Silicate. Rayon (221CP)

Rayon (221CP) is a faded, medium reddish-copper with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good color coverage, but the Cream-Powder formula has a distinctive feel and result: denser, firmer texture that yields a lighter-than-the-pan color. I find slightly denser or firmer/stiffer brushes to be ideal for using with the Cream-Powders, as they pick up product better. The upside was that there was no powderiness, and the product blended out easily while sitting well on my skin. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before it started to fade on me.

Ingredients

Dimethicone, Mica, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Hydrogenated Polycyclopentadiene, Isododecane, PTFE, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Zinc Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine. Buff (222CM)

Buff (222CM) is a muted, medium-dark copper-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was soft, velvety, and finely-milled without being too powdery or prone to sheering out on my skin. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Ingredients

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Mica, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica. May Contain: (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Carmine (Ci 75470).

Tone (223CP)

Tone (223CP) is a slightly bright, light-medium orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. The consistency was smooth to the touch but denser and more firmly-pressed, so it worked better with a heavier hand or a denser brush for opaque coverage. The satin finish helped it blend easily on my skin, whether paired with mattes in the palette or with shimmers. It had opaque pigmentation that wore well for eight hours before fading a bit on my skin.

Ingredients

Dimethicone, Mica, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Hydrogenated Polycyclopentadiene, Isododecane, PTFE, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Zinc Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine. It applied evenly and blended out with little effort along the edges. This shade lasted nicely for eight and a half hours before I noticed slight fading.

Tor (225CP)

Tor (225CP) is a soft, light-medium taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a satin sheen. It seemed more shimmery in the pan than it did when applied to my skin. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable, though it didn’t feel quite as cream-like as other Cream-Powder shades did in the palette. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer and built up to full coverage with less than half of a layer more. It stayed on well for eight hours on me before I noticed any fading.

Ingredients

Dimethicone, Mica, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Hydrogenated Polycyclopentadiene, Isododecane, PTFE, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Zinc Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine. Sculpture (226CM)

Sculpture (226CM) is a soft, grayish-taupe with neutral undertones and a matte finish. It appeared slightly cooler-toned when paired with other cool-toned shades but seemed to be closer to neutral to neutral-warm on its own. The texture was soft, lightly powdery and prone to a bit of sheering out when I worked with it on my bare lid. It had good pigmentation to start with and was buildable. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading a bit.

Ingredients

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica. May Contain: (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Carmine (Ci 75470).

Spot (227CP)

Spot (227CP) is a soft black with a satin sheen. It built up to a slightly deeper, richer black hue, even though it had opaque coverage from the get go. It has a Cream-Powder formula, which means it had a denser, firmer, and almost stiffer consistency compared to the brand’s other eyeshadow finishes; it worked better with denser/firmer brushes as a result. I found the color easy to control, so it was nice for darkening other shades, and it had the blendability and pigmentation needed to work as a standalone shade as well. It lasted well for eight and a half hours on me before fading visibly.

Ingredients

Dimethicone, Mica, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Hydrogenated Polycyclopentadiene, Isododecane, PTFE, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Zinc Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine. Tusk (228CM)

Tusk (228CM) is a muted, medium yellow with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, though it needed a second layer for full opacity, paired with a soft, velvety consistency that was slightly powdery. The eyeshadow applied evenly to my skin and blended out well. This shade stayed on nicely for eight hours before it started to fade on my skin.

Ingredients

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica. May Contain: (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Carmine (Ci 75470).

A lovely and versatile palette for someone not already swimming in neutrals. Sculpture is a really interesting shade that I’d be interested in as a crease color were it sold as a single.

Oh man, I didn’t want to love this palette, but I really, really do! Those Cream-to-Powder shades, the somewhat different takes on the regular matte shades and the fact that this would be the perfect workhorse palette makes this a solid, if not particularly exciting purchase. Or so I thought. It is actually more interesting and pulse-quickening than I had anticipated!
I know that if I do make this investment (plus the Gold Palette) , then I will likely never need to buy any other neutral/naked type palette ever again.

This is a lovely palette but I can dupe all the shades fairly easily. I even think that only my dupes for the shimmers are in palettes.
Money saved! Nonetheless I will recreate this palette with my stash and reproduce the looks… They are gorgeous! Thank you for the inspiration Christine ☺️

I do love the palette, but I am still waiting for that perfect palette release from Natasha Denona that is just right up my alley and gets an A+ to try out her formula!

Funny, I’m not waiting to buy one, because I have two and an older 5 palette from her, but I’m feeling you and waiting for a spectacular palette from her. I just feel that she could do it and it just isn’t there yet. If it could be want I’d like, I’d appreciate it having blues, purples, greens, and silver and some other colors.

I’m in love with this palette and can’t wait to use it with Safari. I used the middle row yesterday and my eye look was gorgeous, if I do say so myself. 😂😂

A lovely palette, but I do think that there are more than a few shades that are too similar to each other -Freckle and Prairie, Cocoa and Seed and even Shine and Monroe when placed on the eye.
Thank you for the review Christine and it’s good to see it rated well.

I really love about 1/4 of the shades, like about another 1/4 but there are too many very warm and orange-toned shades in this for me to spend this much ($162!!!!!) on it.

I actually would have much preferred them being 3 5-pan palettes. Other than tusk – that bottom row wouldn’t work for me so I passed on the whole thing. Kind of like a lot of her palettes – if there are enough shades I can’t wear (seem to be mildly allergic to many of her reds) then what’s the point. Which is sad because I really would like to have all of the other shades!

This one in particular feels very easily put into three five-pans! The others are a little more themed across all 15 shades.

Although there is no shortage of largely warm-leaning palettes out there, I was instantly attracted to this palette in part because of the colors and in part because it’s ND. I bought it last week and just in the few days of wearing it, have fallen in love – the colors blend beautifully and are well-coordinated. I really appreciate the fact that the palette is not overloaded with shimmers, glitter, and metallics — although I may love those finishes, my 48-year old eyelids don’t love them back.

Christine, I hope you will post Look Ideas for both the Biba and Safari palettes!

I think others have

For $129 I better not catch you repeating shades, Natasha…

(Coco, buff, and six more “similar” shades if were only talking about her 28/15 pan palettes.)

Such a beautiful palette, I really love the colour story!
But that price though… Now I don’t mind paying a bit more for high quality products, but this one is just over the top in my opinion.

Was waiting on your review, hmmm, after I check for dupes, this may be a future gift to myself, say birthday. 😉 Thanks so much for getting the review out!

Oh well, 13 dupes, and even if some aren’t rated as well as hers, it’s a no-go! Like Rachel R. said, too neutral-natural.

Hi Christine, I almost didn’t buy this but your review was so positive that I took the plunge and think it’s her best (I have everything except Safari). Also, it is the best neutral palette in my collection. The eye looks I get with it are spectacular and stay on 8 hours reliably with primer. I’m thrilled!
Also, curious whether this palette ranks highest among ND palettes? And what is your highest ranking palette of all time?

I don’t recall the rankings off hand as there have been quite a few palettes released over time, both for ND and in general, unfortunately!!
