NARS True NARS Lip Pencil Set
NARS True NARS Lip Pencil Set

NARS True NARS Lip Pencil Set ($49.00 for 0.21 oz.) includes three full-sized Lip Pencils. Two are part of the permanent range (Yu and Luxembourg) and one is limited edition (Provocative Red). I didn’t expect this to sell out online, but it actually has–you may still be able to find it at a Nordstrom near you (it is exclusive to them, at least in the states). The set includes a mini sharpener that fits these pencils, too (which means they aren’t twist-ups–probably the formula’s biggest downfall!). It’s a nice set, though I really wish the container it is packaged in didn’t have such specific slots (to hold the pencils in place), as it is rather bulky and can’t really be reused as a result.

Yu is described as a “shocking pink.” It’s a bright, fuchsia pink with cool undertones and a soft sheen. It had rich, opaque coverage that glided on easily without tugging and lasted five to six hours. It is very slightly hydrating, but if you have very dry lips, it may not be enough hydration for you. Maybelline Faint for Fuchsia (P, $7.99) is darker. Tom Ford Beauty Electric Pink (15) (P, $50.00) is more muted. MAC Flat Out Fabulous (P, $16.00) is darker, glossier. Guerlain Fluo Stiletto (662) (LE, $37.00) is darker, more muted, less glossy. Tom Ford Beauty Pablo (LE, $32.00) is darker, more muted. Tom Ford Beauty Jack (LE, $32.00) is brighter. MAC Ultramarine Pink (LE, $30.00) is lighter, brighter, darker. Kat Von D Sexer (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, more muted. MAC Dear Diary (LE, $18.00) is cooler. Urban Decay Anarchy (P, $22.00) is darker, more pigmented, more shimmery. Maybelline Electric Fuchsia (LE, $7.49) is cooler. Maybelline Hot Plum (P, $7.49) is darker. NARS Full Frontal (LE, $26.00) is more muted, cooler, lower quality, brighter, lighter. Ardency Inn Twist (P, $25.00) is darker. Bite Beauty Violet (P, $24.00) is cooler. Luxembourg is described as a “vivid watermelon.” It’s a brightened, pinky-red with cool undertones and a satin finish. The texture is lightweight, comfortable to wear, and lasts five to six hours while leaving behind a stain. It’s not drying, but it’s not hydrating either. It had mostly opaque color coverage. Colour Pop Creeper (P, $6.00) is less shimmery, less glossy. MAC Victoriana (LE, $16.00) is darker, less glossy. MAC Damn Glamorous (LE, $16.00) is less glossy. Too Faced Melted Ruby (P, $21.00) is darker, cooler, less glossy. Chanel Rouge Byzantin (LE, $34.00) is darker, more pigmented. Dior Marilyn (LE, $36.00) is darker. Guerlain Calligraphy #5 (LE, ) is darker. MAC Love Goddess (LE, $16.00) is more pigmented, glossier, darker, cooler. Urban Decay Catfight (P, $22.00) is more pigmented, glossier, cooler. MAC Relentlessly Red (P, $16.00) is less pigmented, lighter, glossier. Dior Minuit (LE, $36.00) is darker, less glossy, more shimmery, glossier. MAC Prepare for Pleasure (LE, $16.00) is cooler, less glossy, less pigmented, warmer. MAC Glam (DC, $16.00) is brighter, warmer, glossier, lighter. Chanel La Precieuse (317) (LE, $34.00) is cooler, less glossy, less pigmented, warmer. MAC Red Necessity (LE, $20.00) is darker, less glossy, less pigmented. First 15 dupes listed, see even more: View dupes side-by-side for comparisons here.

Provocative Red is described as a “fuchsia rose.” It’s a muted, medium-dark reddish-plum with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that covered the lips with even color. The texture wasn’t too stiff or too creamy, so you still retained a very flat, matte finish but was fairly easy to apply without skipping. It wore for six hours but was a little drying over time. Burberry Redwood (304) (P, $30.00) is warmer, glossier. Colour Pop Tulle (P, $6.00) is darker, more muted. View dupes side-by-side for comparisons here.

gutted! I’d love the products anyway because I love the lip pencils (although wished they were all mattes) but why bring out gorgeous packaging for them to be un-reusable!? Also totally looking forward to christmas sets now =D

These aren’t my colors, but I bought a set last Christmas and love them! They are so pigmented and creamy, easy to apply. Can’t wait for more sets

This. Is gorgeous. I skipped it because I have so many lip pencils I don’t tend to use already.I own Yu and it really is an awesome color. I wish Provocative Red was permanent . I like the muted – almost smooth look. They need to bring that to the line! I’d totally mess with sharpening then!:)

A hard skip. I already have too many dupes for the first two shades, Yu and Luxembourg. But I am in love with Provocative Red! That shade is so beautiful, it would be wonderful to see it be made permanent. Or to find a really dead-on dupe.

These shades are gorgeous, especially the Luxembourg! The pigmentation of the Red one seems to be a bit disappointing though! I know it’s matte finish not satin like the two others but still I was expecting it to look different.

If this should become available here, I’d buy it. Gorgeous colours. If it doesn’t come here, I think I might have to buy Luxembourg. A gorgeous colour!

I love the looks of this set, but I don’t need it. It’s nice they put in a couple different finishes, and the colors are just gorgeous.

Provocative Red doesn’t look all that provocative to me, but it sure is an interesting color! I’d like to see similar colors more often. (Please, hear my cry, o! makeup company overlords)

I looooooove this set. Yu and Luxembourg are in my wishlist for sure, although I have some dupes for both. But I love the formula of this lip pencils so I’ll try to get this set.

When I saw this I was ready to break my Nordstrom no-buy but as its sold out online, guess that’s not happening (I can only order online). Love the colours that are included.

I started to order this set just for case and Yu but I ended up passing and I’m glad I did. I wasn’t in love with either of the reds honestly and the case turned our to be a bust. Ahh well. Money saved!
