Melt Cosmetics Rust Eyeshadow Stack Review, Photos, Swatches
Rust
Melt Cosmetics Rust Eyeshadow Stack (x5) ($58.00 for 0.50 oz.) contains five, warm-toned neutral shades–from beige to rich brown–all with matte finishes. Two of the eyeshadows were pigmented and easy to apply, but three shades left something to be desired due to softer, overly powdery finishes that made the eyeshadows harder to apply, weaker in pigmentation, and more prone to fallout/sheering out.

Classic
Classic is a soft, muted yellow with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium, buildable coverage with a moderately powdery texture that had a fair amount of excess that kicked up in the pan, which also led to fallout during application. The eyeshadow was blendable, though, and for someone who does not mind sheerer eyeshadows in this type of hue, it may not be a problem. This shade wore well for seven hours on me before fading.

Antique
Antique is a soft, peachy-orange with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation with a very powdery, almost dry, texture that was harder to work with. I was able to work with it best over an eyeshadow primer, which helped more of the powder adhere, and build up to semi-opaque coverage with three layers. There was a fair amount of fallout during application, especially as I tried to build up the coverage. It blended out nicely, though, and lasted for seven hours on me.

Rubbish
Rubbish is a soft, caramel brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. The texture was smooth, velvety, and blendable with a touch of powderiness in the pan, but it was very easy to apply and use on the lid and didn’t have fallout. It had opaque color coverage that wore well for eight hours on me.

Rust
Rust is a medium brown with subtle, warm reddish undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a soft, smooth texture that wasn’t too firmly nor too softly pressed in the pan. The eyeshadow was easy to apply and to blend out without worrying about fallout or the color sheering out too easily. On me, it stayed on beautifully for eight hours before there were signs of fading.

Rott
Rott is a dark brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was slightly firmer in the pan, which meant less fallout compared to other shades in the stack, and it was easier to build up as a result. It took slightly more effort to blend out when used more heavily, but it wasn’t a challenge to work with. This shade lasted for eight hours on me before I noticed any fading.

This is one of the melt products that I own. I can honestly say I havent been too impressed with the quality. The’yre very powdery. Still on the hunt for a neutral palette for dark skin.
Juvia’s place recently released a neutral palette (the Warrior palette I think). They are known to be very pigmentated and wonderful on dark skintone 🙂
My search for the perfect peach led me to Antique as a single. It shattered while I was deporting it and while I easily repressed it, it sits there unused day after day. Still searching.
Agree. They are on the dry side. And messy and not user-friendly
This is a really good range of rusty inspired shades and it’s a shame that the quality is not better.
Rubbish??? Well, that made me chuckle (maybe they’re just being honest, as with the e/s called “Deception” that you reviewed last week and which was, in fact, quite deceiving, though I guess the A rating means “Rubbish” isn’t rubbish).
I personally love mine and all the shades work so well together, and it’s just to create a look alone with just this in your collection.
I’m honestly relieved that Antique is an outlier in Melt’s shadow range. I bought it as a single and passionately dislike it because of the pigmentation. I also bought Rubbish as a single, which I adore for the color, but the quality is only a B to me because it has to be built up so much. I picked up the Gunmetal Stack in the same haul, but that was a wash because I loved the pictures people were posting but IRL I never wear that style of makeup myself lol. But yeah, Antique scared me away from making purchases from them in the future. I won’t be so scared anymore. 🙂
