Spotlight

Marc Jacobs Beauty Spotlight Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator ($42.00 for 0.49 oz.) is a silvery beige with a hint of warmth and a pearly, dewy sheen. (It’s described as having a “balanced ratio of pearly gold and silver pigments,” which didn’t make me feel so nutty about thinking of it as a “silvery beige.”) It had sheer to semi-sheer coverage, which was somewhat buildable and amenable to layering, though it is touted as a “sheer” product, so the coverage level was as marketed.

It’s a cream-based highlighting formula that will work best for someone who prefers a glowing finish with soft pearl–enough of an effect that I wouldn’t say it was subtle (though it could be, if applied with a lighter hand or patted over with a dampened sponge) but it wasn’t metallic, frosted, or prone to emphasizing my skin’s natural texture. The formula dried down and didn’t remain wet or tacky to the touch, but it still retained a more skin-like glow that remained in force for a solid eight and a half hours. It applied well over bare skin or over liquid foundation (without disturbing or breaking it down more readily).

Christine, ‘silvery beige’ as a descriptor makes so much sense to me. It’s probably an icy silver taupe, one of my favorite colors. If I’m right, it’s going to look a lot like Chanel’s Camelia de Plumes highlighter (which was in a powder formula, obviously). Regardless, it sure is beautiful.

I wouldn’t call it a taupe at all. It’s more like a vanilla with gold and silver shimmer in. Depending on your skintone, yours may register more of the silver or gold shimmer. This pulls MUCH more gold on me than it does on Christine.

Whoa! I have this and I love it but it’s crazy how different it looks on me. On me (I am fairer) it pulls much more yellow, closer to Nars Albatross though with some silver mixed through.

Hi Christine, I was wondering if you applied this straight from the packaging or warmed it on your finger then applied? What’s your preferred method of applying cream sticks like these? I don’t want to risk disturbing my concealer/ foundation. Thanks for your review & input!

Hi Karen!

I prefer to apply using fingertips, as I find that gives me the most even coverage and easiest blending with the least effort 🙂 You can definitely apply from the tube, but you’ll inevitably get base on it if your base isn’t 100% transfer-proof, so for me, it makes more sense to apply separately.

Tarababyz will probably show it in a haul unless she likes only powders. She’s got pink undertones and usually always points out whether a product leans pink or yellow. I’m assuming you don’t have a store near you that carries it. Stephanie Nicole does the same thing and she has pink undertones.

I have it and am very fair with cool undertones (MAC NW10) and it pulls a little more golden on me which I’m not a huge fan of because warmer colors make me look sick. I really wish this was more cool toned or they made another in a silver/white shade. Other than color, it’s beautiful, work appropriate with a light hand and lasts forever!! Highly recommend if the color works for you.

Have added it to my list of things to check out in Sephora. It’s a beautiful highlighter.

Thanks to those who own it for sharing your observations, too.
