Ignited

NARS Ignited NARSissist Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.48 oz.) is a new, limited edition pink-themed palette with a mix of mattes, shimmers, and more sparkly/glittery shades. The matte shades are from the brand’s permanent range with the updated formula, while most of the shimmer/glitter eyeshadows are new/exclusive to the palette. The “glitter shades can be applied dry or with a dampened brush for stronger intensity,” with the latter being pretty necessary to utilize the palette to the fullest and have the least trouble with fallout/application. If you want to use all of your eyeshadows dry and have it be a fuss-free experience, skip this one. For those who like their pops of sparkle and regularly use an adhesive spray or tacky base, you should have better luck with this palette.

Hammamet I

Hammamet I is a soft, peachy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was good with a soft, smooth consistency that was easy to apply and work with on my skin. It lasted nicely for eight hours on me before fading slightly.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.04 oz. - $475.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "rich, high-impact color" that is "lightweight" and has "increased blendability." Like most larger ranges, there are winners and losers, and some of how they perform can be related to the type of finish. The mattes are soft, slightly dusty in the pans (or not at all) with medium to opaque, often buildable, color coverage. The satin and metallics tend to be smoother, more blendable, and more pigmented with less effort; NARS does the these lower shimmer finishes particularly well, which just looks "melted" on the skin as they lay down so smoothly and have a great shine.

Most shades applied better on my lid than swatched on my arm, which has been something seen across NARS' eyeshadows for years and didn't change with the recent update to their powder eyeshadow formula. On average, they lasted between seven and nine hours on me without primer. They did apply well over primer and stayed on well for 14 hours with minimal fading.

Worth noting: the updated formula and packaging resulted in a product decrease from 0.07 oz. per pan to 0.04 oz. The single eyeshadows received a more noticeable price drop (from $24 to $19) but the duo eyeshadows could be priced better (from $36 to $35).

St-Paul-de-Vence I

St-Paul-de-Vence I is a peachy orange with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had excellent color coverage that applied well to bare skin, and it had a very smooth finish after a few minutes on the lid, which made it stand out. The texture was soft, smooth, and easy to work with. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Light Up

Light Up is a pale, golden beige with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had semi-sheer coverage applied dry with more opaque coverage achieved with a dampened application. The eyeshadow was easier to work with and to apply to bare skin used wet, which wasn’t a total surprise, but it was manageable with a dry brush, especially if one wanted a more medium-coverage application (like using it to highlight underneath the brow bone or the inner tearduct). It stayed on well for seven hours applied dry and eight hours applied damp.

Formula Overview

$22.00/0.04 oz. - $550.00 Per Ounce

The formula "can be applied dry or with a dampened brush for stronger intensity." It is a very glittery formula, and naturally, it performed significantly better when used with a dampened brush or an adhesive base.

Applied dry, they were typically sheer to semi-sheer with light to moderate fallout when blended out on my lid. They lasted between five and seven hours with light to moderate fallout. Applied wet, they were typically semi-opaque to opaque with minimal fallout when blended out and minimal to slight fallout during wear (about eight hours).

The consistency was soft, slightly drier/chunkier, but they the base colors were blendable and easy enough to use. I did find that they applied decently over primer when applied dry compared to on bare skin.

Atomic

Atomic is a light, peachy pink with warm undertones and a sparkling, glittery finish. When I applied it dry, it appeared warmer and more of a true-peach, whereas dampened application yielded a brighter, lighter, and pinker color overall. The texture was soft to the touch but felt more loosely-pressed and was more prone to fallout when used dry on the lid. It had semi-sheer, somewhat buildable pigmentation used dry and opaque coverage that adhered more evenly and sat better on my lid when used with a dampened brush. It lasted for six hours dry (with fallout) and eight hours wet.

Sophia is a muted, medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was a smidgen powdery in the pan, but it applied evenly without sheering out too readily, and I had no trouble blending out the edges. It had rich color coverage that wore well for eight hours on me.

In Heat

In Heat is a soft, rosy mauve with warmer undertones and a lot of lighter pink and silver sparkle and micro-glitter. This was one of the more glitter-packed shades in the palette, so there was some fallout when I used it dry on my lid, though it seemed to build up and could be manageable on more normal-to-oily lids (if you’re drier, a primer or adhesive spray is going to be your best bet). The texture was soft to the touch with a dryness, likely present due to how it didn’t feel as firmly pressed/bound together compared to a typical shimmer eyeshadow. It lasted for seven hours with fallout used dry and closer to eight hours with minimal fallout when used with a dampened brush.

Ignition is a soft, pinky-plum with warmer undertones and cooler pink pearl and larger sparkle. It had medium to semi-opaque pigmentation that applied well with a dry brush, as long as I pressed and patted it on my lid first, and then buffed and fluffed along the edges. With a dampened brush, it had rich coverage that adhered and went on even better. It wore well for eight hours both wet and dry, though the dampened application had minimal fallout over time.

