Marc Jacobs Beauty Cabaret (146) Lovemarc Lip Gel Review, Photos, Swatches
Marc Jacobs Beauty Cabaret (146) Lovemarc Lip Gel
Marc Jacobs Beauty Cabaret (146) Lovemarc Lip Gel ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a slightly muted, cool-toned, medium-dark berry with a luminous sheen. MAC Primrose (LE, $16.00) is sheerer, glossier. Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is darker. YSL Exquisite Plum (22) (P, $34.00) is brighter. Givenchy Violine Precieux (312) (LE, $36.00) is lighter, warmer. Illamasqua Shard (P, $24.00) is more matte. NARS Afghan Red (P, $26.00) is similar. MAC Red Dwarf (LE, $18.00) is a touch lighter. Guerlain Bee (LE, $51.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
This shade was originally part of a 1,000 point set from Sephora, but it is now available individually for VIB Rouges as a limited edition, only-only shade. I hope that they’ll eventually release it to everyone, but I don’t have any inside information regarding this shade. The texture was lightly creamy but had less slip than other Lovemarc Lip Gels–it didn’t tug, but it hugged the lips more, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing with a deeper shade like Cabaret. Howeever, it had less of that “gel” feel and felt more like a traditional lipstick. It had rich, opaque color coverage that went on evenly and made lips look smoother and slightly fuller. It wore well for almost six hours on me and left a lingering stain behind. The formula was lightly hydrating on me but less so than other shades in the range.

The color is so winter- worthy! Thankfully i have afghan red which is just as gorgeous as this one! Looks good on you christine 🙂
Phew! Money saved! 🙂
I was expecting this to be darker and more vivid. Want it less now, haha.
Maybe one of the dupes will be more in line of what you were looking for! 🙂
Another dupe for this, in my opinion, would be 766 Rose Harpers from Dior! 😀
The color looks incredible on you!
Thank you, Fiona!
That’s a beautiful shade! I might just try this. I haven’t been crazy about the MJ lipstick formula, felt like it had too much slip so this is very exciting! Thanks for the review!
No problem! Definitely less slip than the usual MJB to me but not dry or anything like that, so you may like it more!
A very autumn color I think but looks beautiful on you Christine!
Thank you, Divya! I’m hoping it’s a fall shade that’ll get released in full closer to August.
Oh hello!!! What a color…this looks fantastic on you Christine!
Thank you, Dani!
Very pretty! I got this shade too and really like it. A little dark for me but I can make it work. Perfect on you!
So glad you’re loving it, too, Megan!
I really like this shade on my skin tone (super pale/cool) and I’m glad they made it available for purchase!
Me too! I hope they extend it to everyone soon.
I am very happy I grabbed this through the points promo. It really is a gorgeous lipstick and since it doesn’t seem to run super cool in tone, I’m guessing this will work on many skintones.
Me too! By no means is the points program at Sephora great, but at least the set included full-sized products I may have otherwise bought – I’ve been sitting on my points for years. LOL, I’m more worried Sephora is going to be put an expiration date on ’em.
It has to be a true chameleon. Compared to Christine, on me, subtract the pink you see in the close-up + skew more violet. It’s cool on me. And on my young fellow M/U addict coworker {Afro-American/Caribbean/Anglo background lightish warm/tan/ leans slightly olive in some lights, MJB-C looks kind of like Bite Rhubarb, but browner, only moist…} Maybe lip coloring has more impact than you’d think, as it does not seem at all sheer.
I drop dead love it, but am wrestling with the tube a lot. Both the tubes I had twist up independently and kind of pop up when i close it. Jammed both of them. Will use Swoon tool to resculpt + get excess out of cap. And this one is the best use of points ever! Both great colors, mildly original, and 3-4 season, IMO. Hope you’re feeling well.
I don’t know what it is (maybe the finish/texture), but I really like the way this looks on the lips.
It’s very flattering on the natural lip!
I have a suspicion there is a dupe in the love marc lip gel series that’s available from the Marc Jacobs beauty website. Thanks for the post. Sephora didn’t really describe the shade so I was wondering about the shade
I have Seduce Me, which is a berry shade from the range, but it’s not quite a dupe. Not sure about any other potential berry-hued shades, though!
