Marriage Material
Makeup Geek Marriage Material Plush Lip Matte ($12.00 for 0.06 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark plum with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. The texture was mousse-like, airy and lightweight, and while it was quite pigmented, the actual consistency was grainy and seemed poorly mixed (in terms of ingredients). The color appeared “cracked” as the color pulled away from where my lip lines were, even though it did not dry down like a typical liquid lipstick. As the color wore on, I had more significant settling of the color into my lip lines, which made it appear more uneven overall. It lasted for four hours, left a pink stain behind, and my lips felt tight and drier after wearing it (but it did not feel dry while it was on)–almost raw at times.
The formula is supposed to be a “cross between a cream and a mousse” that is “highly pigmented” with a “soft matte” finish. The consistency has an incredibly velvety, creamy feel without being slippery or wet, so it felt very smooth going on the lips and lightweight. I liked the way it felt on the lips for an hour or so of wear, but after testing about half of the range, they did not wear down well with an uneven fade and significant color in lip lines. While traditional liquid lipstick can dry and look “cracked,” I noticed that despite feeling quite forgiving, the finish often was not as lip color settled into and separated away from lip lines. The formula wasn’t designed to dry down to a flat, matte finish, and it does not, so the transfer was similar to that of a traditional, satin-finished tube lipstick for me. On me, the liquid lipsticks have lasted between four and six hours on me. They seem mostly non-drying on but seemed more drying as I wore them, particularly if I wore two in a row, which would leave my lips feeling raw.
Just a heads up, each tube contains a surprisingly small amount of product (0.06 fl. oz.) relative to a lot of popular liquid lipstick formulas (Kat Von D contains 0.22 fl. oz., Anastasia contains 0.11 fl. oz., Smashbox contains 0.13 fl. oz., Stila contains 0.10 fl. oz., MAC contains 0.17 fl. oz.).

Misfit
Makeup Geek Misfit Plush Lip Matte ($12.00 for 0.06 fl. oz.) is a muted, grayed, dark purple with neutral undertones and a satin finish. It had opaque color coverage with a very smooth, velvety consistency that was easily spread across the lips for even color. There was some separation/color in my lip lines initially, and this worsened over time. I was able to press my lips together and smooth some of the color back out but only for the first hour or two, as it wore down to a thinner, more matte finish after that. The color lasted for four and a half hours, left a faint, fuchsia stain, and was drying.

Urbanista
Makeup Geek Urbanista Plush Lip Matte ($12.00 for 0.06 fl. oz.) is a deep, plummy purple with warmer undertones and a natural sheen. The texture was much thinner and more watery; it had a lot more slip and shine, and it did not feel like the majority of the range with respect to consistency. It had smei-opaque, uneven coverage that settled into lip lines. The color lasted for two and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating while worn.

How disappointing.
Agreed!
Yeowtch! After seeing how miniscule of an amount of actual product is contained within each of these, they are hereby ALL skips. 0.06 is FAR too little product at that price. In fact, hi-way robbery!
I do wish the Misfit would have been as wonderful as it looks, but having just today noticed the part about the *quantity* contained, it would be a pass anyhow. Now to get ahold of CP Femme or MAC Deeply Rooted….?
I was surprised at just how little was in them relative to your usual suspects for liquid lipstick.
I didn’t realise till reading this comment how little was in each of these tubes. That’s equivalent to 1.7mls of product, which is ridiculous. That’s the same as TheBalm Meet Matte Hughes minis, and only slightly more than the Stila mini’s (which have 1.5ml or 1.6ml).
How disappointing. The colors are beautiful. 🙁
I know 🙁
Aaaaccck!!!! I ordered Misfit during their big year end sale, will get it next week. Such a unique looking color, hoping it wears better on me
Let me know, Katherine! I tried to look for reviews on the new MUG lip colors but found only a couple, mostly just swatch videos…
I like how Misfit looks but I’ll have to pass on it since drying products on my lips just doesn’t appeal to me. Price point and size are another no for me.
It’s so strange that they do not feel particularly clingy/drying initially but seem to do a number on my lips after wearing all day.
I love the colour of Urbanista, but the name makes me uncomfortable, and I don’t like the rating 🙁 Looks like it’s dupes for me!
I wish there were more dupes for it! Some of these names just make me cringe 🙁
I almost picked up Misfit at the end of year sale. Glad I passed.
Phew!!
Can I just say I HATE the name marriage material? The colors are lovely, but the quality seems very hit or miss too… Thank God for Christine saving us money 🙂
You and me both, Sonya! I was just thinking that Hourglass did a great job naming their GIRL Stylos using more empowering names compared to a lot of the stereotypes used in the MUG ranges.
Wasn’t there a trophy wife too?? Ugh hate those names and I never care about names of makeup except Melted Chihuahua as I know someone I dislike greatly with that dog and I have some odd pleasure wearing that Too Faced Melted Lippie!!
Aw, some disappointing ratings here 🙁 Marriage Material is nice though.
Welp, that’s unfortunate. Urbanista is such a pretty color, too.
Ouch! I love the color of Misfit; if only the performance was better!