Fuse

Fuse is a light-medium, plummy brown base with flecks of lavender, violet, and gold sparkle. It was rather glittery, so there was fallout when I tried using it with a dry brush, though the pigmentation was more medium to semi-opaque. If I used it with a dampened brush, it was more opaque and had a smoother, more even application without fallout. Pointe Noire

Pointe Noir is a deep, pinky-plum with subtle, warm undertones and gold and plum sparkle. This shade is in the permanent range (Hardwired Eyeshadow), though I found the version in the palette to pull warmer/redder and had a smoother, denser consistency (didn’t feel like the other glittery/sparkly shades). It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer when applied dry, though a wet application would help it appear a bit more metallic but wasn’t necessary for opacity. It stayed on well for eight hours with very little fallout over time.

This is a really pretty pink themed palette, typical of NARS to have some shades stellar and others a bit ordinary, but nonetheless lovely. I think it offers more variety than UD Cherry with a range of shades from light to darker.
Beautiful eye look Christine.

I feel like I don’t need this thanks to the Huda New Nudes. The more brown shades would have been helpful in the Huda but I’ve got about a zillion browns already. That new gorgeous metallic formula (pressed pearl?) from Huda is going to force other brands to step up.

I didn’t pick up the Huda New Nudes palette so this would be a definite possibility for me since I love this colour story and the addition of the browner/beige shades, small size, makes it more convenient for travelling. I was surprised that there were not more close dupes for the Huda palette within these shades. Also surprised that many only had 85% to 90% dupes which makes it more appealing to me. Since I use a tacky base everyday I think this would work. I really want to see in store first though so will have to make a point of checking it out when I am in Spokane next weekend.

While I do see this as a very beautiful looking palette, and I’m not averse to using glitter glue or a brush dampened with MAC Fix+, I already have Huda New Nudes. That palette is the *almost* perfect pink palette for my needs and taste. To deepen up the crease even more, then I simply pull out PMGL Bronze Seduction or Lorac Unzipped. But that does not take away from the beauty within Ignited Palette at all!

Hi Christine 😉
Beautiful looks 😉 It’s a beautiful palette but I’ll pass on it, I have a dupe for every shade 😉

I have this because I love Nars palettes! The glitter takes me outside of my comfort zone.
Christine, how do you think it compares to the Wanted palette? There is some debate this is similar, but I personally think they are different…

I have a $25 Sephora gift card and I can get another 20% off through December 12, so I’ve been trying to figure out what to buy. It’s really difficult because I seem to have everything! This palette is one of the products I’ve been considering, but seeing it here changed my mind. It’s very pretty and I love the eye look, but I don’t think these shades will look as good on me. So now now I’m down to deciding between Huda New Nudes, ABH Sultry, and Guerlain Meteorites Pearls 02 (are they worth it?).

Oh, a pink-themed palette! As a lady with cool undertones who wears a ton of pink, you’ve got my interest. BUT ALAS, a soft, peachy brown with WARM undertones (Hammamet I), a peachy orange with WARM undertones (St-Paul-de-Vence I), a pale golden beige with WARM undertones (Light Up), a light peachy pink with WARM undertones (Atomic), a muted, medium brown with WARM undertones (Sophia), a light-medium coral with strong WARM orange undertones and a slightly cooler pinker sheen (Supernova), a soft rosy mauve with WARMER undertones (In Heat), a soft pinky-plum with WARMER undertones (Ignition), a medium brown with WARM undertones (Noumea), a medium-dark red with WARMER undertones (Fired Up), a light-medium plummy brown base with flecks of lavender, violet, and gold sparkle (Fuse), and a deep, pinky-plum with subtle, WARM undertones and gold and plum sparkle (Pointe Noir) is a WARM pink-themed (?) palette for WARMER undertones. Ho-hum! Moving along . . .

Picked this up! 🙂

Looking at the ratings, it seems pretty consistent with the new NARS formula. When arranged in columns up and down, they go mattes all A-‘s, shimmers A- to A, then the 6 glitters / Hardwireds on the right are in the B range except for Point Noir that scored an A-.

I think whether this palette works or doesn’t will depend on personal preferences and what’s already in your stash. To me it’s a nice size (not too large, not too small), has nice packaging and form factor. I love pinks and purples and I don’t have much glitter shadows at all so this distribution of color and finishes is welcome and augments my collection. Also perfect timing for holiday parties and outings. Plus I’ve been eyeing Point Noir since they came out with the new singles — glad I waited since it is included here! 😛

Mimi Avatar

Agreed! Definitely room for improvement in the Hardwireds, though I must confess on a day to day basis they are the least utilized in my stash (though fun for a night out!). I will be referring to your reviews and notes for application of the individual shades when I take this palette out for a spin!

Oh, I love your Dupes feature! I have UD Solstice and Nabla Dreamy, so the only color I like and don’t have is Pointe Noire. I guess I don’t need this, but I still admire your makeup and enjoy looking at those swatches.

I am leaning towards getting this palette but want to see it in person. I didn’t pick up the Huda New Nudes palette and in some respects I like this better. I like the overall smaller packaging, the addition of shades that would work as transition for me and of course, all the sparkle. Since I use a tacky base every day I don’t think the formula would be a problem for me. I am headed to Spokane next weekend so plan to check it out then.