WOW that is STUNNING!!!! Looks so rich and creamy and so pretty! Just had my rouge status extended to the end of 2015 so I might have to pick this up.
It’s a nice color! Have you tried this formula before, Michelle?
It is a gorgeous colour!
Very much so!
This looks a lot nicer than I remember from swatching it in-store. Reconsidering now, hmm.
I think applied it looks a bit less like other berry shades than when swatched, so maybe that’s it!
I absolutely love this color. I may need to invest in Afghan Red because I’m not a rougue (as far as I know I signed up like 10 years ago)
Afghan Red is a nice alternative!
I got this as part of the 1000 point reward (happy to save some $$$ for other purchases, LOL)…I love this shade and even though it’s deeper and Fall/Winterish…I still wear it now, LOL!! Hubby loves it and says its ‘SEXY’!!
Yup, me too! 🙂
Happy to hear you AND your hubby love it!
This is a great fall shade. It looks beautiful on you!
Thank you, Fancie!
**GASP** I NEED THIS.
And now it’s on its way. Thanks, Christine 😉
My pleasure, Celia! 🙂
Hope you get a chance to try, Celia!
This looks gorgeous; Christine, you wear dark colors well! I wish this had more of the gel feel to it — that’s one aspect that I love about these Lovemarc Lip Gels!
Thank you, Carolyn! Me too – it wears nicely and all that, but I love the gel-y texture of the original formula.
It’s really pretty! I have 1000 points, I just saw it a day or two ago… Is it no longer available?
I just looked, and under your profile and “Rewards Boutique,” it still shows up as a 1,000 point perk. It says you can “add to basket.” The fine print says it should also show up at checkout so you can add it.
my local S had it in-store as well…. i got the replacement, when the gloss leaked all over the box in the mail order version. I think you can redeem 1000 pts in-store as well as through website. SA did warn me that they had low supply ( ~7, and there were 3 left the next day.)
I bet stores didn’t get TOO much supply, given it is still 1,000 points to drop in one go!
This lipstick is very special. There are very beautiful colors and Beauty Cabaret is one of them my favorites. I love Marc Jacobs cosmetics. This is amazing!
So glad you love it, Ester!
Thanks Christine.
I am powerless to resist this type of shade. Well, unless it’s a formula that I don’t like. I have Guerlain Bee, so I might not need this one, but I’m tempted to get it anyway…
I swear if you have Bee, this isn’t a must, must-have…
I didn’t expect to, but, now that I see this on you, I love this shade. And, I’d totally rock it now, even though it’s more of a shade you’d think of for fall. It looks just perfect on you Christine. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much, Eliz!
Ack! Another gorgeous dark/muted pink! 😀 Love this shade (and I’m currently loving the heck out of my ‘Have We Met?’ MJ lipstick that I got in Dubai) – I hope they make it generally available too!
Also, your earrings remind me of champagne and the chandeliers in fancy old-world European hotels 🙂
Thank you! 🙂 I needed a more neutral pair of earrings for some of the richer shades I wear – something pretty and soft!
That is a lovely shade. I really suits you, Christine.
Sephora here doesn’t have any kind of points or anything. I’ve asked them a lot of times. Almost every other store or chain??? of stores have some kind of points system.
We also don’t have BAck to MAC here.
Anyway, sometimes I just love looking at gorgeous makeup even though I know I can’t get it.
It* really suits you. I hate typos and my fingers seem unable to press the right keys.
Thank you so much, Helene! 🙂
So crazy how retailers’ programs differ from place to place. I wonder if there are any regulations in the country that prohibit it?
Hi, i’m new here and the 2 lip swatch pictures confused me a bit, can you please explain? Thanks ^^
Hi Donna!
One is with direct light, one is indirect light!
How do u compare this to dolce and gabbana dahlia?
Dahlia is warmer!

Definitely one of those times I’m grateful for this site and all the effort you put into swatching and reviewing these products; I just got to 1000 and would never have thought to pick this up because I quite like Sephora’s deluxe minis (the tiny Tarte cheek stain has lasted me well over a month), but I’m so glad I looked up this swatch while this lipstick was being offered as a reward! It’s such a gorgeous colour, and we haven’t even hit fall yet, but I’m already obsessed with it! So thank you for keeping me from missing out on an amazing lipstick! 🙂
Yay! I’m so glad I could help 🙂 Enjoy your reward!
