Maybelline Hot Lava, Copper Rose, Molten Bronze Matte Metallics Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Hot Lava
Maybelline Hot Lava Color Sensational Matte Metallics Lipstick ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is vibrant, medium orange-red with strong, warm undertones and fine red pearl. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied decently, but it could have distributed color more evenly. The lipstick felt smooth, lightweight, and had a more waxy consistency that was really comfortable to apply but made it harder to build up coverage. The color wore well for five hours on me and was non-drying.
The Matte Metallics is the newest finish in the Color Sensational range, and it’s supposed to pigmented, metallic, matte, and have a “comfortable creamy” feel. The formula had a smooth, waxy feel to me–it glided across the lips with ease but was thinner and did not lay down as much color in a single layer. Most of the shades were semi-opaque with some being slightly sheerer or more pigmented, but they were typically buildable. The lipstick was comfortable to wear and lasted between three and five hours on me with some shades being lightly hydrating and others were non-drying. There was a subtle, sweet scent but was significantly subdued compared to other Maybelline lip products.

Copper Rose
Maybelline Copper Rose Color Sensational Matte Metallics Lipstick ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a deep berry with subtle, cool undertones and fine red and violet pearl. It had medium color coverage that was buildable to semi-opaque pigmentation. The consistency was smooth, waxy, and glided on without skipping. While I really enjoyed the color, I wish it had applied more evenly and sat less in my deeper lip lines; I think this one would be workable with lip primer or a coordinating lip liner underneath it. It felt lightweight and thin on the lips but not clingy, so it wasn’t drying while I wore it. This shade lasted for four and a half hours on me.

Molten Bronze
Maybelline Molten Bronze Color Sensational Matte Metallics Lipstick ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a deep, reddish plum with subtle, warm undertones and a duochrome finish that shifted from gold to green. It had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff that applied fairly evenly. The texture was lightweight, thin but not clingy, and felt waxy, so while it glided on with ease, it took a bit more layering to build up the coverage. I had a bit of color that pulled into my lip lines over the five hours the lipstick wore for. The formula felt lightly hydrating overall.

Okay, I’m definitely going to get Hot Lava. It looks really nice and reviewed well.
I hope you enjoy it, Aj!
I had my eye on Hot Lava, but since I have the Guerlain Red Bowtie dupe, I’m set. Thank you yet again for your dupe lists!
Always my pleasure, AB! xo
I would probably never wear it because I don’t wear bold lips, but I LOVE the color of Molten Bronze! I’m a sucker for anything that shifts colors (duochrome, iridescent, or holo), so anything along those lines is a draw for me. Now, if only I could locate it somewhere…
Do you have anything like that in eyeshadow form? You might be able to mix your eyeshadow with a little balm or pat it over a deeper lipstick to get the same effect!
Two out of three I was looking forward to are here, so I’m a happy camper!
I love metalic reds! They seem so lush and beautiful imo!
Woohoo! 😀
Copper Rose looks very pretty, and the price is right! And wow, Molten Bronze has a unique duo chrome finish. Uh oh, BOGO 50% off???
Molten Bronze is really cool!
Great photos! 🙂
Thank you!
Molten Bronze looks really cool, I’m going to keep my eyes out for it!
Doesn’t it? Very fun shade to wear.
I bet it will also be fun to coordinate an eye shadow look with 🙂
Copper Rose is lovely. I also like Hot Lava but I have probably 15 red lippies I rarely use so I can’t justify buying it! I also have KVD Adora which looks very similar.
Adora is definitely in the running!
Gorgeous shades! With Molton Bronze taking the lead over the other two. Now THAT is one very cool looking shade because of the green duochrome shift! Although I’m asking myself whether I should jump on it or leave it be, as I have TF Seadragon and also MAC I Get So OCC? Decisions….?
Molten Bronze is sooo pretty on!! I feel like it’s the greener sister of Seadragon..
I love that bronze one. I really like how subtle green looks on my lips. I hadn’t thought I would like that color but after seeing your review, I’m going to get one the next time I see it!
Yay! I hope you can find it 🙂
All very pretty! I really like these. I’m glad they aren’t drying!
Me too!
I wouldn’t call these truly metallic but they are all very pretty frost/shimmer shades for sure. 😉
I don’t know if it’s just that a lot of these are running darker, so the pigment is more noticeable than the shimmer, but they are definitely not OTT.
They are all pretty. It is a pity that Copper Rose wasn’t quite the just put on and go colour that the others seem to be, but if a primer is what’s needed I’d use a primer for that gorgeous colour. For me all three are clear winners tbh.
Lip liner or primer would do the trick!
Wow – these lipsticks are beautiful, especially Molten Bronze. And I like the fact that it rated just as well as the very expensive Tom Ford lippies of similar colour. Can’t wait for these to be released in Aus.
I’m excited for them to launch in Australia for you!
