Maybelline Rich Ruby ColorSensational Creamy Matte Lip Color
Maybelline Rich Ruby ColorSensational Creamy Matte Lip Color ($7.99 for 0.15 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium-dark red with cool, blue undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation that covered the lips for the most part, but there is a very light translucency to it overall. The texture was lightweight, velvety, and smooth and applied evenly to the lips. It was really comfortable to wear and wasn’t drying over the six hours it lasted, and I didn’t experience feathering or bleeding either. Clinique Cherry Pop (P, $18.00) is lighter. NARS Deadly Catch (LE, $26.00) is warmer. MAC Frank-n-furter (LE, $16.00) is darker. Kat Von D Hexagram (P, $21.00) is lighter, less glossy. Chanel La Desiree (327) (LE, $34.00) is darker. NYX Chic Red (P, $4.00) is darker. MAC Ronnie Red (LE, $16.00) is brighter. MAC MAC Red (P, $16.00) is cooler. ColourPop Creeper (P, $6.00) is lighter, less glossy. MAC Charlotte (LE, $16.00) is lighter, cooler. Besame Besame Red 1920 (P, $22.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer. Besame American Beauty 1945 (P, $22.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. MAC Stunner (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer. Anastasia American Doll (P, $20.00) is lighter, less glossy. MAC Kinky (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer. Maybelline All Fired Up ColorSensational Creamy Matte Lip Color ($7.99 for 0.15 oz.) is a brightened,pinky-red with warmer undertones and a satin finish. It had fairly opaque coverage that went on evenly and smoothly, while it lasted for six and a half hours with a light stain left behind. It was slightly drying after four hours of wear, though. The texture seemed a bit thinner compared to other shades I’ve tried. ColourPop Toucan (P, $5.00) is cooler. Estee Lauder Jealous (P, $30.00) is cooler. Chanel La Petillante (49) (LE, $34.00) is warmer. MAC All Fired Up (P, $16.00) is cooler, less glossy. ColourPop Mars (P, $6.00) is warmer, glossier. Maybelline Pink Sugar ColorSensational Creamy Matte Lip Color ($7.99 for 0.15 oz.) is a brightened, light-medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a semi-matte finish. The texture had a velvety feel to it with light slip but heavier, full coverage. It seemed thicker than other shades in the range, and it emphasized lip lines slightly but didn’t pull into them too much while worn. The color lasted for four and a half hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. ColourPop 1st Base (P, $6.00) is darker, more muted, warmer, less glossy. ColourPop Fetch (P, $5.00) is darker. Bite Beauty Sweety (LE, $24.00) is darker, warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Formula Summary: It is supposed to “deliver a burst of bold lip color” with a “creamy texture” and a matte finish. In general, the formula has good color payoff with a velvety, creamy consistency that covers evenly and most shades seem to make lips appear smoother but some shades were prone to pulling into lip lines as the color wore away. The big thing about these is that they have a mostly matte finish and are more comfortable to wear than many matte formulas due to the velvety feel (almost like a silicone primer, but not quite as heavy and not clingy). The formula was neither drying nor hydrating on me. It had a sweet, plastic-like scent but no taste.

All Fired Up looks really good on you!
Thank you!
Pink sugar looks a lot like Viva Glam Nicki 1!
Awesome!
I’ve been really picky about lipsticks lately, because I just have too many, but All Fired Up has me seriously twitching to go on a drugstore run.
It’s really nice! Great summer shade!
Is it just me or does All Fired Up look extremely similar to MAC’s All Fired Up? They’re described differently, but in pictures they’re definitely similar. I’ve never seen a dupe that not only looks like the higher end product but shares the same name! Happy coincidence or intentional move?
They are similar!
How can they get away with having All Fired Up not only match MAC in name, but also colour!
I don’t think it’s protected!
Maybe likelihood of confusion under trademark, hehe. All in the same release… “All Fired Up” having the same name and color, “Pink Sugar” looking like Viva Glam Nicki, “Rich Ruby” also seeming to toy with the name Ruby Woo.
All of these are pretty, but Rich Ruby is gorgeous! And I like how these are dupes for much more expensive lippies. With BOGO 50% off, you can get 2 for $6 each. Crazy!
Ooh, very nice!
All so pretttttty Christine!! Thanks for the great swatches!
My pleasure!
Thud. These are drop-dead gorgeous on you. Honestly, I think of all the matte lipsticks I’ve seen over the last year, these from Maybelline (Maybelline!) look the best. Thanks for the review, swatches, & photos.
They did a nice job balancing finish and comfort!
I really love all of these colors! For the price, these are good lipsticks. However, I’ve found that after wearing them for about a week, my lips become incredibly dry and flaky!
Oh no! That sucks 🙁
That’s a very flattering red.
It really is!
Sometimes I think about just throwing in the towel and saying I’m only gonna wear red lipstick forevermore. It’s my faaaaaavorite.
Both Rich Ruby and All Fired Up look like worthy additions to my wardrobe of reds… not super unique, but lovely finishes.
And there are SO MANY reds to choose from!
As Sarah said, Pink Sugar really DOES look a whole lot like MAC VG Nicki 1 ! Which I missed out on getting, so I may just have to get this one! As for All Fired Up, you already know what I think about them basically stealing the name and shade together, BUT I love Maybelline’s iteration of it so much more, because its not Retro Matte level drying. So maybe…..
That is true! It is more comfortable to wear 😀
To me All Fired Up does resemble MAC All Fired Up but also Relentlessly Red also? What are your thoughts Christine? I have Pink Sugar and I LOVE it. It’s hard to find a bright warm toned pink at the drug store in a formula I like. Wet N Wild Pinkerbell is another good one and some say a dupe for the MAC Nicki lipstick!
They are similar! 🙂
I like all three! Though the first two are more my speed!
Woohoo!
All Fired Up looks beautiful! I really like Pink Sugar too. It’s not as pale as I thought it would be
It has some brightness!
Maybelline did such a great job with these. I love all three shades.
Agreed!
They all look so good. I do want them all.
They are turning out to be pretty nice!
Love that Rich Ruby colour – it is divine. I hope it comes to Australia. It looks amazing on you Christine too.
Me too! Fingers crossed for you, Genevieve!
All Fired Up is my favorite of these three. So pretty! I might be able to pull it off. If I see it when I’m out, I’ll probably pick it up. It’s so rare for me to actually find things in stores here as all the nice things sell out fast. =(
I hope you can find them! As far as I know, these are new and permanent so eventually, you should see ’em!
I got lucky and ran into the rest of the new shades at Ulta this week. I was going to buy them all anyway and found out they were on sale for bogo half when I got to the register. So , I paid less than $5 each. I’m glad I did. I love all of these on you! This week, like I mentioned in free for haul, I have barely worn makeup( beyond a lot of under eye concealer, lol). I can’t wait to bust these out. So nice to find an affordable product that hits the spot without breaking the bank!
NICE! $5 is a steal!
